The service and friendliness of the staff is why we rated this 5 star. We had a large room and hotel added a roll away for my teens. The staff greeted us coming and going, the $25 destination fee was applied to the market which was safe and convenient. Hertz has a rental car counter in the hotel which we used to visit Muir Woods. The staff provided safe walking directions and restaurant recommendations. The rooms were clean, quiet and modern. Would stay here again as the location was outstanding- next to the Powell station and 15 min walk to Chinatown and North Beach.
I have been here and enjoyed this property many times before, but now have to admit it seems in decline. It is still the most convenient hotel for conferences at the Moscone Center, but otherwise not a great stay. Check in was ok, but no upgrade for platinum status, and the room was rather faded, basically in need of renovation. My colleague and I arrived just before 9pm, and there was no dining option open, either in the hotel or the neighborhood. I went to bed and was hoping for a nice breakfast. It's great to have a lounge for platinum members, but the breakfast was really very mediocre. Other than the coffee, which was fine, there was really nothing I wanted to eat. Friends without lounge access tried the ground floor restaurant, but they found it expensive and also not good at all. One of my colleagues stayed at the Beacon Grand, which was $100 cheaper but had a much nicer lobby and supposedly a great breakfast. Sadly, I think I was look for another hotel for my next meeting at Moscone. …
Checked in late with Miguel. Easy and nice. Great view and clean. Got up the next day and explored SF from 8.30am until 8pm. Got home and found room not made. Ok perhaps because of late arrival - rooms don't get done. I went down and enquired, dark lady on 7th of March said ALL rooms get serviced. So I just thought ok, can we have fresh towels and coffee. Next day we got up early and did the touristy things, came back and room still not done! My partner had to come down to make sure I didn't explode. Aurora said, did we ask for room service, I replied I was told all rooms get done, she then informed me no that's not the case. So I informed her I was down last night and was told ALL rooms get serviced. She went around the back and brought out a piece of paper about the housekeeping rules. Perfect, I said...no one mentioned this on check in, lady last night said ALL rooms get cleaned. Aurora then asked did we have DND sign on the door, when my partner said , no we most certainly did not. I only came back here (after 23 years) , I brought my Mum here in 1999 and thought it would be nice, service was far superior back then! Room is functional and clean. We had a disable room which we liked as its roomier. Hotel is in a great location as I remembered everything from my previous stay. Old Navy is my favourite store. Would I come back? Will think!…
I made my reservation through Southwest Airlines and received very frustrating customer service when trying to resolve an issue with my booking. Despite this challenge, the front desk staff and hotel manager Xander was extremely helpful and generous with her time to help resolve the issue (even tho she nor her staff were the cause of it). I felt very well taken care of by the Marriott Marquis hotel staff.
I have stayed in this hotel many times, but have decided I will not stay there again. The service is good and everyone who works here is super nice from the front desk to the gentlemen at the bell desk. Here’s why I’m giving it three stars. First, the rate was high compared to other hotels in the area for the same night. I paid $285 for one night in a “low floor” room (more on that later). Parc 55’s rate for the same night was $182, but I wanted to stay where my friends were staying. Second, the “low floor” room I got was on the 7th floor and the windows looked out into…the inside of the hotel! So weird! Photo of the view from my room is attached. I am a Gold Elite Member and I was told no upgrades were available. Needless to say, it was strange and depressing to have no natural light in my room even in the daytime. Definitely not worth the nearly $300 price-tag. Third, there were ants in the bathroom. There was a hair (yes, *that* kind of hair) stuck on the bottle of shampoo that was not mine. Also, the hot water was so cloudy it looked like milk. Photos attached. Disappointing stay. There are so many nice hotels in the city without ants and hair in the bathroom.…
The Marriott Marquis is well located and close to key bus stops, trolleys, cable cars and BART (rail). This is a big hotel with over 1,400+ rooms and caters to on-site conferences. For the duration of our stay, there was a constant buzz of people wearing lanyards with their name tags from their respective conferences. We also saw law enforcement officers either in the hotel lobby or around the hotel which was comforting given the number of homeless folks on the streets around the hotel. We did not notice any issues, just had to be weary. Rooms – We had a lovely corner suite on a high floor. Rooms were clean and modern with minimal amenities in the room. However, most of the amenities from additional towels to toiletries to slippers can be requested via the app and were promptly delivered to our room. The only downside to the room was a lack of water pressure. Check-in/Check-out – We checked into the hotel very late and we were greeted by Chimalyn who did an excellent job checking us into our rooms as efficiently as possible. I have to call out the wonderful service we received from Sabina who took the time to walk us through the benefits afforded to us from the destination fee. Finally, Miguel, thank you for being so patient and helping us sort through all the issues with our final bill. Destination Fee – The daily $25 can be used for food and beverage at the hotel which we maximized each day at The View in the 39th floor. We received 4 one-way cable car tickets (round trip for 2 people) and these were great for the scenic trip from Market Street (close to the hotel) to the Wharf. We also received 2 vouchers for 2hr bike rental at the wharf which might have great in the warmer months. We did appreciate the Marriot Marquis San Francisco handing out refillable stainless steel bottles which we used. Definitely much better than all those small plastic bottles which they also provided when requested. M Lounge – The lounge is located on the 2nd floor. It is reasonably large and was busy but never crowded. Access to the lounge is via your room key card. For breakfast at the lounge you would be greeted by an unfriendly member of staff (eg: Malte) who would ask for your last name and room number. I appreciate the checks to ensure no over-crowding of the lounge and unauthorized access, but seriously Marriott, most folks who use the lounge have elite status and have access to the lounge. You might want to consider installing a less grumpy member of staff with a more service orientated decorum especially in the mornings before my coffee. Breakfast options consists of the usual scrambled eggs, pork sausage, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, pastries, tea and coffee. During the afternoons and evenings, there are some light snack options. Wine is also available and is charged to your room by scanning your room keycard. The View on the 39th Floor – Lovely sunset views and amazing cocktails. It does get crowded on the weekends right at 4pm when it opens and most of the better viewing seats are taken. Service can be hit and miss. We had great service one night and below average service the next night.…
Here is the short and sweet: Location: Close to downtown and probably within walking distance to a lot of places. Though may not be too safe to wander around at nights Room: Has been (recently?) renovated, but still has issues. The shower head lacks enough pressure. After every shower, there is a puddle of water outside (as the sliding doors don't shut tight). The bed had very poor quality. You could hear the metal box/springs as you lay on it or move. The linens had very poor quality. Also no water in the room (as advertised) Food: There is a restaurant at the lobby level. Breakfast is open buffet and pretty solid. Dinner was below-average food Bar: There is a nice bar with a city view on the top floor
Great location, staff and service. The Pantry is a good place to use the $25/day "Destination Fee" they hit you with. You have to rationalize that If you're going to stay here. However the staff is great. They look for things you like and highlight that.
Beautiful hotel in a great location! If you stay here you have to make sure you collect the free items! We got a water bottle, trolley passes, bike rentals, and free coffee from the shop! They don't tell you when you check in, but it says it on the paperwork! It's crazy! Everything was great here. The valet is crazy expensive at $91 but they are very efficient. I love how you text them, they reply when they get your car and it's right there when we come down.
Once a nice place, now showing its age. Rooms are dark, not enough lighting. There are plenty of plugs & USB ports, a plus. Hardware, like doorstop, hanging on by a thread. There was a dirty sock under the bed. The fixtures in the bathroom were also loose. There was very low pressure in the shower- the handheld nozzle barely had any flow. One of my partners on a different floor is pretty sure she got bedbugs (was examined by several MDs who agreed). Hotel said nothing found. Didn’t even comp the night she was bitten. Windows in the 39th floor bar were dirty, so hard to see the view. I know weather has been awful in Bay Area, and lots of smoke in last few years, so maybe that’s why. Don’t park in the garage. Valet overnight $91 + tax. I haven’t been to SF since well before the pandemic and had stayed here before when it was nice. Would avoid if I come back.…
