If you have had enough of the standard hotels this is a quaint and refreshing place. Floral wallpaper, fire place in the room, good location, clean, basic complimentary continental breakfast, historic elevator - good grocery shopping and great neapolitan pizza place around the corner. Solid choice.
We absolutely adored the look and feel of the place and were totally charmed by its looks, but that faded after we got situated a little. The first thing we noticed was that with 2 suitcases and our carryons we needed all the chair and sofa space for the bags, that left us nowhere to actually sit, we were looking for a dresser or desk of some sort to set things on that would have given us a usable sitting area. Because of that, we had to sit in bed to watch TV, which is quite a ways across the room and very small. The next surprise came when the restaurant next door started their dinner service and we could hear the sound of glassware and even could hear some louder conversations as if we were sitting at the table, if there was AC so you could close the windows it would help a lot. The final thing that did it for us was the firmness of the beds, if you like an extra firm rock-solid bed this will be perfect, as for us we really didn't sleep much for 3 nights. The front desk folks were all top-notch and really saved the stay for us, they really know the city, had great recommendations and were so pleasant! Having the valet parking was wonderful and really helpful for us, I was worried about where we would have to park, but their valet is only a little higher than the cost for the self-park. The location of the hotel is perfect, with lots of things within walking distance, including some great places to eat. In all this place is a charmer, but has some flaws that could be easily remedied.…
My wife and I spent two nights at the White Swan during a short sightseeing visit to SF. I picked this hotel based on its TA ranking, room size, location and price. A relatively great value in an expensive city. Other reviews have described White Swan Inn as European style, which is apt. It has an unassuming exterior, small lobby, relatively narrow halls and older infrastructure ... all put together with tons of charm and comfort. We booked a larger room and it was very comfortable. We enjoyed the included continental breakfast - not a lavish buffet, but delicious. The location was great for our walking tours of the city - very close to Chinatown and Union Square. Last but not least, the front desk staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful - each person really seems to love helping his/her guests.…
The White Swan was recommended by a work colleague. My wife and I visited for a combination of work for me and a birthday celebration for her. We're so happy we stayed. The staff is super friendly and quick with recommendations, particularly Braulio and Joey at the front desk.
Nice, comfortable, European style hotel with super friendly staff. Love the fact that everything is included, mini bar, breakfast, coffee and tea all day, and a delightful wine reception every evening. Also like that they use very little paper and plastic.
We had a wonderful long weekend in San Francisco and stayed at the White Swan Inn. My wife found this boutique hotel and it was absolutely the right choice over choosing a chain hotel option. Great and comfortable room with fun decor. What a great location in the Union Square. Easy walking or transit to Fisherman's Warf, The Ferry Building, Coit Tower, The Mission District and more. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful! They provided an evening wine reception with snacks daily and a decent continental breakfast. All in all, a great experience!
There were a lot of flowers on the wallpaper and a lot of dots on the carpeting. I hoped we would like our room and we did! There was a large sitting area with a gas fireplace, a dressing table with sink and counter in addition to the full bath. And the service was superb. We arrived late, after restaurants were closed, and were looking for a nearby bar. Instead, the desk host brought complementary glasses of wine up to our room. We had an early departure when we left, and knowing that, there were boxed breakfasts waiting for us to take along. Even the sodas and water in the mini bar were complementary. We felt well cared for and will definitely stay here on our next trip to San Francisco.
We loved this fresh & charming old Inn. The breakfast and happy hour offerings were delightful and the staff is kind and professional. The whole place is filled with antiques. A few minor glitches were repaired in our suite immediately. Watch out— breakfast pastries are incredible!
Staying at the White Swan reminded me of a hotel room I had in Switzerland. It is definitely a different experience than the usual chain hotels. The room was quirky, but cozy. They don't have air conditioning, but we didn't need it. However, we did need the fireplace and electric heater provided. My room faced the street, but it was what I requested, a room with a view. Keep in mind that that also comes with a bit of street noise which didn't bother me. The breakfast was nice. It varied from morning to morning. The selections included an assortment of pastries, croissants, muffins, biscuits, yogurt, cereal, boiled eggs, fruit, coffee, and tea. The in room refrigerator was stocked with bottled water, diet and regular Coke, and flavored carbonated water. The room does not have a microwave, but the kitchen staff happily microwaved anything I asked. The room was nicely appointed. The bed was super comfortable and it was nice sitting in my room in front of the fireplace enjoying a glass of Merlot and snacks that are free to guests each evening from 5 to 7 p.m. The staff from the registration desk, to the kitchen staff to housekeeping were professional and friendly. I didn't hesitate to ask when I needed information. Two blocks over you can catch the cable car or you can walk to China Town, Union Square, or 555 California Street if you don't mind tackling a couple of steep hilly streets. You can even walk to Fisherman's Wharf. TIP(If you're going to be in San Francisco at least 3 days, download the MUNI app and get a one day or 3 day pass. Then you can hop on and off the cable cars, muni bus, and regular bus as often as you like. The app helps you plan your trips.) No issues with homeless people outside of the hotel or in areas further into Union Square. I can't wait to book again.…
Our experience at The White Swan was perfect! All of the staff was helpful, professional and always pleasant and friendly without being intrusive. The breakfast was so delicious and beautifully offered. The room was very clean, nicely decorated and very comfortable. Perfect, central location in the city. Certainly a great value. We are looking forward to going back and it can't be soon enough!
