Traveled for Business so I am not sure about product vs price. Room was super comfortable. Staff were very attentive. Room was clean. I was on the 16th floor and views were amazing. There are a lot of Japanese, Chinese, and Korean restaurants in immediate walking distance.

I've stayed at the Hotel Kabuki twice. And twice, there were loud, all-night parties in a room either above or adjacent to mine. Both times, the stench of cigarette smoke constantly wafted into my room from smoking customers, even though this is supposed to be non-smoking hotel.

Dear Miles7, Thank you for your review and feedback. I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations during your last stay and the Front Desk Manager you spoke with during your last stay does not work with us anymore. We could have still taken cared of your stay however, we could not find your emails or voice mails during the past couple of weeks. Just like all hotels in California, our hotel is a non-smoking hotel and we enforce a very strict rule and a $250 fine if a guest is reported to have smoked inside their room. If your travels bring you back to San Francisco, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Paul Samuel Roa Hotel Manager

Rooms have extremely thin walls, windows, and doors, so you'll constantly hear noise from the busy street, neighboring rooms, and the hallway. Also, expect lots of extra charges to get added to your bill, like a $28/night "amenity fee" for stuff you didn't use (like borrowing a

Dear awkfx, Thank you for review. We are sorry that we did not meet your expectation during your stay with us but glad you enjoyed our bar. Yes indeed, we have the Guest Amenity Fee which is not part of the room rate. This is an additional fee that most hotels in the city charge to all guests. The $1.00 fee is a voluntary donation that can be taken out before check out... it is given to the Japantown Foundation to upkeep the neighborhood in this part of town. We wish you the joys of life. Hotel Kabuki was a great part of a decent trip to SF. The hotel was nicely situated in Japantown and near Fillmore St and so the nicer parts of SF were a walk away. the neighborhood was safe and panhandlers were not overwhelming the area (which is how downtown is). The hotel was

Dear Tyler P, Thank you once again for your 5 STAR RATING! So nice of you to describe how you feel about our Lobby Lounge/Bar area as how it gave you a "sense of place" inside the hotel and as well, outside.... with our neighborhood that is safe, engaging, experiential and friendly. Looking forward to your next visit.. be well and take care. Paul Samuel Roa Hotel Manager

On the plus: lovely lobby and friendly staff and it was clean. Surprised that a "deluxe king" means NO closet door (which dampened the visual zen) and NO bathroom door. Which along with limiting privacy (if you're with a companion) means that light completely drenches the

Dear Wordjourneys, Thank you for your review and despite your product dis-satisfaction you still gave us 5 STARS for SERVICE! Our guestroom were designed to have an open concept and we are aware that some guests are not enthused by it but a growing number of people have actually appreciated the design. For those who are not, we install a simple Noren --- a traditional Japanese curtain which provides privacy which is offered to guests upon request. Please let us know, during your guestroom booking, about this preference so we can install the Noren prior to your arrival. Safe travels and be well. Paul Samuel Roa Hotel Manager

You are absolutely correct. It is beyond my understanding that a hotel in the middle of an urban area pretends it is a "resort" with bicycles and a spa, and charge you a high fee each and every night. Their list of amenities are mostly items already covered in the cost of similar hotels in urban settings -- like free coffee and tea. Regulation is needed to force hotels to add this cost to their advertised Rates! Otherwise they are as bad as a discount airline.

In the room I had, the toliet was in its own room with a door. The shower was in the room with the sink with a glass door over to the right with no visible access to the main room area, but there was no door between the main room and the sink shower area.

I believe you could make the shower a sauna, however the room was so hot it was already like a sauna. I'm exagerating, however the shower was large and had a seat in it like you could make it a sauna.

I would definitely call. Depending on the location of your room, it could significantly impact your stay if renovations aren't complete. Ask where they are still renovating and ask to be placed on a different floor and at the opposite end of the work. Problems we encountered a few months ago included noise and an ant invasion. We requested to be moved and had few problems afterwards.
