Booked through the Amex Fine Hotel & Resorts program and this is not a fine hotel however they will charge you a $30 "facilities" fee. It's BS but you also get $100 food and beverages credit from Amex and $30/person breakfast credit so it sorta works out. Rooms are average and there are probably none that have even a halfway decent view. However everything was clean and the in-house bistro has surprisingly good wines (but expensive). Location is good and as long as you go in eyes wide open, it's good enough.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Taj Campton on the 3rd leg of our trip. We flew into SF for a night, then went to Napa for a couple nights and stayed our last 3 nights in SF at the Taj Campton. The staff at Taj Campton was so great. I don't remember the last time where I kept saying to my boyfriend how nice the staff treated us. We were always greeted with a friendly welcome by Edwin or Dan. We would park and whichever was working would come to open my passenger door shielding me from the oncoming traffic. Gabriella was helpful at the front desk. Our favorite was bartender David. We went to the bar after dinner every night, I admit it was probably because of David we went back the 2nd and 3rd night. Super friendly and enjoyed talking to him. We felt at home at this hotel. The only downside was the coffee and muffins that were supposed to be in the lobby in the morning. I think the timing may have been off. But the Nespresso machines in our room definitely made up for that. I was also happy there were bottles of water available for us There is no garage at the hotel, but for ~$70 you can valet. We went for this option and it was ok and convenient for us. I also thought the rooms were pretty clean. There's a Starbucks next door. Walgreens in walking distance. Chinatown is a couple blocks away and plenty of Japanese restaurants in walking distance, as well as Union Square

We were disappointed to find the restaurant closed, and the bistro available only for dinner. The restaurant appears open on the hotel website, and we chose the hotel in large part to visit the 2 Michelin star restaurant. I get that establishments mark up food costs and I don't have an issue with that, but markups on room service were extreme to the point of absurdity. $10 before the 20% service charge for a bottle of sparkling water? $40 for truffle fries? Get this -- "selection of cold kellog's cereals with milk: $10 for cheerios/corn flakes/special K/raisin bran" etc." An additional $5 to add a banana to your cereal. Toasted bagel -- $10. The room was dark and crowded. We were inexplicably charged a $30 "facility" fee after checkout, and were told that it was standard practice at hotels in San Francisco and covered things like "water and coffee" -- though we paid $7 for coffee. We were on the tail end of a three-week trip where we stayed at several five-star, four-diamond, "best of trip advisor" blah blah blah hotels -- I have no hesitation about paying a premium for excellent accommodation, but the Taj was the most inexplicably expensive and unaccommodating stay of our trip.

We booked this hotel for one night while celebrating our anniversary in San Francisco. We used the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts, which provide a number of amenities, such as early check-in, upgrades, 4 PM checkout and a food and beverage credit. Arrived much earlier than we expected, but they were able to check us in, provide an upgrade, explain the amenities available to us and asked if they could send up a gift to celebrate our anniversary. They provided a nice bottle of champagne and chocolate truffles! Room was quiet, AC worked well, all the staff we encountered were extremely friendly and EVERY One of them thanked us for staying with them. They seemed to truly appreciate us choosing their hotel. Unfortunately, they're just getting back up to speed post Covid and the restaurant has not reopened. They do have a limited room service menu and the same items can be ordered in the bar. We did order breakfast and found it delicious. Wife ordered the avocado and toast with fried eggs. Avocado was plentiful, eggs were cooked just right. I had two scrambled with spinach and sausage and it was great. Service was timely and efficient. Finally, we had drinks in the bar before going to dinner and found the bartender to be friendly and he mixed great drinks. We stopped by after dinner and, having learned it was our anniversary during our first visit, comped us two nice glasses of J Sparkling. Just a great time all round.
