This was our second visit to Bayfield. We stayed at Gruenke's both times. Our first stay in the summer of 2014 was very pleasant, unlike our very recent visit this fall. We stayed in the Madeline room. The mattress was absolutely terrible! Like sleeping on a board! The result was lack of sleep, tossing, turning and a backache the next... More

Our room was very quaint furnished with some great antique furniture. It was small but adequate, clean and very comfortable. I would definitely recommend to my friends and stay again. We had to share a bathroom but for my very first time doing this, I was pleasantly surprised. The shower room are separate from the bathroom. It was all good.

We stayed at Gruenke's while in town for a weekend of kayaking. The inn is in downtown Bayfield, which was very convenient, and 5 min. from the kayak outfit. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Our room was very cozy, just two beds with a shared bathroom and a box fan in the window, but cost a LOT less than... More

We didn't realize we were traveling in "high season" for that part of the country. We stopped at the Chamber of Commerce, and they gave us a list of properties who "might" have availability for the night. We started calling; this was the 2nd place we called. It was a "studio" with one large room with a queen sized bed,... More

This has become our annual summer fishboil. It holds up every year to great standards with tasty whitefish, potatos, onions, cole slaw, bread, and raspberry shortcake dessert. The two who run the fishboil are also the waiters and are so hospitable moving as fast as they can to accomodate. Call ahead and put your name in for the night you want to... More

I visit the Bayfield / Apostle Islands area every summer and have for over 25 years now. I particularly enjoy my stay at Gruenke's. A historic building(s) built in the 1800's - it now features several lodging options - from complete rooms to sleeping rooms sharing bathrooms. Over the years I've stayed in all and have always been happy with... More

We stayed in Gruenke's one night, in room 3 - which is called the "cowboy room". It was very comfortable with a half bath. There was a shower available to us on the floor that others could use as well. This reminded me of a quaint B&B where the rooms seemed more like bedrooms, rather than hotel rooms. The price... More

Our group of 5 stayed here in June in 2 rooms. Some of us had stayed here about 10 years ago. If you like history and antiques, and a "shabby chic" decorating style, you will be comfortable here for a day or two. The decor is similar to a stay at your great-grandma's house. I personally would not stay for... More

I stayed here recently on a romantic getaway for a few days. We had a room over the pizza place, surprisingly it was still quiet and comfortable. This is a quaint and dated B&B, but still affordable, clean and cute. Judith is a wonderful hostess! This inn is definitely a historic piece in Bayfield, whether you enjoy just food or... More

Ate breakfast here. The food was good but it took a long time to arrive even though the place wasn't busy. The staff was friendly if slow. If you are in a hurry this probably isn't the place for you but if you don't mind chatting with local customers & waiting awhile, you will enjoy the quirky charm of this... More
