I've stayed at this property several times and my most recent visit was by far the best one yet at this hotel. The property is in a great location if you are there to see major sights and attractions. It is also conveniently located if you are attending a Giants baseball game.
The rooms have the signature W design, which I happen to like but they may not be for everyone. However, the rooms are definitely showing wear and tear. The property recently installed water bottle refill stations on every floor, which is great. The hotel gym is fantastic, if you plan to use it; I was impressed by the space and the available equipment.
The hotel charges a Destination Fee, so make sure you are getting full use out of everything that the fee includes. The front desk should have a card or a QR code you can scan that lists all the current amenities. Speaking of the front desk, Sean deserves a shout-out. He was awesome at check-in and very helpful.

Cannot rave about this hotel enough. Stayed there for my birthday weekend and they did not disappoint. Once they realized it was my birthday when I checked in until I checked out-it seemed as if all the staff knew it was my birthday and they went out of their way to make it special! The room was impeccable and properly taken care of each day. The location was extremely convenient to catch a street car or a cable car and a short walk to the Ferry Building. If you are looking for a place to stay that will take care of you and convenient-this is the place!

Stayed here for 6 nights, and definitely not impressed. Compared to many other W Hotels in the rest of the world, W SF was more like a 3-star budget hotel. There were 2 of us, but every day they only replaced 1 bottled water. Even bathrobes, the replacement was only for 1. We had to asked for drinking glasses which will always be removed after room cleaning, and it was a pain to call to request day after day. Once I requested for a bowl and spoon so I can have my cereal in the room, they sent me a paper bowl and disposable spoon instead. Not a classy hotel at all, but ok if it is just for a no-frills business trip.

Lovely hotel, beautifully decorated, great location, and wonderful staff (special shout out to JP at reception!). The rooms are good sized and there is lots of comfortable seating in the lobby as well. The Trace restaurant has great service and is a tasty option for breakfast/lunch; the food/beverage credit included in the destination fee makes the prices reasonable. The destination fee also includes vouchers for many wonderful local sites, the Museum of Modern Art is right next door and the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park is fun to visit for adults and kids alike (best to get there on the early side to avoid waiting to get in). We also used the vouchers for the cable cars which are a SF institution - and if the line at Powell/Market is too long you can hop on a few blocks up Powell Street with a much shorter wait.

When a hotel makes a relatively minor screw up and then more than compensates for the problem I am quite impressed. We had reserved a corner room small suite with a view at a good price ($240) and arrived yesterday to check in. A quite nice fellow checked us in, gave us a room on the 27th floor. We went up to find that the room had not been make up by the maid so we went back to the front desk. The fellow at the desk was deeply apologetic, gave us a room exactly one floor down, put a $40 food/beverage credit on our account. We spent the evening out at the Giants game only to return to the room and find a complimentary bottle of Cabernet and a nice platter of cheese, crackers, and fruit. The room was immaculate, everyone was sweet, and the minor error was fixed many times over. I would go back immediately. The room had an amazing view and represented an outstanding value. How's that for a view from a room at a decent value??

Hotels need to be first and foremost supportive of their guests. With Marriott I expect excellent support for business guests. Unlike other expensive Marriott hotels, breakfast is not free at W. Worse yet, you end up waiting in line to get a table, waiting for the food, and waiting for the bill (which is obserdly expensive $20 for oatmeal???). The ultimiate insult is the business center (which I had to use when my PC broke down). They have the nerve to charge $30/hour for the PC and paper is $0.50/page (if I remember correctly). This feels like a setup to take advantage of their guest - it's certainly not a level of support that I have come to expect from Marriott.
I don't know who they plan on hosting at W, but I recommend that business travelers skip this one.

We stayed here for a long weekend. The manager is very sweet and nice she took her time to provide recommendations for dining in the area. The people working at the front desk were so lovely to talk to. They gave us tickets to the MOMA, tickets for the tram, and two water bottles that we used to refill throughout our stay. The room is average but no complaints on cleanliness and it had everything we needed. When in a city like this one not much time is spent in the hotel room. The lobby has very much a club vibe with a DJ and bar lounge area. We stayed in a high floor so we were not impacted by any noise. The location was great.

As a Marriott Bonvoy member, we stay at a lot of Marriotts and are usually very happy with them. During our most recent stay, the W San Francisco temporarily raised the prices due to an event in town resulting a nightly rate of $1500. The rooms are small and class B. We ordered a pot of coffee delivered to our room and were charged $29. The lobby is very loud and it was difficult to have a conversation. On a positive note, the housekeeping service was excellent. Overall, extremely poor value and we will not be returning to this hotel.

I really enjoyed my stay at W San Francisco. The rooms are spacious with all of the amenities needed to get you through the stay. As a tourist I didn’t mind paying the destination fee as I was able to use the inclusions. The lobby bar has a great vibe and was a nice way to unwind after a day of site seeing.
My only concern is that the rooms are not at all soundproof. You can hear if your neighbors are talking and showering.
All in all a pleasant stay and I would consider the hotel again if I was visiting the area

As a Bonvoy Platinum for Life member, I have been to a number of Bonvoy properties over the years. I can unequivocally state that this was the worst stay of my life. I will NEVER return.
First, because it was for a special event, I was required to pay in advance months before for the room and it was non-refundable. The rate for my room without tax was over $2,200 per night!! For a W. Fine, it is what it is. I held up my end of the bargain and paid for the stay in entirety when I booked.
Upon arrival, which was more than an hour after the promised check in time if 3:00, I was told the room was not ready and would not be for some time. I asked why the hotel couldn't live up to its end of the bargain. They took my money (and a lot of it) months before and I arrived well after the hotel's designated check-in time, not before. I was basically told to be quiet and be patient. I said it was unacceptable that I would now likely miss a 5:00 meeting because a room promised to me at 3:00, which I had paid for months before, was not ready for me. This is when they brought out a guy named Oscar, who purported to be some sort of manager but based on his unwillingness to help or even discuss the situation, he clearly was not any sort of manager. When I asked him if he thought the hotel was in the wrong here he told me he would cancel my reservation in full and give me a full refund. Thanks for the creative solution Oscar! The fact that your dump of a hotel was able to charge $2200/ night to begin with meant that there were no other vacancies in San Francisco. Finally, a woman named Gabi came out. She stated that she was also a manger but, unlike Oscar, she actually acted like one and had managerial authority. Miraculously, another room had become available and she put me in that one. Apparently Oscar was unable to locate this room or offer it to me only a minute before. Great manager. The hotel is the definition of amateur hour. Other than Gabi, the staff were across the board unprofessional and knowledgeable. They would be better suited to work at a Red Roof Inn. Good luck

I would call the hotel to be sure. I think it is about the view and what floor the room is in, the higher the floor, the better the view. Ask for a corner room and it will be slightly bigger. You can also take the risk and when you get there if you don't like the room just ask them to change it. If they have availability, they will do it for you either for a better view or for a larger room. AND if the person behind the desk is in a good mood, they may not even charge you for it.
There are more places to choose from in the San Francisco area.
