Clean and quiet rooms! Friendly and Helpful staff. Beautiful lobby area! Right in the center of down town. Easy walk to may areas and transportation. Great city view from upper floors. Will definitely stay here again.
Great hotel near Union Square, charming room and lobby, kind and helpful staff. We were in town for a quick trip and the staff of the hotel and the actual space was welcoming and warm. Even with a challenge on our arrival, they quickly fixed what may have been our mistake and helped us get settled into a lovely room.
Clean hotel but located adjacent to a homeless encampment. Room is adequate and on the 14th floor it is relatively quiet. Adjacent restaurant, Jaspers, is terrible for breakfast. Steel cut oats were instant oats, pre sweetened! Loud music and a bar with football. Don’t go there!
For three nights I had no hot water , when I arrived on the 18th February, Saturday night , they put me on the 17th floor, the room was freezing , I requested a change of room. They changed my room , to a nicer room, but I had no hot water for 3 nights. The first time I reported it, the hot water took 17 minutes to warm up, not a normal shower system , after I reported it a number of times , they said they had sent a engineer to have a look. Things were not stable after this, hot water in the morning, but no hot water in the evening. The attitude of the manager of the front desk , she is clueless in customer service and customer relations, she would not like it if she had cold water for 3 days. She said I booked it through a third party, she made absolutely no effort to assist me with this, she is totally unsuitable for the job, she could of reached out to me in a more positive manner, even a member of staff, her colleagues were surprised, well not surprised at her behaviour, totally inappropriate. It’s a nice hotel from the outside and the staff do try and give good service, the restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner , but with sky high prices , a piece of toast 5 usd. Overall I’m extremely disappointed at this hotel and I’m the guest , I don’t like being lied to by this front office manager. I want to speak to the CEO, manager of the hotel because her attitude is totally unacceptable…
While Hotel Spero looks nice, it is a rip off. On top of your nightly fee, they charge a $29,99 daily "amenities" fee for crappy coffee and the privilege of using their wifi and workout room in the basement. In addition, you will have to pay $40 for parking per day as there is no parking and no validation at nearby garages. Their restaurant service was awful, food overpriced, and we were charged a mandatory 20% "service" fee on our bill. They bilk you coming and going! In addition, the bathroom was small--the sink and toilet really didn't fit and the toilet did not flush properly.
After reading all the reviews, I booked a 6 night stay at the Hotel and it couldn't have been more perfect. The Hotel is ideally located within walking distance of most places of interest in downtown SF. It has a lovely lobby when you enter and service is top notch, from check in to daily room maintenance. Strong tasty coffee is available every morning in the lobby along with water filling stations in the lobby and downstairs gym, which was spacious and well stocked with equipment! We stayed in one of the suites at the top and we enjoyed having the separate sitting/sleeping areas. Bathroom was roomy and well stocked. Very clean and up to date decor. Wifi was included during the stay and it was FAST with strong signals. The room was very quiet and the light blocking was excellent. Felt well rested getting up early each morning. There is no room service but there are many places to eat nearby, including in the Hotel itself, Jasper's Restaurant. They serve all day long and we found ourselves getting food from them often since it was excellent, from the great breakfasts to right sized lunches to the filling dinners. Don't want to eat in the restaurant? Just get it to go and eat in your room if you want. Lots of places to park if you are driving into the city, including Ace Parking which is immediately next to the hotel and the place we parked. Good rates and great location for Hotel Spero. Very nice and helpful employees there too! I will definitely be staying at Hotel Spero again when back in the city and I recommend it without hesitation. …
Great location, friendly staff, clean modern rooms. From the moment you arrive to the moment your leave the staff in reception are friendly helpful and great and recommending places to eat etc. I had one issue on the third day, when toilet was blocked, I reported to reception and went for breakfast on my return to the room, all had been taken care of. A special thanks to Kathryn and the gent (from Ivory Coast). The hotel driver and had some great stories on route to the airport!
This is our go-to hotel when visiting San Francisco. I am usually a Hilton guy (Lifetime Diamond) and of course the Hilton is right across the street from Hotel Spero. Now why would I stay at Hotel Spero when I get all the Diamond benefits at the Hilton? Personalized friendly service, I don't have to walk a mile to get to my room, free coffee in the morning, nice upgrades, spacious rooms, great towels and robes, alot of extras when requested, parking garage right next door...and did I say personalized friendly service? If you can deal with some homeless issues close by (never had a problem), its also very central and close to the BART system. Surprisingly quiet and relatively low street noise, even compared to the Hilton at the top floors. My wife pretty much changed my mind about Hotel Spero vs. the Hilton. Yeah, she was right!…
Over all, a very good option that is centrally located and has old San Francisco charm. I initially found my room a bit cold but the reception went out of the way to fix the issue and get me a warmer room. Restaurant downstairs is expensive for basic food, but has lots of good options and is great for breakfast.
We chose this spot for a couple nights in the city because we got a good deal. We were pleasantly surprised with how nice it was, the cleanliness, and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. He even upgraded our room free of charge to be nice. Nice having a restaurant/bar onsite too but a little pricey. Only real downside was no hotel parking.
