We chose this hotel as part of a package deal with BA. The location is great, the view from the room and service staff (bell hop, cleaning team etc) we're lovely. There were definitely more cons than pros for this place. We requested a replenishment of tea, creamer and sugar which never arrived. We ordered a $7 croissant which took 45mins to arrive and even after the $6 delivery charge and 15% the bill was $24?! We sent that back. We asked the reception for some advice on a travel ticket, which was wrong. The first day we decided to try breakfast at the hotel, I strongly recommend finding somewhere else. It was almost $100 for 2 classic breakfasts (toast, egg, bacon or sausage) and some OJ, not worth the money AT ALL. When we gave our feedback on checkout, the front of house was dismissive, unapologetic and we are leaving feeling disappointed with that service. Such a shame …
Beautifully positioned against the SF skyline, stunning old fashioned hotel and clearly a historic landmark. We were booked into here by a company as part of a California fly drive. The rooms were ok, large and presumably meant to reflect the old opulence of the place. The restaurant prices were too much for us and we didn’t feel as though we would have felt welcome in the Top of the Mark bar. Too many conference/business types in this hotel. That’s clearly no fault of the hotel but travellers like us would have been more at home in a Hampton or something similar.
We stayed here as part of our honeymoon the hotel is in a great location as long as you’re fit and healthy enough to walk up ALL the hills as this hotel is the highest point in the city. We never enjoyed the food or drinks here as we found the prices ridiculously overpriced. We are also still waiting for our money back from the hold charge weeks later. Staff all lovely and friendly enough.
Building was very old, including rooms. The bathroom seemed to be updated, but that was it. There were no convenient outlets next to the bed. The hotel is also up on a steep hill so its not really walkable anywhere. The view was nice however. I did not use any of the hotel amenities.
The Mark Hopkins has been my go to hotel for more than 22 years. The Mark Hopkins has been the crown jewel of Nob Hill for nearly 96 years! Everyone from arrival to departure and all in between have always been so accommodating. Club Intercontinental is a special place as well for breakfast and cocktail hour with canapés. I can’t say enough about the level of service. Just superb!
Nothing mentioned when you make the booking…No room service…empty mini bar…not even a complementary bottle of water, and if you like to have a drink you must go yourself to the hotel restaurant because they don’t have people to activate the room service…and of course the only answer that you get is the COVID excuse!! The duty manager just say “apologies” but he have no interest at all to find a solution! I just check 20 times the logo outside to make sure I am at the intercontinental that his charging US300 p/night! Unbelievable!!!
This hotel was the final stop on our honeymoon and it was a lovely place to end our travels. It is a beautiful building in a very nice part of the city. We were given a discounted upgrade to a larger room with a spectacular view of the city and also two drinks vouchers for Top of the Mark. Housekeeping was excellent and so was room service breakfast. All staff were polite and helpful. On our last day we were kindly allowed a later 2pm checkout free of charge, which was so helpful as we had an evening flight home. There is a designated space directly outside the hotel for Uber pick ups which was really convenient. Just be mindful of the resort fees etc at check which aren’t necessarily clear when travelling from the UK!
Basically, we were very satisfied. I deliberately place only the weak points so that the hotel can improve. Somehow, the four stars do not fit the offer. Table tennis table in the lobby does not match the ambience. Questions about the tourist offer of SanFran are referred to the Internet. It does not have a tour desk. Breakfast is good quality. If you don't want such large portions, it's not possible to order just a single pancake or waffle. Either the whole portion or nothing. Great Job by Raffy: He took the cab order and exactly at the time Joyce from SF Limo Golden Sucess drove up. An absolutely sympathetic, good driver with a wonderful car. Absolutely recommended Picture: great view out of Room 1035
We stayed at the Mark Hopkins to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful, Al the doorman was so friendly and welcoming, as well as the manager who checked us in and upgraded us to a lovely corner suite. Bellman was very helpful and friendly as well. We had Champagne and appetizers at the Top of the Mark and received complementary desert and coffee. The room was extremely comfortable and clean with a beautiful view of the city and the bay. Housekeeping was excellent! Thank you to the wonderful staff for a very special stay for our anniversary!
We have visited this wonderful hotels annually until covid hit; this was the first return visit. The hotel is still the great grande Dame it has always been. The rooms are beautifully appointed; the beds very comfortable; the bathroom very acceptable. The staff could not have been nicer or more informative. Unfortunately we could only stay one night as we motored on to vineyards and redwoods. Look forward to next year!
