This is not your typical hotel! Staying at The Red Vic is more like coming home to family and friends than checking into a hotel. We are a community that values collaboration, participation, and connections. We ask you to fill out a profile so we can share that information about what you're up to with other guests and residents, facilitating interactions and collaborations. This is a participatory space, and we hope it will be a platform for your creative projects and ideas. What do you want to create? The ground floor is a member-supported 3rd space for projects, gatherings, events and activities. There is a communal kitchen that is always fully stocked with food for everyone to use. Guests are also encouraged to attend or host an event.

During our visit in the fine Haight-Ashbury district, we saw the colourful building of the Red Victorian Bed and Breakfast, which is famous its beautifully themed rooms. Close to Red Victorian Bed and Breakfast, there were also fine colourful murals in Haight street!

Having read the reviews and looked at all the pics on TripAdvisor I knew this would be a bit of a magical, iconic place to stay and it didn't disappoint - especially for the price. Felt like exactly what I imagined it would feel like to stay on Haight. We loved staying here. The location is ideal. We managed to get to most of the city really easily from here. Haight St felt like it had multiple personalities depending on the time of day/ night - all of them very interesting. We loved coming back here after a full day exploring the city but also in the morning it was a delight to go out and grab breakfast. Really interesting and edgy. We sat in the lounge area one day and marvelled at all the incredible pieces of art and eclectic objects and I cannot tell you how many people looked in through the windows and tried to get inside.. because, well it just looks like a great place to be (and it IS)! There is an excellent check in and out policy- whereby it's very simple - you are given door codes for main door and bedrooms - didn't really see a soul, but got the impression that if you were to stick around long enough and be a bit more sociable (than us) you would meet some kind and interesting folk. The only time it got a bit hairy was when the main gate hadn't been closed properly and other people had got in who perhaps weren't meant to be there and were wandering the corridors (possibly lost). So maybe be aware the security isn't the best. Also - security wise it might have been good to have a safe of sorts to put your valuables in. The room was light and spacious - we stayed in Gigi's room and the bed was extremely comfortable and the bath/ shower was great. This room really didn't have that much outside noise at all. The cleanliness of the room was only slightly questionable as the ceiling fans were thick with dust - but other than that the bathroom was perfect and bed etc was great! That really was only a minor gripe. I think that this place may not be for everyone - but if you are a bit of a traveller and have a curious, open mind you will lap it up! Its something different and a million light years away from the offerings in the more touristy areas we saw (for us a good thing). Don't expect a TV etc.. instead maybe go out and enjoy yourself! Great place to stay - a real one off. It would be sad if you didn't experience it. Highly recommended.

需注意歷史建築無電梯設備且隔音較差 this hostel offers some private room options with private bathrooms. The location and the neighborhood is great and very vivid. A good collection of restaurant and interesting cute shops nearby. you can easily get to a lot of attractions within 15 min uber ride. Golden gate park within walkable distance. the common area is fantastic, there's a mini kitchen and a common fridge to use. you can store your luggage before and after check-in or check-out in the storage area. Everything is self-service there's no front dest, but everything is straightforward, all the information you need can be found in the confirmation email after reservation. I will definitely recommend this place

they rented me a dorm with 2 bunk beds for a insane price, i stayed there for a couple of weeks. i had to live with 3 guys in the room which didnt have a key. When i arrived and after i payed they didnt provide for the door code so i couldnt get in, they didnt provide the door code a couple of weaks later when they change it at night either. The mattress was full of dust mites, and the living room smelled of trash. they ambient there is crazy, they are not friendly at all. They present themselves as trying to build community but they are actually trying to destroy people's lives based on my experience on how emotionally and psicologically damaging they are. That Zarinah runs the place with her guy, the sell it like they are trying to be open but they don't want anyone to stay there for more than a few months. If you notice no one stays there for more than some months because they move the people out of the house from one day to the next. They rented one of the rooms to a abusive girl who was up until late at night talking nonsense on the hallway, so for example I could hear her saying "you lose" for hours in a loop repeating the same phrase over and over again, she would be hanging out in the house and telling that to everyone in the house. the people there were so stressed out that basically they were barking at each other. obviously they dont want a good life for you, me, the country or the world. it was an educating experience in the way i dont want to live or relate to people. Because I came with the idea of finding like minded people and i found a bunch of abusers that wouldnt stop harrassing for anything. But of course they needed me to show up and thats their excuse for them to do the horrible things that they do to people. The other scary part is that they are connected to a community of abusers in san francisco who operate in the same way throught airbnb and craigslist overcharging people and promising community. They even share your information between them to target you as a victim. I know one of the guys who attends those meetings about pretending to be open minded and stuff but he actually treats people badly. Is really sad that they operate with immunity because to catch them legally for what they do takes a lot of time and resources.

As other reviews point this place is a little wacky, some people might not like that but I loved it. I would recommend reading the website first to know what you are getting yourself into. There was plenty of community food in the fridge so I didn't have to worry about breakfast or snacks later in the day. There isn't really a staff but there are permanent residents that are always around to help. The bed was really comfy, especially for a hostel. I think the only suggestion I have is that it would be nice to have a place to lock up valuables like a laptop while you are away for the day, especially if you are in a shared room.

Located on Haight Street in the Haight Ashbury neighborhood, this bed and breakfast features uniquely decorated rooms. Some of the rooms don't have an in room bathroom and nor TV's. What you get instead is a lot of character. If you get a street facing room, be prepared for some street noise. On the bottom floor is a cafe that hosts some interesting people. Location is quite a distance from the downtown or Fishermans Wharf area. Its walking distance to Golden Gate Park.

I stayed at the Red Victorian for a few nights while visiting and absolutely loved the charming and eclectic feel! We stayed in Gigi's room and enjoyed great food in the neighbourhood. It's very close to the beautiful Golden Gate Park, and bus to the Beach. I would stay again! The bed was SOOOO comfortable! Highly recommend if you are looking for something a little bit different than the average Inn or corporate style hotel.

I was skeptical when we booked the Poster Room at the Red Victorian for our week long trip to SF. It was going to be 4 of us in one room (2 bunk beds), sharing bathrooms with a bunch of other people, in a hostel/ B&B unlike any I have ever seen. However, when we got there, I was completely won over. From the very first interaction, every person we talked to (residents as well as other guests) we're warm and welcoming. Dave, the coolest guy ever, showed us around the whole house and showed us to our room. It was way bigger than we thought it was going to be and the beds were very comfy. There was decent storage space and I think we had access to 5 bathrooms (4 with showers), and they were all kept clean and tidy, and the showers offered plentiful hot water! There are 5 communal dinners a week and lots of communal food, which was greatly appreciated as this trip was on a budget. We could usually count on The Red Victorian to feed us dinner and we would make our own breakfast (eggs, bacon, granola, cereal, juice, toast, peanut butter.. you name it!) The neighbourhood was close to everything and was overall a very interesting experience. I am so happy we got to stay at the Red Victorian, hope to come and stay again!

If you are looking for something more interesting than your average corporate fare this place place is it. You treated like a human being. All the rooms are differently themed I stayed in the English Garden Tea Room. I'll never forget and will always stay there if in San Fransisco again.
