Just got back from a two week holiday which included a four night stay at this hotel. I have stayed in many hotels around the world, even in third world countries and I can honestly say this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. To say it is spooky and smelly is an understatement. The carpets look like... More

The location of the hotel is perfect. Union Square is just a few blocks from the hotel. The hotel interiors have a venetian look, including the doors of the lifts. Only negative is the breakfast part which was not included in my room package. Nor there was a coffee/kettle in the room. When I asked for one, hotel said that... More

For the price this location is my choice. Comfortable clean beds / rooms but the rooms are a bit small like staying in downtown NY. The decor is unique and cool looking showing the golden years from its well kept history. Cross the street and our at the train station leading you almost everywhere.

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights during our stay in San Francisco. Whilst the room was clean, it was quite dark and dingy, and extremely dated. Wifi was a bit ropey but worked. I think If the hotel was to receive a revamp then it would be stunning, however it just seems a bit forgotten about. Staff were... More

SF is a very expensive place to stay so this hotel is reasonable if you are staying for a short time on a budget. The rooms are quite small and the bathrooms in particular. However, the location is great for walking into the city and getting the MUNI etc. Some nice diners across the road for breakfast too and a... More

Ok. So let's start with the good things about this property. It's in the center of downtown with a Starbucks and upscale restaurant attached to it. The lobby is lovely with a mahogany, marble and chandelier lobby. The downside is....after that....everything went downhill. My hotel room number plaque had been knocked off (by a "drunk person", according to the manager),... More

When we arrived it was at night, as we entered the reception it did look welcoming. when we got our room number we we went up the elevators which as soon as I got out I felt a weird atmosphere going on which later on I felt that the hotel was haunted. The rooms were basic, quite dark but clean.... More

I have stayed at this hotel at least 7+ times a year since 2005. I have stayed at all the other big names as well but Hotel Whitcomb has the fancy bells and whistles while remaining personable, warm, friendly and simple to navigate. The same staff for several years and they are loyal to customer satisfaction my Favorite is Burney... More

This hotel is a scam. They charge your credit card for rooms and won't refund you back if you want to cancel your reservation. I never stayed at the hotel but had several horrible phone calls with the manager and I was charged 183.78 on my credit card even though I never walked into the place. Thanks Priceline and the... I wanted to take my wife to a nice Hotel in SF on a Saturday night. We were new to the area and booked through 'Historic Hotels.' Got a good rate for SF; they parked the car, and the experience went down hill from there. Dirty, old, small, dark that is the best way to describe the room. Location is... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
