+ Good central location in downtown San Francisco - close to Market St and a Muni bus route runs directly next to it + Free breakfast (bagels, bagels, more bagels! ...and some orange juice [which was ridiculously tasty]) + Rooms and toilets were generally clean + Friendly staff + Internal sound proofing was good - once doors were shut it... Great hostel with even greater staff, all of them were really helpful. I couldn't make on it due to the blizzard but they change the reservation and give a refund. The only thing I didn't like was that there were almost any water in the shower (4 person bedroom).

Great base to explore, awesome customer service and local tips. Rooms were clean, comfy and well decorated. Only down side is the noise at night (homeless and sirens) but the hostel gives free ear plugs so you can't really hold it against them.

I frequently stay in hostels both abroad and domestically, and I must say this was hands down the nicest hostel I've stayed in. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the location is prime. The rooms were spacious, clean, and updated. I stayed in a four bed bunk with a private bath. I've never seen this offered in another hostel and... More

Spent 4 night here and we're extremely happy with this hostel. It was clean, had great amenities, friendly staff and comfortable rooms. It was quite noisy (not from noise made in the hostel, noise was from outside) but ear plugs were available from reception. Breakfast was provided, and although the kitchen was very busy, it was a great plus to... More

I stayed for three nights at HI Downtown in a private room. The room is spacious and service was impeccable - our room was cleaned two times each day. The staff is very friendly and ready to help with any questions we had, they also made sure everyone that entered the lobby was actually a guest at the hostel. Breakfast... More

Location of the hostel is excellent. Considering that hotels in this city is very expensive, staying here is a very good choice as its near Union square, Westfield, trams, shopping & Macys! Spent total of 8 nights here with 2 different rooms (4nights in SFO, flew to NYC & came back here for another 4nights). Booked queen room with ensuite.... More

This hostel was the best hostel I've ever been before. Very well organized staff and friendly! There's an elevator which is pretty cool and handy. The rooms are spacious and every bed has a lamplight (with LED), two USB Ports and a socket, that's so awesome. Under each bed is a locker which gives you the possibility to store your... More
