Nice hostel in an incredible position downtown, tucked between chinatown and the financial district, within walkable distance from the waterfront. Beds and linen are good, toilets are spotless, overall atmosphere is quite friendly.

Everyone at the hostel, staff and guests, were very nice and welcoming. People were willing to help you out, tell you how to get around or invite you to go explore the city together. Staff keep the common areas clean and the visitors during my stay seemed to keep their own areas/bunks clean as well. Everyone was aware of quiet... More

My experience at Pacific Tradewinds Hostel was nothing short of extraordinary. This was my first time at a hostel and they set the bar quite high. The hostel is clean and well kept and its location couldn't be any better. The best part is the social atmosphere which makes it easy to meet other travelers and make friends to explore... More

I'm not sure why every other review is so blazingly positive. This place is distinctly average. We went to two hostels in SF 5 minutes apart - this one was nowhere near as nice as the green tortoise - not sure of the price difference but an extra $20 or so would be worth moving. Be prepared for the climb,... More

The hostel was very welcoming and had a good mix of people from many different countries that checked in. The environment, host, areas, bathrooms were kept clean and well maintained. I didn't see any problems when it came to cleanliness and the check in process. The staff were helpful because of their friendly and positive attitudes in terms of explaining... More

Got the upper bed, but still it was nice... The staff is GREAT and I'm sure next time i'll be in S.F I'll stay there again. P.S they give you free ear plugs which became very useful the last two nights..

Had a great stay at this hostel. Everyone was really welcoming and when I called to say I was going to be late due to construction on the Bart the staff waited until I arrived before closing for the night. The hostel had a very friendly vibe with people hanging out I the common area every night I was there.... More

inexpensive and comfortable stay. Everything is professional and staff are kind and welcoming. Great for visiting SF, last but not least, awesome location, near to China town and close to everything. I definitely recommend it.

Really great location, walking distance to Chinatown and the bay. The staff were very friendly and inviting. I found the atmosphere relaxed and comfortable. One of the only affordable locations I came across in the Bay area, I would recommend this place to anyone!

I love Pacific Tradewinds! Everyone there is like one big happy family pushed together by the winds of the Pacific Trade... What a ~magical~ place. Clean too. Very clean. Also definitely the best budget-conscious bed in San Francisco. UUUuuuge bang for my buck, uuge.

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
