When booking this hotel it’s website brags about how pet friendly they are but in reality when you check-in they inform you that pets have to be with you at all times and cannot be left in the hotel room even in a crate. Meanwhile the policy that is sent to you after booking states that pets are allowed in the room alone if they are properly crated. My husband and I were in San Francisco with our two dogs that are under 10 pounds just for one night to celebrate New Year’s Eve. The dogs were only going to be unattended for approximately two hours in their crate. At check in the manager informed us that the information sent to us was incorrect and that no pets can be left unattended in the room but she was going to make an exception and allow us to leave our dogs in their crate in our room. She also informed us that if our dogs make the slightest noise they will be calling the pound so they can take our dogs!! I was so shocked and disgusted about this and worn all pet owners that this hotel is not pet friendly at all. Otherwise the room was clean but the walls are paper thin and all of the guests are playing extremely loud music and we were able to hear stomping and yelling and a bunch of other shenanigans. This was actually very surprising since according to the manager the guests value their peace and quiet which come to find out was a total lie. Security was also an issue since we had other guests try to enter our room at 2:30 in the morning please be cautious while staying here or just pick a better hotel.

We had to stay here as the week we were visiting San Francisco, there was a huge Oracle conference and all hotel rooms were exorbitantly expensive—many doubled or tripled their rates for the week of Sept 15-20th, 2019. The Motel 6 was more expensive than usual but thankfully, not over $500 a night as many other hotels were. The rooms here are basic but clean, well-maintained and spacious. The bathroom is small, but has a bathtub and toilet, though the sink is outside the bathroom. This can be advantageous when you are sharing the room as two people can get ready without one hogging the bathroom. The air conditioner is a BIG problem in all the rooms—it's mounted at waist level and blows air directly at one bed, so whoever is lying there will get the full force of the air blasts. And there is no adjustable louvre or grill, so the air will shoot straight out. Another big issue was that the electrical plugs in the room were all in bad condition—one plate was loose and coming out of the wall, and others were so old that they were very loose and plugs would literally just fall off after being inserted. The rooms don't come with irons or hairdryer, but these can be borrowed from the reception downstairs. However, the hairdryer we got was very old, weak and clogged with lint. They do not store luggage, so if you have some time after checking out and do not want to lug your bags with you, you will need to bring it to a nearby luggage storage facility and pay for storage. Staff are polite and helpful. Maid service is spotty as on some days, they did not clean the floors and did not leave bath mats. The location is a big drawback because it's in an area with a lot of homeless people and panhandlers. This is a big problem for San Francisco overall but there's a big concentration of homeless in this area, which borders the Tenderloin. But the hotel does a good job of keeping the premises well-lit, safe and secure. You need a key card to even enter the elevator and the area is kept clean.

This motel is a practical choice if you can tolerate a front row seat on America's urban decay and the large motel chains' methodical elimination of every amenity in order to maximize their profits. The room was clean and quiet--my own essential needs! Location was great, too (although walking in the late hours in that neighborhood would be a personal safety risk). Beyond those pluses, though, some irritating minuses: the heating / cooling unit control knob was broken and the Dish TV had no reception. The Wifi signal was weak and sloooooow. I had to ask for shampoo since the only soap provided was several little packets of hand soap, and the AM coffee stand opposite the front desk was the only available coffee and did not taste good at all. I had asked the PM desk clerk for a 7 AM wake-up call but didn't get it--good thing I had set my cell phone alarm. The PM desk clerk was friendly and responsive but the AM clerk was sullen. Perhaps if I were paid what I can imagine he's getting, though, I might not be Mr. Cheerful either. All this for a high three-figure charge for one night. Important historical note: "Motel 6" refers to a $6 night lodging, which is what they charged in the 1960s. A different twist on "Make America Great Again"?

Never in our wildest nightmares did we ever think we'd pay more than $200 for a night at a Motel 6 but arriving late in San Fransisco this was all we could find. In its favour there was parking included in an underground car park but having been warned not to leave any valuable in the vehicle overnight we guessed pretty quickly how sketchy the area is. In fact first time visitors to SF will be overwhelmed at how grungy the city has become with homelessnes, drug dealing and petty crime spiralling out of control. Our night's sleep was disturbed three times by the 'phone ringing with no-one answering at the other end and the noise of drunks crashing around outside. I know Motel 6 have upped their game along with the prices in some areas but clearly not in this property. You'd want to be really desperate, as we were, to stay here. And certainly at more than 200 bucks a night. A miserable experience.

Terrible neighbourhood. Room itself was OK but the cops had to break down the door next door to ours in the middle of the night due to a domestic. Awful. I would not recommend staying here unless you are super desperate and have no options. The hotel is pet friendly, that's a plus.
