Pros - Very good location - Newly renovated - Clean rooms and fully equiped baths - Comfortable for business trips - Good internet connection Cons - The smell, I noticed it in many hotels similar to this one (but you get used to it) - If you get a room with the view to the street, it is very noisy... If you are those type of travelers that leave hotel in the morning and return at night after a day exploring the city and look for a clean room and shower this is perfect place regarding the: - Price - Location, less than 10 minutes walk to Union Square, many breakfast and food places around, two Starbucks , in front... This hotel was horrible. I will say the staff was nice but that's where the positive side ends. My sister and I booked two nights here on a two week road trip we are taking through the west. For San Francisco the price seemed very decent and most of the reviews just focused on avoiding the elevator of death. For... More

I would recommend paying anything for a nicer hotel!!! The staff was rude and unaccommodating, the hotel itself should be condemned. The bed was like sleeping on rocks...that creaked with any movement. To complete the misery the airport shuttle service they use was late causing us to hail a cab so we didn't miss our flight - when we asked... More

You can't beat the location and price. It's right at the edge of Chinatown so right at the top of the main street. So fabulous in the aspect, but that's where it ends I'm afraid. No tea/coffee facilities, rattling old lift, noisy water pipes, grotty carpets and ancient heating/plumbing The breakfast is like being in a prison, they watch you... More

I just needed a clean bed and bathroom with desk and wifi walking distance to BART Montgomery Street station and this worked well. A bargain choice in a non-bargain city, this was a completely acceptable place in an awesome location. The bathroom was small, with an annoying half step up to the sink that I kept stubbing my toe on... More

The hotel itself catered for pretty much everything we needed, the staff were pleasant and the hotel seemed clean and safe. The only main problem is that it's in a busy part of San Fran right next to china town which is a perfect location for seeing sights but not so good when the windows are paper thin and even... More

We have booked the hotel in advance in March, the hotel sent the confirmation to me. Then, I have asked for some question to them, they haven't answered. When I arrived hotel in September, the reception said we haven't booked the hotel and need to pay more for walk-in price. The confirmation said it is US150 for 2nights, but I... More

Guests have to know that at this price you're not getting luxury (or anything close), but a decent, basic, centrally-located facility. We found Astoria to be clean, simple, and literally a few steps from Chinatown gate. Also easy walk to Union Square, convention center, and much of central SF. Can't beat the location or the price. Are those advantages worth... More

What can I say? Have you seen Fawlty Towers? This place had a broken elevator, so we lugged bags up 5 floors. There were issues with hot water, which was luke warm at best. The heater broke on our first night. The wifi worked intermittently for half our room and when I complained, I was told it was because too... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighborhood decorated with colorful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighborhood.
