We had a great visit with the accommodating staff and facilities at Pacific Tradewinds. We lodged in classic hostel conditions (shared room - dorm beds) and enjoyed a facility that was well-organized, comfortably appointed, filled with friendly travelers, and loaded with resources for local activities.

Tradewinds was exactly what I expected: a no-frills hostel for a great price in one of the most expensive cities on the planet. Not cool to have lug luggage up three flights of stairs, but the staff was friendly at check-in. My bed was fine, a top bunk in a room with three bunk beds. They didn't have a lock... More

Stayed there for one night and the host were vibrantly chill. Really liked the people and atmosphere. It was our first time staying at a hostel. Definitely would come back whenever we come back to San Francisco again.

Clean, good staff, good vibes. Lots of places to visit nearby. The Chinatown location is great. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly as were fellow travellers. Good value given rates in San Francisco.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the place generally had a chill, friendly vibe. Located in an awesome area that allows you to take transit anywhere or even walk to popular sites like the Fisherman's Wharf (as San Francisco isn't so big in the first place). My room was set up with bunkbeds in your usual hostel sardine... More

We stayed here for a few days in September last year while travelling the USA. Its a short walk from the train station and close by to China town. Check in was easy and staff are friendly! The rooms sleep 6 or 4 and beds are comfy! however there are no doors which might bother some people. There are showers... More

I loved my stay at Pacific Tradewinds. The staff were all so open and friendly, the hostel was clean and comfortable, and the location couldn't have been more perfect. I pretty much walked everywhere from there! One of the nicest hostels I've stayed in, and brilliant value for money.

The facilities are very well kept and the staff extremely helpful and pleasant! Had a chance to talk to several of the staff and got to know them as people and fellow travellers rather than just "staff"!

This was only my second time staying in a hostel, ever, and it was quite nice although I would have preferred a regular ol hotel if I had a choice (booked by my travel partner, not me). I will say that I was concerned about the location, having never really spent much time in chinatown, however it was a good... More

Nice hostel in an incredible position downtown, tucked between chinatown and the financial district, within walkable distance from the waterfront. Beds and linen are good, toilets are spotless, overall atmosphere is quite friendly.

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
