After my fiancee and I got married on Friday at City Hall, we decided to come and stay at the Inn for our staycation in SF. My new husband was immediately enamored with the European old-world ambiance while being impressed at the modern-day security measures. The Inn is cozy but not overdone (as many B&B's are) and welcoming from the... More

We lucked out and were able to make a fairly last-minute reservation in this classy little B&B/boutique hotel in the heart of North Beach. Our room was comfortable, even luxurious, though a bit small. My husband and I slept like rocks even with the windows open on a Friday night (our room looked out on courtyards rather than the street).... More

I stayed in Room 15, the "tiny" room, and they don't lie, there's not a lot of room to maneuver, but it felt more cozy than cramped and the room was very clean and very comfortable. The location of the Inn is great, there are plenty of buses to take you to other parts of the City, or if you... More

the staff were quietly helpful, the room was a delight [number 9 looks into the top of a magnolia tree and out the the cathedral as well as up the hill to Coit Tower] and the Inn was perfectly located for my needs - a couple of criticisms would be the lack of in-room tea and coffee making facilities and... Thank You for your review, I just wanted to respond to your comments, we have a very high end wireless router with two access points so you need to connect to the strongest signal depending where you are in the Inn and you will receive a strong signal that way. We do not have coffee makers in the room but... More

We stayed at WSI for eleven nights in July. The location on Washington Square, right in the heart of Little Italy was perfect for seeing the best that San Francisco offers. If you are looking to avoid highrise hotels, anonymous staff and windows that dont open then the friendly, personal and quaint Washington Square Inn is for you! We stayed... More

We found the inn to be the perfect location and accommodations for our first trip to San Francisco. The owners, Maria and Dan and their staff were most accommodating and helped us with restaurant recommendations as well as sight seeing suggestions. Our interior room was comfortable, clean and cozy, and our breakfasts, along with late afternoon "wine and treats", were... More

We travel to San Francisco often and have tried several hotels - from the Union Square congestion to the SOMA grunge, but we keep coming back to the Washington Square Inn. The service is so friendly and accomodating (early breakfast if you need to be out early), taxis, dining recommendations. Some of the rooms are small, but all are clean... More

My partner and I had a terrific stay at the Inn. Our room was pretty and cozy and one of the quiet inner rooms... which we had requested in advance. Loved having breakfast brought to our room each morning, having a solid wifi connection, and loved the early evening buffet in the lobby where we met and connected with other... More

My husband and I stayed here for our 20th wedding anniversary. Loved the atmosphere as well as the wine and cheese/meats served every evening. Breakfast was nice as well - with the option to eat downstairs or have the food delivered to your room. Parking is a block down the street in a parking garage. Runs $25/day for in and... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
