A lot of people say the location of this hotel relative to Harpers Ferry is good, I disagree. It is very challenging to walk/hike or bike to Harpers Ferry safely as there are not safe routes. I still biked on the Freeway, but would not recommend it. Better route is through the park via Shoreline Drive which does not come up as option in google routing. The staff at the hotel were awesome I have to say and rooms about average as the rating indicates. The boutiques in town would have worked though due to holiday weekend, they were booked. In town is also closer to the AT.
What I liked best about this place was the location. It’s within walking distance of the national historical park visitors center from which you can catch a shuttle bus to the historic section of harpers ferry. It’s a 15-20 minute walk. You can also wander around other paths in the area which denote important moments in the civil war. I never used my car while I stayed there. Hotel itself is okay. Everything mostly worked. I wasn’t that impressed with the food served there except for breakfast. Breakfast was good. The staff were friendly and helpful. They are very capable of handling a large group i they did a good job with our group
There is a saying, my house is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy, and that is how I felt about this Clarion Inn location. It was a decent place and I would stay here again if I was in the area. The staff was pleasant, polite, personable and ready to help. The room that we stayed in was spacious (two queen sized beds) and worked well for a family with small kids. The facility seemed older, but with some new updates like whisper shut toilet lids. The bathrooms were clean, but the hotel provided three large towels for a family of four so we had to ask for one more. They had done some work on the bathroom sink in our room prior to us checking in but did not install the drain stopper properly which prevented the sink from draining, but a call to the front desk had the staff in motion. The amenities in the room was nice, and the small refrigerator allowed us to store food and drinks for our stay. There was also a microwave and TV. The room had its own HVAC system so you could easily control the temperature and keep your room at a temperature that you choose. Our unit worked well, but was older so the fan bearing squeaked every time the fan started, but by putting the fan in continuously on mode, that solved the problem. There was an indoor pool on site (no lifeguard) that went from a depth of about 3.5 feet to 5.5 feet. I believe that it had a salt filtration system as it did not burn your eyes if you did not have goggles on, although the pool water was not clear. It was great for elementary/middle school kids. The breakfast was what you would expect, make your own waffles, pastries, yogurt, some fruit, coffee, etc.. more food was put out on the weekends than on weekdays. The space was big for groups to physically distance easily. However, some of the tables were wobbly and needed some repairs. It was in a great location close to national parks, historic battlefields, trails, and white water rafting businesses. There was plenty of parking on site. Have fun!…
to correct an earlier review there was a hot breakfast and two waffle makers were available. the hotel is basic but the rooms are large and clean. the pool was closed though. the hotel is conveniently located and the front staff were friendly
I felt trip advisor let me down on this one. I was disappointed to find out the pool was closed, the breakfast was a cold grab and go style with few choices and the hotel restaurant had lost its liquor license. The hotel was quiet and close to my training, but I probably would not stay here again.
I had points available thru Choice Hotels. I think it is a nice motel, dated, but I am surprised on how wide the halls are and the rooms are big. The staff is great. I would stay here again if we make it back out to Harpers Ferry.
Excellent night stay. Front desk staff was awesome. Very pleasant, friendly and helpful staff. Our room was on first floor overlooking the pool with a small balcony which was really nice. Room was clean and no problems. Plenty of parking. We also liked the proximity to the NP. Having a good restaurant is also nice after a long drive. We will definitely stay here again
I was in town for a few days to visit Harpers Ferry Nat'l, Historic Park (first time in WV). I hadn't made a reservation in advance, since I was traveling at an off-peak time. The hotel was reasonably priced, clean & conveniently located to where I wanted to be (the park primarily). Upon my arrival (last week), the person at the front desk (I don't know his name) was very hospitable in getting me checked in! There's a restaurant on-site (The Black Horse Tavern), which is very convenient! It was quite busy for a Monday evening. The food was delicious, also reasonable & I had excellent service! I asked for decaf coffee.to complete my meal, which the restaurant doesn't have. The man at the front desk brewed some for me & put it out in the lobby area, next to the regular coffee. THANK YOU SO MUCH:) The room was great! Even though I traveled alone, I really like that the bathroom is split, so that 2 people can use it at once (toilet & shower separate from the sink). This is a great feature that other hotels should have as well if / as able. Their beds are really comfy!!! Housekeeping only comes during your stay if you want them to (the new normal). Since I was only there (2) nights, I didn't need the service the first morning. A few of the housekeepers were cleaning nearby rooms and very friendly! They asked if I needed anything (no, but thank you for asking:) Breakfast is free. While nothing fancy, it was nice to have available & hit the spot to start the day. The eating area is pleasant. The woman who was replenishing was also very friendly & efficient! They have an indoor pool & workout area. Both were clean & nicely maintained. I didn't use either this visit, as I got my exercise at the park. It would be nice if bike rental was nearby. Maybe there was & I just didn't see it. I highly recommend this hotel!.…
The Hotel staff and facilities were wonderful. The common areas and rooms were very clean and the bed, very comfortable. We were traveling by bicycle and the front desk shared some very important route information for a safe arrival, as well as area dining options. There was a secure bike spot for overnight and a road worthy breakfast. At each turn, the staff was wonderful. We will be back!
Nothing spectacular about this hotel, but it serves a purpose -- getting you close to Harpers Ferry National Park. We were fortunate to get a room here for our last minute trip since every single B&B inside the park (both Lower Town and Upper Town) had no vacancies. The room was large, the bathroom was large, the shower had strong water pressure, the price was right. It's a 3 minute drive into the Park, or to the Country Cafe, where we ate breakfast twice. The hotel includes a breakfast -- some fruit and prepackaged muffins and cereal, but we wanted something hot and hearty. The staff is extremely nice. Our keycards stopped working, so they reprogrammed them and then walked back to our room with us to make sure they had fixed the issue. We needed assistance with the electric car charger, so someone left the front desk and walked with us to the charger to help out. I liked seeing so many guests walking their dogs on the hotel grounds. Gives the place a friendly vibe.…
