I am a longtime member and guest for over 40 years. It just keeps improving with frequent upgrades and updates. Within walking distance of the swankiest hotels of the city this place has the best prices in town. A great breakfast with a great view is a highlight as is the happy hour. Rooms are clean and adequate but not luxurious. Comfortable is the word for most rooms. There tends to be street noise early in the morning and parking is a half block away, Otherwise it is my favorite lodging in the heart of the city. The restaurant is also good for traditional American fare.
My college freshman daughter had never been to San Fran (I used to live there) and so we decided to take a chance and book (2 months ago) for this week. After booking, I had the absolute pleasure to speak with the GM, Sarge, about the hotel, possible upgrades, and the famous 3 resident bulldogs (it is, after all, a Marine Memorial Hotel). He was absolutely charming, answered all questions and suggested all sorts of awesome places in Chinatown. Last week I called him again in anticipation of our trip and he was so genuine withe me, telling e that Alcatraz was closed, indoor dining closed, bars closed, museums closed, etc. due to Covid. Although we had booked a non-refundable stay, he actually told me that he was going to cancel our booking at no charge/penalty and that he wanted to us to come back and visit when it was better/safer/more to do. That was such an amazingly kind gesture. He is the face of this hotel. He has been there for 17 years, he told me when we 1st spoke. And is former military. I can't speak any higher of the hotel and Sarge. I do know this - we WILL be visiting. And you couldn't pay me to book else. And we will be bringing bulldog treats :)…
I stayed here with a good friend while we visited San Francisco - an overnight trip. They have a beautiful lobby and the rooms are quaint and accommodating. The bar and restaurant at the rooftop is worth the price of meals and drinks, if you become a member select happy hour drinks are free. This hotel is conveniently located near other pubs and upscale restaurants. Enjoyed the stay but I recommend trying to find alternative parking arrangements - $44 a night!
I went to this hotel with my parents, the first thing that drew me here was the logo of bulldogs (absolutely in love with them) and found on my arrival the 3 mascots of the hotel were going for their walk! I spoke to some of the employees and they told me to come back at a certain time to be able to properly meet the 3 dogs and honestly made me feel so at home (As I had been missing my own back in Australia). The room was delightful and so roomy for the 3 of us, and the happy hour was incredible. I felt so at home here, and I don't think I would've had the same holiday experience without this incredible hotel. When I come back to San Francisco it will purely be to stay back at this hotel!!
Charming hotel withing walking distance of Powell street station and other public transport. Helpful, efficient staff in all areas. Bonus of a lovely restaurant and bar on the 12th floor with views over the rooftops. Very pretty at night especially if you can catch happy hour. Breakfast is buffet style with a good choice of food with the added bonus of a freshly cooked eggs: fried, scrambled or omelette. The Marines memorabilia throughout the hotel marks the hotel out as special interest
