The hotel is nice, in a quiet and residential area and close to the city center. Nothing luxurious but the room and bathroom are super clean, the bed is comfortable and the price is more than correct. There’s a nice park at 5 minutes walk in front of the Painted Ladies and a lot of bars and restaurants nearby

My partner and I just stayed a week at Casa Loma. I've stayed at similar concept budget hotels, and this one was far better than what you usually get for the price. It's clean, fairly quiet, and the location is convenient. Sharing bathrooms was not a problem as they are kept immaculately clean, and in a week I didn't wait for a shower once. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. I left my phone in an Uber and they helped me coordinate to get it back, definitely above and beyond! Sure the rooms are small, but if you're just planning on sleeping there you really won't find a better deal.

My experience corresponded with the pistive reviews written here about Casa Loma... The location is good, the staff is helpful and friendly, the rooms are clean, etc. It's a great value for the money, which is why I chose 5 stars for my review. Like the other reviews mentioned, I also appreciated the free coffee machine in the lobby. I'd like to recognize here the gentelman (partner/owner, from Indian origin/born in London: Thank you for advising us where to park our car for long term parking, so that it doesn't get towed in the morning (there is no hotel parking or street parking in San Francisco). Thank you also for advising us how to purchase city bus tickets and which app to download. Thank you for advising us where to find good restaurants nearby. I also enjoyed chatting with you regarding your planned visit to Doha for the world cup 2022! Thank you for the female staff who let me use her personal phone to call the rental company, since I had an international phone, etc. much appreciated. Thank you for another lady who gave us extensive advice on which are the best sites to see in San Francisco and how to reach them by bus. You were very patient and helpful.

Booked a spacious 14m2 queen room with a private bathroom but got dingy room with maybe 9m2 - could not get to the bed from one side as it was too near the wall but full of dirt on the floor. Very dirty floor and fabric chairs Broken blinds and a hole on the wall right by the pillow place where you breath whatever is inside (I've stuffed toilet paper but not OK). I got sick after 5 days sleeping and breathing all the dirt. Complained and showed it to the man in the evenings but he ignored. Bathroom clean. They only come and clean if you ask even if you are there a week,,, Fire exit by our room was blocked with all sorts of things (3rd floor) so a huge fire hazard as it's the only on that side Lady at the reception very nice a friendly/man in the evenings no so much. Otherwise it's in a great location, very central. Be aware of the street noise so take earplugs

Not sure I would classify this as a hotel. Perhaps more of a motel. We booked a private room with private bathroom. The first day the toilet got blocked and flooded the bathroom. I had to use tiles to try protect the carpet in the room. I phoned for assistance and within an hour the plumbers arrived. However we were instructed not to use the toilet to throw any toilet paper in and to use the communal toilet. So having a blocked toilet was not what we expected. There is free coffee in the morning and a mini fridge. At the end of the day you get what you pay for. The area is a bit noisy as well.

I knew this was a budget hotel, and finding a decent moderately-priced hotel in a good area of a large city is so difficult. My daughter had stayed here several times so we stayed for four nights very recently. As others have noted, it's older and pretty worn. But you get what you pay for. On the positive side, the location is fine. I prefer not to be in the middle of downtown and this hotel is not far from public transit and feels very safe to walk around, day and evening. The room and bathroom (we chose ensuite bath) were both very small, bare basic, very little space to unpack your things, but the bed was comfortable and my room had small bedside tables and good reading lights with outlets and USB ports handy (my daughter's room did not). However: apparently every room is different and not like those pictured on the website. During one stay, my daughter had a nice corner room; this time, we both had very small rooms--same price. The biggest negative for me was lack of temperature control. Heat came on and no way to turn it off, and no fan (and I do not like a hot bedroom at night). I thought about opening a window, but my room faced a busy street and was pretty noisy even with the windows closed. Also, be aware sound-proofing is poor if you have noisy neighbors. All in all, except for the temperature-control issue, I would probably stay here again (and hope for one of the better rooms, which seem to be totally by chance).

Stayed nine nights. Good location close to Alamo square. One of the cheapest lodgings in the area so unsurprisingly it is rather worn with small and not very clean rooms, no elevators, no breakfast. Staff is friendly and helpful.

The good: the bed was comfortable, lighting was adequate and enough towels, soap/shampoo. Was given a space heater (no heat). Free coffee in the morning by reception area. The bad: All the furniture (except for bed) needs to be replaced (cheap, worn or dirty), floor in room slanted. Tub should be reglazed. The fridge didn't work (asked for it to be replaced). Replaced fridge sort of worked and kept drinks at around 50 degrees. TV had <10 channels, sometimes there was no service. The ugly: Sheets were probably clean but spotted. Some areas of the room were quite dirty (window sill, window roller shades). Some walls could use painting and some patches were done with blue masking tape.

STAY AWAY!! If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The only positive is that check in was quick and easy. This place is so run down and so filthy, I cannot believe it has above a 1 star on any website. We checked in during the afternoon. First off the entire place smells absolutely terrible. The first impression of the room was that it was poorly maintained. There was patchy different colors of paint, tape on the walls, marker and grime all over the walls, and you could hear all movements around you. My fiancé did use the communal restroom and we found out that no soap was offered for hand washing anywhere. They were also out of the hand sanitizer and he notified the desk as we were leaving so they could refil it. The restrooms were nauseating. Dirty floors. dirty toilets. Every surface looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in I don’t even know how long. We were running late for an activity we prepaid for so we did not have time to discuss all our concerns with the desk. When we got back in the evening, there was no sanitizer refil. We also found stains and hair all over our bedsheets, along with a couple roaches. We ended up having to check out the next morning due to a family emergency, but we would have left regardless. This is not a good budget hotel. This is a place for 21 years olds too drunk to care about anything, and ever for that I would say it’s overpriced. If you don’t mind staying in filth and need something under $100, then this place is for you.

When I checked in the young lady seemed friendly although really emphasised the “no parties” aspect even though I was on my own. I was on the third floor and had a huge case because I’d been travelling for three months. There’s no lift and was advised to take items out of my case and do multiple trips. I’m not carrying my clothes up three flights of stairs in portions. The stairway, corridor and hallways are dirty and have marks all on the walls (guessing from people hauling their case). I got to the room and it smelled BADLY of urine, after a check round the bathroom was dirty. Also not as bad of an issue but the windows are single pane and the street is extremely noisy, but usually I don’t mind this if it’s alone. The TV has near no signal with few channels and set to Spanish? I absolutely never complain and have never tried to leave a hotel without staying but I went down and said I’d like to leave and try somewhere else. I was told it was non refundable and could be shown a different room. She said the smell was the new furniture? But the furniture definitely didn’t look new and the smell was not furniture. Also, she was livid. Absolutely furious. The next rooms bathroom was at least clean so out of pure awkwardness of this girl being rude and refusing a refund I said it was fine. On leaving for dinner I said goodbye at the front desk and she ignored me. However, on staying there was another older lady on reception and a young boy who were both very pleasant and helpful. And they’re the reason the scoring isn’t lower than it is which I believe it should be.
