The hotel was in North beach within walking distance To the Wharf and the shopping areas. Lombard street only two blocks away. Plenty of restaurants especially Italian and Chinese . Unfortunately the hotel had no lift and we were met by a steep stairs and we were on the second floor. The room was a bit dark and it was... More

Great location for exploring North Beach. We got an inside room to avoid the noise and activity of Columbus Avenue on the street side. We had a room on the second floor. Next time I would get a room on the third floor to avoid having people above us. We hiked up to Coit Tower and explored the crowds/activities and... More

San Francisco was the first stop on our west coast honeymoon tour, all of our other hotels were booked through our travel agent however for San Francisco we decided to book our own to save a bit of money. Hotel Boheme is conveniently located to explore San Francisco- a brisk 10 minute walk and you are at either Fisherman's Wharf... More

I spied this place from a lookout point in the area, while we were staying at the Hotel Vertigo, and was immediately taken in by its charm. My friend and I both mentioned how we'd like to stay there in the on a future trip. Flash forward a few months and we had the pleasure of doing so. The outside... More

Hubby and I just returned from the city by the bay. On our last stay, we fell in love with North Beach. This was our third trip to SF to celebrate our 20th anniversary (honeymooned here). We chose Hotel Boheme as our home base and were not disappointed. In the heart of little Italy, this location is perfect as it... More

In San Francisco for a wedding this location worked perfectly for us. Other reviews address the steps, no elevator and no lobby. Rooms are bigger than I expected after reading reviews - I'm 6'5" and a bit claustrophobic. In the heart of great restaurants and vibrant culture, this is a gem.

When uber first dropped us off at the hotel I was a little concerned. This hotel was built in the late 1890s it's been updated the rooms are very small but very clean and well-kept. It was right in the heart of everything we wanted to do in San Francisco. Little Italy and Chinatown fisherman's wharf were all within walking... More

While the Hotel and the rooms are small, the location is great and rooms are comfortable and clean. The hotel owner is pleasant, friendly and very helpful. The room rates are very reasonable the ambiance of North Beach and China Town are fantastic.

We stayed at Hotel Boheme in North Beach San Francisco back in September last year. After a long flight from Perth we were disappointed with the fact that there was no assistance to get to our room. Both my wife and I are in our mid to late 60s and having to drag two large suitcases up two very narrow... More

Love this hotel. We just spent 2 nights here for our 10 yr anniversary and we couldn't have chosen a better, more romantic hotel in the city. The building is from the 1880's, rooms are on the smaller side, but absolutely true to the historic era and very quaint. If you are looking for a modern hotel with modern/sterile 'touristy'... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
