Hotel des Arts is a 2 star hotel with a very unique atmosphere. For San Francisco it is very good value. The rooms are clean and have everything you need including good quality free wifi. Breakfast is part of the price and the staff are very friendly. It is located just across from the Lion Gate into China Town and... More

This hotel is in an excellent location for exploring San Francisco. Located on the doorstep of Chinatown and only a stones throw from union square. However the room did not quite live up to expectation. The "art" in our room could not really be called art (some of the rooms appear to be better). The room was clean but compact.... More

This place is quirky...well-situated and not for folks looking for the typical business stay. It was just three blocks from my conference and steps away from Chinatown. I *loved* the art but but see how perhaps it would't be for everyone. There was a bit of a snafu at my check-in that was quickly dealt with. Yes, this is an... More

My sister and I visited San Francisco and all in all USA for the first time. We chose Hotel des Arts because of its location and price. We stayed for 10 days and found that this little artsy hotel has some big plusses and minuses. Plusses: 1. Location - location in San Francisco is gold. When we chose this hotel,... More

Stayed here for a non-refundable 10 nights (yes, 10!) for a course with USF in the bay area plus extra days of touring. Reasonable price and decent location for downtown considering how expensive other hotels in the area are. Steps away from the entrance to China Town and a few minutes away from some nice restaurants and nightlife. The artwork... More

Booked this hotel based on price and location. The staff were outstanding for the whole week. But the noise at night from garbage collections and shower with little pressure were there every day/night. Breakfast was simple. Rooms art work was funky.

So I was a little nervous about booking this hotel at first. I read about shared bathrooms and crazy artwork on the walls and I thought, "well, I guess we'll just have to see!" And I am definitely glad I did! My husband and I stayed here for three nights while I was attending a conference and we had a... More

Amazing location in the heart of San Francisco, a ten-minute walk away from the very centre, but not too close to the hustle and bustle. Lovely interior, interesting rooms and a nice, tiny hotel for those who aren't too keen on faceless, huge hotel complexes. The pillows were fluffy, the room clean and the staff perfectly nice and very helpful.... More

We picked this hotel because if its location and price. Didn't realise that I had booked a room with shared bathroom facilities until 3 days before we arrived. Sent an email requesting a change of room. When we arrived (very early at 9am), the staff were aware and offered us a change of room 2 nights later (we have 7night... More

My Experience: I was doing a one-week externship at a tech company in the area and after literally WEEKS of searching, my friend came across this place. It looked nice in pictures and out of desperation, we made our reservations, planning to find a new hotel when we got there if we found it crappy (ie bed bugs, bad bathroom,... More
