I booked our room through Priceline.....didn't know the hotel name until after it was booked. I was excited to see that it was located downtown San Francisco! When we arrived about 9 at night there were quite a few sketchy people outside and we did not feel comfortable walking around. The parking situation is quite bad as the valet was... More

Pros: Hotel is very well situated with lots of shopping opportunities close by. Old style interior with big chandeliers ind the lobby. Bathrooms are of newer date. Clean rooms. Good value for money - we have paid waaaay more for really crappy rooms in others hotels in San Francisco, so Whitcomb feels like a bargain. Cons: House keeping walking around... More

Hotel was nice, friendly staff and nice rooms. Although the traffic was quite loud from our room which made it difficult to sleep at times. Location also isn't great being close to Tenderloin but it is close enough to walk to union square if you avoid the Tenderloin. Bit overall the hotel was ok.

This is the first time I review a terrible rate to a hotel. I was in San Fran and stayed in Hotel Whitcomb during July 18-21. The front desk welcomed us very warmly, but after the 1st night, one of my colleges' room was flooded in the restroom. They sent a technician to fix it in the morning, but that... More

I needed a one night stay before heading to Napa and I used Hotwire to book this place last minute. I'm glad I was there for only one night as the room was tiny and the bed was lousy and there was a urine type of odor. It was cheap for San Fran hotel standards. Location is ok but lots... More

The thing that saves this hotel is the location- not exactly the neighborhood (which is a bit rough), but the access to every public transportation available. Perfect for those who don't spend much time in their room. That being said, the WiFi didn't work, the rooms were not soundproofed in any sense of the term, which led me to learn... More

Checked in with 3 other friends. None of them liked it, as they found it too old. For me, however, I do find the old settings "classical" and "with character" - not only in the lobby, but also the room. Even the AC is the room is the old type, with the mechanical turn right-left buttons. And there are even... More

The entire hotel staff was very considerate, we arrived early and they made every arrangement to get us our rooms even before check-in, The hotel has easy access to the hotel from the front and back, valet was very quick no waiting. The rooms are immaculate and centrally located to all types of food in the area. Both the bus... More

I love the historical side of this property. That leads quickly into the room sizes. There are many options but the first option they will give you by default is a closet. Full size bed with a walk space. You can upgrade for as little as $10 a night to $25. Depending on your reaction they start making a deal.... More

If you want a nice, affordable place to stay in San Francisco, try the Whitcomb hotel. They have a selection of small rooms that are affordably priced for individuals or traveling couples. There is a Muny stop right outside the front door, so it is very convenient for public transportation and is walking distance from good shopping and restaurants.

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
