When I checked in the young lady seemed friendly although really emphasised the “no parties” aspect even though I was on my own. I was on the third floor and had a huge case because I’d been travelling for three months. There’s no lift and was advised to take items out of my case and do multiple trips. I’m not carrying my clothes up three flights of stairs in portions. The stairway, corridor and hallways are dirty and have marks all on the walls (guessing from people hauling their case). I got to the room and it smelled BADLY of urine, after a check round the bathroom was dirty. Also not as bad of an issue but the windows are single pane and the street is extremely noisy, but usually I don’t mind this if it’s alone. The TV has near no signal with few channels and set to Spanish? I absolutely never complain and have never tried to leave a hotel without staying but I went down and said I’d like to leave and try somewhere else. I was told it was non refundable and could be shown a different room. She said the smell was the new furniture? But the furniture definitely didn’t look new and the smell was not furniture. Also, she was livid. Absolutely furious. The next rooms bathroom was at least clean so out of pure awkwardness of this girl being rude and refusing a refund I said it was fine. On leaving for dinner I said goodbye at the front desk and she ignored me. However, on staying there was another older lady on reception and a young boy who were both very pleasant and helpful. And they’re the reason the scoring isn’t lower than it is which I believe it should be.

When I arrived to the hotel to check in, a nice woman attented to me. I asked her about a friend who was going to visit me but he is not going to sleep, he was going to be helping me with job stuffs for a while. So, the woman whose initial is R, told me that it was okay, he just got to come inside and go upstairs to my room. A couple hours later, my friend called me and told me that the recepcionist was not allowing him to come up, and I had to go downstairs. The recepcionist was now a different woman (Asian and her initial is A) and she started to shout to me, saying that I cannot take visitors to my room, and I had to pick up my friend. She added that it is a policy of the hotel, which is not allowing visitors. She was very rude to me, in front of more customers, and also with my friend. After a couple of hours, I tried to ask for apologizes, but she laughed at me and my English (because I'm not fluently in English). Never again in that hotel!

My private bathroom 2 twin beds room had no chair nor a table unlike you see in the pictures on the website. Also, my room only had shower, no bathtub. I asked for a chair and a table, but the front said they don't have any. So, you may have to bring your own chair and table. Shower room is not large. So, it's a little difficult to move around when showering. Rooms facing Fell Street are very noisy from 3 lane busy car traffic. It's nice to be close to Alamo Park and there are some nice restaurants about 2 blocks from the hotel. You get what you paid for, but they should have chairs and a table. I have to sit on a bed when eating meals. Also, it can be cold at night. I had to ask for a heater because it was so cold I couldn't sleep.

I should have done more research on the area before booking. If you're looking for parking, quiet and comfort - look further. I ended up parking 5 blocks away, sleeping on a rock hard bed being kept awake by street traffic most of the night. While the price was very reasonable and the front desk person very nice I won't book again. Like I said - I should have done more research.

I truly enjoyed my stay here in mid-November, 2019, while attending a conference in downtown San Francisco. I selected Casa Loma as a budget option in a city of very expensive hotels. The hotel far exceeded my expectations. Roshni, one of the owners, was very helpful, a pleasure to talk to and provided exceptional customer service, including detailed advice on public transportation options to get me to and from my conference and the Oakland Airport. I loved my 3rd floor corner room with lots of light and great views. The bed was comfortable and room was pleasant and clean. The shared bathroom and shower were spotless. The hotel felt more akin to European pension than a budget hotel. Great coffee machine in the lobby and good inexpensive restaurants several blocks away. Located in walk-able neighborhood, convenient to multiple bus lines. About a 15 or 20 minute to downtown.
