Welcome to the Historic Apache Motel, a Moab landmark and the first hotel / motel ever built in Moab. Built in the mid 50’s for the movie industry and home to John Wayne for months on end. This gem is the last of the good old motels. We invite you to experience a piece of the past. Extremely clean and well maintained, this owner operated motel offers the only experience of its kind in Moab. We are on the National Historic Registry. We have ample trailer parking, UTV friendly, pet friendly with a fenced dog park, hot water dog wash and bike wash and tune-up area.

The Apache Motel is a hit for those seeking a trip down memory lane, offering a unique atmosphere with its nostalgic and colorful retro charm. Guests laud the motel's clean, spacious rooms and commendable amenities like the heated pool and fresh cinnamon rolls at breakfast. Its value shines through with affordable rates and attentive service, including a pet-friendly approach. While most find the rooms comfortable, a few mention a hint of mustiness. Its tranquil yet central location is another perk that guests appreciate.

We loved our stay at the Apache motel in Moab. There are many details at this well-placed gem, that you just don't find elsewhere- like the fire pit (hanging fire pot?) with s'mores at night, the cruiser bikes to take for rides, the pool chairs and picnic area, and .. wait for it- bike and dog wash!
We were delighted to wash our muddy pup in warm water and dry her off right there at the Apache, especially since we could not find another dog wash in town!

We spent a delightful week at the Apache while hiking the Arches/Canyonlands/DHP circuit. This is a classic mid-50's era motel that is conveniently located in a quiet, mostly residential part of town within walking, or cycling, distance to everything in Moab. It has the added charm of being lodgings of choice for John Wayne and the crews that filmed many classic westerns in the area in decades past.

Our room was spotlessly clean with comfortable beds, a small refrigerator and a decent sized bathroom which featured outstanding water pressure to blast off the dirt and sweat accumulated from hiking many miles each day. Several reviews refer to the rooms as "dated/old" but to us, that was part of the charm. If you're looking for modern chain hotel decor and amenities, there are several of those options in Moab that will happily charge you twice the Apache rate to stay. Moab is a remote, tourist town and everything is expensive. The Apache rates are a relative bargain when you consider all this.

The staff is made up of Utah locals with decades of ties to Moab. Brittnie, Nancy and Tiffany made our stay so pleasant with their friendly manner and knowledge of the area. We also met loads of really nice people staying at the motel. One of the highlights each morning was gathering for coffee in the lobby or the seating area outside and getting to know people from all over the country and indeed, the world, as their were several international guests when we were there.

All in all, I would highly recommend the Apache Motel if you're looking for a truly local, authentic experience at a reasonable price.

The Apache has a comfortable and laid back feel with clean rooms, great amenities, and a perfect location just close enough to the main drag while still providing a quiet place to enjoy the surrounding scenery. Poolsideis a great place to relax in the daytime, fireside is a great place to gather at night, and the rooms provide a great night's sleep. And the owners and staff are a wellspring of local knowledge and recommendations. We came with a group of 12 and every one of us loved the place and will come back again.

We recently stayed 3 nights here as we explored the National Parks around Moab. Nancy was at front desk when we checked in and she was there every morning making sure the coffee carafe was full and baking and frosting the daily cinnamon rolls. We were pleasantly surprised to find our room (#17 on the second floor) ready when we arrived at 1:30 PM. There are no elevators so we carried our luggage up the stairs to our room. The bed was comfortable, the curtains blocked out the light, and the bath towels and wash cloths were thick. There was no housekeeping service while we were there, but we could ask at the front desk if we needed anything (such as additional toilet paper). The bathroom had a liquid soap dispenser by the sink and the tub/shower had dispensers of shampoo, conditioner, and body soap. The curved shower curtain provided more room while in the shower. Our floor creaked in a few places so we hopefully weren’t disturbing the guests who had the room below us. There wasn’t much street noise so we were able to get a good nights rest. The only issue we had was the bathroom’s electrical outlet only had electricity when the light switch was turned on. We had to plug the night light that we brought with us in an outlet the main bedroom, which lit up our sleeping area more than we liked. We enjoyed the breakfast options of coffee, tea, hot chocolate & juice boxes; fresh fruit (oranges and bananas), yogurt, oatmeal, boiled eggs, croissants, and fresh baked cinnamon rolls. Our email from the motel said cinnamon rolls were only served on Sunday, but Nancy told us they were served daily. The outdoor swimming pool was heated and open from 9 AM to 9 PM.

Why others gave this hotel a 8/10 or a 10/10 star review is beyond me, unless you have a pet which this hotel is very accommodating towards. This hotel was dated, smelly and dingy and despite the fact it was considered an economy hotel, it was not inexpensive. We stayed 2 nights. We had originally requested an upper floor room when we first booked (2 1/2 months before going) and were told upon check-in that they were full so we were on the ground floor between one room with 2 dogs and one room with a dog and a cat. The bathroom tiles were loose, the carpet stained and thread bare as it had probably never been replaced and the counter tops sticky. The bathroom had the original fixtures, mould on the ceiling and chipped paint throughout. The cutesy color of phone, microwave or handwritten notes do not make up for inadequacies of this property. One other thing to mention is the handwritten note recommending a tip to the housekeeping staff. Considering the room was not that immaculate and there was no cleaning services for a 2 night stay, we were a bit annoyed at this. The redeeming qualities were the water pressure of the shower, the refrigerator, the beds were relatively comfortable and it was fairly quiet, which is why it got 3/5 stars and not 1/5.

I visited Moab in the middle of April with the hope that my wife and I would have a comfortable place to stay in while viewing Arces National Park. We paid $155 per monigote for the two nights we were there. As I know $155 nightly is no t a fortune the motel should meet minimum expectations.

While I hesitate to use the word motel, I would more appropriately call it a “DUMP”. The room had sand on the windowsills and on the floor. When I told the front desk person about his she said”she was sorry but there was a sand storm the night before.” She did “NOTHING” to resolve the situation. When I came back to my room from being out the following day, it was not made up. I advised the owner, and he said there was no housekeeping service. We were no offered fresh towels or sheets. Lastly I let the owner know there were inadequate parking spaces located near the room. He replied to me with “What do you want, a reserved place.”

WORST OF ALL, instead of addressing any of these points and trying to resolve the situation, the owner attacked both my wife and I with personal remarks. He stated “It is always you California people who have problems.” He also said to my wife and I that “we were just “eking out the last bit of our lives”.

I don’t have an issue with trying to resolve the motels problems, but to attack us personally is poor business, rude and hateful.

Never in my travels have I experienced this nasty behavior.

If I could rate this motel weigh less than 1 star , I would.

Never again will we give our money to this establishment.
Charging $155 per night and telling your customers this is a good deal is nothing more than an excuse for picking their customers’s pocket.

Good riddance to bad trash.

Sincerely,

Michael Aberle

We had a family getaway in late April and we chose the Apache because it was reasonably priced for our group. BUT, the rooms were very old and smelled musty, the bathrooms have mold/dirt around sink and bathtub, you couldn't walk without shoes because of so much sand, and the bedspreads are that creepy old silk material that stinks and you can't help but wonder when it had been cleaned last. And the "pool" if you can call it that, was cold and didn't seem like it was regularly cleaned. The stay was so unpleasant, I would happily pay more to enjoy our stay.

Moab is an expensive place and I wanted to find something decent that wouldn't break the bank. So, my bar was set pretty low. But, turns out this place was terrific! Super clean, very comfortable, and the staff was really excellent. The owner was super friendly and helpful. We stayed in the "John Wayne Suite" and had plenty of room. It's nice to stay in a motel that reminds me of travelling when I was a kid. This motel is just the right amount of Kitschy. Lots more fun than the normal vanilla motel. I would definitely stay here again.

One thing... the breakfast is pretty basic, which was just fine for us (basically a yogurt, a packaged muffin, and a piece of fruit in a takeaway bag). But if a big, included breakfast is important to you, you might want to know that.

Excellent stay. Very clean and well equipped room with things you will need for a short stay, They provided ice cubes for the hot weather, so we could put some inside our cold box. Free breakfast is sufficient with boiled eggs, juice, coffee/tea, fruits, rolls etc. Cinnamon rolls are delicious! Car parking is convenient just outside, Room was quiet even ours was facing the road.

We chose the Apache Motel because of the reasonable rates and because it is four long blocks off the highway--so it is very quiet. The accommodations are nothing fancy, but totally serviceable and comfortable. The staff is wonderfully helpful and friendly. We were visiting Arches National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park, and this is very convenient for these and other breath-taking Utah scenery. We had also read about the breakfast cinnamon rolls. They really are great!
