We made our yearly trek to the Nikko in mid October. Obviously with the pandemic, things were markedly different. Our first clue was landing at Oakland Airport, when we got off the plane it was like a ghost town. BART was less crowded, but there is a bit more riff/raff on the train than normal. When we arrived at the hotel, we entered through the garage, as the front entry was boarded up. Check in was easy as always and we had a wonderful room. They were very much in "Covid prevention" mode with only 2 people (unless same group) in the elevator, everyone was masked up. Rooms were impeccably clean and you let them know when you wanted housekeeping, and you had to be out of the room for them to take care of that. There were very few guests in the hotel and I think we had the whole floor to ourselves. The Imperial Club lounge is closed temporarily, and you could use the workout room for a nominal fee. The restaurant was closed Sun/Mon/Tues and open for dinner the other nights. It was very surreal to be in the restaurant with so few guests, but the food was outstanding as well as the service. Dominique was awesome. They do have a food truck and we were able to sample one of the items and it was also great. We look forward to our visit next year and hopefully the world will be back to a more normal state.

Plus - Friendly, helpful staff, immaculate rooms and lobby area, very comfortable beds, pillows, chairs & bathroom Minus - poor communication to customers about how to access the hotel, as there is only 1 unattended door that must be remotely unlocked, NO restaurant open and a poor/expensive dine in menu ... even the staff recommended Uber Eats, horrible room coffee :( To be fair - we came just after the protests and the entire area was still boarded up, so we'll have to give it a try again if/when we visit.

Over all, the services are average. If it is free drink service instead of $10 as described on card, I will make a time to visit bars. I recommend 500 mL water bottle instead of tinny water bottle at room.

Well kept place. Nice ambient. Nicely organized welcoming atmosphere room. Bathrooms are nice however very low water pressure. why do you hang new towels just on top of the toilet? Just move the hanger somewhere. there is a lot of space. Easy check-in and check out. Yes, it is in core location but the price is so high. Also, they charge amenity fee which is so high and not displayed (there is fine print when you book but amount not shown).

Dear nanthag99, Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel. I am happy to hear you enjoyed the atmosphere of the guest room and we truly appreciate you sharing your feedback with us. Similar to the other hotels in the San Francisco, a daily Amenity Fee was applied to your Final Bill. The Amenity Fee offers value for our guest's enjoyment: high speed Internet access, unlimited access to 10,000 square foot full-service fitness center and glass enclosed swimming pool, two bottles of water daily, $10 nightly food & beverage credit at our signature restaurant Anzu, Kanpai Lounge and Feinstein’s showroom. In addition there are great shopping discounts, and a unique in-room welcome gift. While we do our best to ensure that our visitors are informed of our Amenity Fee at the time of booking and on our website, we appreciate your comments and will share with our team to confirm we are accurately explaining the charge to avoid any confusion. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to welcome you back to Hotel Nikko San Francisco in the near future. Sincerely, Anna Marie Presutti, GM Hotel Nikko San Francisco
