I was lucky enough to stay at the Seal Rock Inn after more then a year (Covid). It was so good to be back. I missed my special spot by the sea very much. Although accommodations were limited right now, the staff says they are gearing up for the Governor's mid-June date. The restaurant is closed, but there's word of a possible new tenant soon. But no word yet on timing. The owners continue to do work on the rooms, and they're looking good. I was thrilled to get the third floor suite and was so touched by the gesture. The 38 is running out to Land's End, albeit on a more limited schedule, so getting around was fine. It was great to see the city coming back. And to hear the hoot of an owl, the sounds of the sea, and my beloved foghorns. I'll return!
Classic Retro Gem! We love it here! The staff is very helpful and professional. We had to make changes & extensions with our reservation a few times and it always worked out with their help. Thank you!
We were pleasantly surprised to sum it up. The location and the friendliness from the staff made up for any outdated decor or grounds. We actually feel like that all gave it a very quaint and old school feel. The corner family suite had a wonderful view of the ocean and the location of the hotel literally put us across the street from walking trails with some of the most beautiful views! It is about a quarter mile from the famous cliff house (though has been forced to close due to Covid) and the beautiful Beach! The room was very spacious and equipped with a coffee pot, fridge and microwave and cabinets for food storage. The windows also opened which was nice to let that ocean breeze in. The room was clean and the setup of the twin beds was very clever! We have family that stays just a couple of blocks from the inn so this is now our go to spot from here on out. We’ll be visiting again next month! …
I’ve stayed here in the past with my family with no problems. Today I called to reserve because the online descriptions for rooms weren’t clear on how 5 people fit in any of the rooms. Rooms either have 2 Queens or 1 Queen, 2 twins. After explaining why I’m calling, first I’m countered with the online booking should be clear. Basically that I shouldn’t be experiencing the difficulties I’m experiencing. The rooms accommodate 5 per fire code. That’s nice if I’m reviewing their fire code. Then I’m told that either room can have 5. So I explain I’m trying to understand the sleeping configurations... to which I’m told it’s not his job to tell me how to arrange my sleeping arrangements... we can do what we want. Still not getting it... so 1 person in each twin and 3 in the Queen? Again, he’s not here to tell me.... anything. I ask for a manager and am met with a “good luck with that” attitude. I’m stunned at how completely rude, unhelpful, unprofessional this guy was. No attempt to problem solve, help me achieve what I’m trying to, no suggestions for an adjoining room... just a piss poor, warm body answering the phone, annoyed that I didn’t just book online. To be honest, at this point I let him have it. All of it. He deserved nothing less than the tirade he was given. And I will NEVER stay there again. Considering the times and the loss of their own restaurant, Cliff House and Louies, they’re screwed. This guy will certainly drive away anyone left remotely interested in staying there.…
We're native San Franciscan's and have stayed at the Seal Rock a number of times over the past 30 years. We know what to expect. It's an old hotel that has seen better times, despite some attempt at remodeling over the past decade. What we were not expecting was deck clerks without face-covering, and people standing in the lobby without masks. Right now their on-line web-site contains a statement from the GM recounting the steps they are taking to ensure the safety of guests. I can't say for sure whether our room had really been vacant for 48 hours before our stay, but other items they list on their site, such as removing throws and non-essential items from the rooms, had not been done. Be aware what you are getting into. FWIW, we were visiting for a medical procedure.
