Came here for GDC for a week with a few friends and had a great time. The hostel truly felt like a home, and provided us with boundless comfort after long days at the expo. I'd like to give a shout out to Nikole on staff, who went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. Would definitely come back here next year for GDC :)

I stayed here for a work trip and to explore the city and couldn't have asked for a better experience! The staff and guests at Tradewinds are beyond amazing and are some of the warmest people I've ever met. The hostel location is perfect and puts you right next to amazing restaurants, fairy to Alcatraz, China town, Union Square, and so much more all in a short walk. Great bars nearby and even a stellar karaoke bar! Highly recommend this hostel!!

Warm and welcoming staff in a nice and affordable hostel, the best of my USA trip ! Nice common rooms and activities (like bbq on the rooftop, so great!) allowed me to meet travelers and feel the community spirit, really a plus! Thank you !

Spent seven nights in the only private room (meant for two) in the house. The property is accessible to Chinatown and downtown SF. Basic for sure and the ventilation fan whirs, but the place is never unsafe. While I did not manage to speak to everyone, Nicole, Angelo, and others are personable and make guests feel welcome. There are regular activities like BBQ, taco nights, outings, and more to help you meet everyone. Special shoutout to Sara, who is ever so positive with a smile and got me out of difficult situations multiple times when I locked myself out of the room and dropped my phone into a crevice between my bed and corner of the room!

This hostel has a great location in what feels like a safe area for solo women travelers (near Chinatown, North Beach/Coit Tower, public transportation), good company (fun talks with East Indians, African Europeans and Australians) and an outstanding staff person Nikole. I would give the location, other hostellers and Nikole 5 stars and the private hostel room 4 stars. At present, there seems to be only one? private room available on 3rd floor---5th floor is for staff only. I booked the private room 4 months ahead. The room was basic, included a flat screen TV, small fridge, desk, one bunkbed w/ lockers and was oh so restful after a full day. The 4th floor kitchen and lounge area was a comfortable space to meet others. Hostel provided clean towels, sheets and light comforter. Minor downside was a noisy fan in the wall that could not be turned off as the room was stuffy otherwise. Stairs to lobby/lounge area is on 4th floor and a good workout. Price for the private room was about twice that of a dorm room, but much less than a hotel. Staff Nikole was a pro: a practical problem-solver and personable, setting a great tone for my stay.…

How do I begin my review about Pacific Tradewinds? Everyone from the staff was always friendly and super helpful! I got the chance to meet two of the owners, Steve and Jimmy, and they’re amazing! Asd is an angel on Earth, for real. Angelo is extremely kind and always willing to help guests however we need. Nikole is fantastic and extremely fun and goes out of her way to MAKE SURE we have a great time while in San Francisco! She took us out and gave suggestions about places to go, and she’s just awesome! <3 The activities are always fun and the whole place feels like home. You can always see volunteers reaching out to guests who are by themselves and talking to them or inviting them to take part in the activities. (Shout out to Fuego, Grant, Andres, and Natalia – also Bruno and Robinson, who came from other locations) 😊 Regarding location and security, the hostel is close to bus/Muni stops and BART stations, which makes it super easy to get there, and it feels safe to get there after sunset (I’m a woman traveling alone), and there are two doors downstairs. Granted there are lots of stairs to climb, but since San Francisco is all about the hills, I think that’s feels right haha and the staff is great, they always offer us a glass of water after climbing the stairs for the first time, they know the stairs can be hard <3 It is hard to keep bathrooms and the kitchen clean when there are so many people living under the same roof (even if just for a couple of nights!), but this kick-ass team manages to do that while checking guests in and out, extending stays, changing bed lines, making us feel welcomed, and dealing with everything else that comes their way. I checked other places before booking this one, and honestly, I didn’t feel confident about any of them, so I feel like I couldn’t have got a better deal (stairs included haha). I loved this place so much that I extended my trip for one more week than I was supposed to stay, and I feel really upset that I had to go. Thank you so much for the hospitality, guys. I loved meeting each and every one of you, and I can’t wait to be back there. Love you!! <3…

The hostel was located near Chinatown and the Financial District. It was a very walkable neighborhood. Would have liked to stay longer as the staff was friendly and willing to give suggestions on areas of interest. I would stay at this hostel again.

My friend and I had only planned to stay here for 2 days, but after seeing how comfortable and how amazing the staff here is, we had to extend our stay here for 3 more days!!:) The entire place, kitchen, showers, restrooms, common room, and bed rooms were always very clean and tidy. You can really tell that the staff all love there jobs and they are very knowledgeable and happy to help you out if you need anything! BIG shout out to Nikole, She went above and beyond! She was incredibly kinda and has such a fun and happy energy to her. She got people on multiple occasions together to go out and do really amazing activities, She took us to Baker beach, some really fun bars, and even a club for some late night dancing! She really made my stay in San Francisco one that I will remember forever and definitely deserves a raise $$ :) 10/10 I highly recommend staying here and I know you will have an amazing time :)…

This was like the best decision I made for my trip to SF. All but one of the staff were very nice and helpful. (No elevators) so the stairs made for good exercise. Peanut Butter Jelly Sandwiches.... first time for me and it turns out to be the best way to make/eat delicious sandwiches. Meeting new people, art, fun, slapping a meal together.... I had a swell time and hope I can return some day.

If you're a frequent hosteller, you know they are hit-or-miss, especially in the US. This one is a hit. It's the only one I've yet stayed at in SF that actually has the same vibe as the coolest hostels I've stayed at in Europe and elsewhere. The only negatives I can think of are that it's quite a hike up the stairs to get to the reception and that the beds aren't the most comfortable I've ever had. On the other hand, the sheets are incredible, the breakfast is free, the location is superb, and the staff is so friendly and helpful. When we were there, there were lots of other international travelers too, rather than the itinerant locals that are more common in other places I've stayed in SF. All in all, a great experience.
