This hotel is old, beds are in worse shape than the 100 years old building, asked for low profile pillows and they are not available, they gave me a two full size bed (horrible) . Not to mention the neighborhood, forget walking the streets after 7pm. Only good thing is very close to BART subway. I will never come back... More

First mistake it is in the Tenderloin area of San Fran so be prepared for dozens of homeless and drug addicts in close proximity to the Hotel. The Hotel is heritage listed but really needs a bulldozer, the place smells every where very musky, putting your head down on the sheets you think to yourself mmm.. I should really wash... More

I have stayed here many times. The rooms need to be renovated but I just love the historical feel (lobby ceilings for example) to it. There was a safe in the room not that I remember that in previous visits. My room was small but with the basic essentials. I find the location great. It has a Bart entrance in... More

When you first walk in, the interior is very pretty and clean. However, the rooms were very dark and had a old, dreary feel to them. The wifi was poor and the 'gym' was awful. However, the staff were friendly and attentive and the beds were comfy. San Francisco is an amazing place and the hotel definitely didn't dampen my... More

Not very content with the hotel stay. The hotel is old, outdated and smells. Lots of bums, and drug dealers in the area. The location is close to downtown and transportation, but was afraid of my safety. Not recommend for family stay. Restaurants near by are smelly and dirty from a the homeless roaming the streets. Overnight stay parking was... More

very disappointing, if not the worst that I remember... place is not clean, area is no good, etc etc... I would suggest one of many many other good options in San Francisco all still affordable and sensible, while clean

When I first walked in I was amazed by the architectural design of the lobby and the high ceilings are a great feature. The women who helped us at the front desk was very professional and helped us a lot because we had difficulties checking in. The hotel room is very nice and well cleaned and the high ceilings are... Staff was very helpful and respectful. Beautiful lobby and great rooms. The beds are very comfortable and service is very quick and easy. I'd definitely stay here again if I visit. I highly recommend it.

A bit old , i know that is an historical hotel in San Francisco, but it should be kept a bit better . Expensive for what they offer ! Internet free but not working at all ! Position good very near to Union Square!

It had been six years since we last stayed at The Hotel Whitcom. Upon arrival, I encountered Renee, who has been behind the front desk forever, and he welcomed us back. The front desk associate, who checked us in, was very gracious, friendly, and noted that we had stayed there before, and she too, welcomed us back. Our room was... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
