It's a large open area where tourists and locals gather, watch cable cars and crowds go by, enjoy a snack, or plan their day of shopping and sightseeing, If feeling the pulsating energy of the city is on your agenda, Union Square is the place to soak it in.

Stayed 5 days during OOW2019. The hotel was covered in plastic due to a major renovation. In fact, the following day after check out, the hotel will close for a few months. It's an older hotel with older smaller rooms but plenty of charm. From the 5° you can hear the sirens of the first responders, as well as other urban sounds. Breakfast was great! Breakfast starts at 06:30. We did not have a chance drink at the bar. Wish we did, it’s beautiful and known for its good drinksand friendly bartenders.

The hotel is perfectly located. We walked to Fisherman’s Wharf at a leisurely pace through Chinatown and Little Italy. Was about 30 minutes of mostly flat area. The rooms were nicely decorated and well appointed. The walls are a little thin... but it wasn’t a problem for us. We loved the cocktail bar off the lobby! It was so fun to stop in after dinner for a drink before bed. It was packed and very vibrant. The best part of this hotel however was the concierge! She booked us into the best restaurant one our first night, even recommending where we should go before hand for a glass of wine to enjoy the waterfront. Then for the second night she said ‘leave it with me’ and booked us into this amazing place in Mission. She even recommended a walking tour of the area to view the street art. It was so nice not to have to figure out where to go. The concierge staff obviously knew the city, and made excellent recommendations. I am often skeptical about concierge recommendations as I wonder if they are getting referral fees, but I honestly think the staff do their research and know the city. All their recommendations, including which hop on/off bus to take were brilliant! We just booked it again for August with 3 other couples!

During my stay at the Clift, they were in the midst of a heavy makeover. The rooms are extremely dated. The nicest part of the hotel is its bar. There was heavy construction noise pretty early in the morning. I wouldn't stay here until they've completed their renovations.

Viited the Bar at the Clift on a recent business trip to SF. Apparently, the bar is made from just one redwood tree. Ask the bar staff to put the plasma on to display the portraits of the couples - who's eyes follow you around the room.

From the advertised pictures of the hotel it appears trendy and very pretty, but what they don't tell you is that the hotel is under major construction renovations. During the day there is a considerable amount of excessive noise that makes it difficult to conduct business or rest. The current interior is trendy and the staff were awesome, but the noise TERRIBLE!!
