Detailed Reviews
Just returned from the Cova Hotel in the tenderloin district of San Francisco, after reading other reviews regarding the number of down and outs living on the streets in the vinicty yes there were down and outs but didn’t worry me at all. I found the hotel to be very clean, excellent reception service from the young lady called Kim. The complimentary breakfast was a bonus, and very adequate for my needs, there was a daily free transfer bus to take you to Fisherman’s Wharf or Union Square and collect you please remember to book in advance the transfers with reception. Also you can book an airport transfer from the hotel reception at nearly half the price of a taxi, and very efficient, wouldn’t hesitate to book at this hotel again thank you.

As our taxi drove through area I was thinking to myself what the hell have I booked, why the hell did I chose this area?
Was met at reception by 2 very polite gentlemen, who booked us in very quickly and explained to us abit about area, about their free shuttle buses down to main tourist areas and about the airport shuttle we could book (which turned out to be 90% cheaper than taxi I had just paid for). The reception area was lovely and clean. Our room was bigger than expecting, clean and comfortable. Alittle noise from outside through the night but sure you would get that at any hotel in san fran. Bathroom was lovely too. Breakfast was also suprizely good, alot more choice than I was expecting for price we paid, was hot, cold, yoghurt, cereal, pastries, muffins something for everyone. Only issue we had was not very big for amount of guests, the 1st morning was fine but 2nd they struggled to find us a seat and we ended up sitting right by door where people would push past trying to get in and out, maybe a time slot booking system would be ideal for them. But all in all, was lovely hotel. Area abit daunting but my advice would be don't wonder about, make use of the free shuttles to union square.

Maid service didn’t clean the room very well, complimentary waters were never restocked (3 night stay) Coffee mugs were never replaced, so we had dirty mugs after the first night. Breakfast was very basic. Cost of parking was pretty steep, $95 for 3 nights.

We stayed at Cova for three nights (during President's Day weekend) and were disappointed with the overall stay. In regard to the positives the room was clean and comfortable (with the exception of not having a thermostat to adjust the temperature) and the continental breakfast had more options than expected. The location was also convenient to the places we wanted to visit. The negatives were primarily with the customer service and the poor communication regarding the shuttle. When we arrived to check in they had difficulty assigning us to a room, apparently due to some technical glitch. Instead of communicating this to us, the girl managing the front desk clicked away on the computer for about half an hour and avoided speaking with us or giving any updates while we stood in the lobby. It was like we weren't even there...we had to ask her to explain what was going on. Eventually we decided to go to dinner to give her extra time to figure it out, and after returning 1.5 hours later the issue still hadn't been resolved, and again we stood there with no updates or communication for another 30 minutes while 2 employees clicked away silently on the computer trying to figure it all out. It made us feel very uncomfortable to be ignored like that. They finally assigned us a room about 3 hours later than the time we initially hoped to check in. The other issue was the shuttle; it only ran on the last day we were there, and the other two days we asked for it and were told it was not running due to not having a driver...not sure why they didn't plan better system knowing it was a busy holiday weekend and many guests I'm sure were counting on the shuttle. Also, the way this was communicated by front desk staff was also poor; their tone in responding seemed like they were annoyed we were even asking about the shuttle. I would not stay here again, and would encourage others to look elsewhere.

I have been one Week in SF staying at the cova hotel
Staff is great, helpful. Breakfast very basic
Room are clean and confortable
The major MAJOR issue is the location and surrounding. It is located in tenderloin. ...the homeless area. Junkies, dealers.... you feel really unsafe. Impossible to come at night by foot even if it is located only at 10 min walk from union square.
Dozens of homeless sleeping , taking their dose on the sidewalk... complementary wine and free shuttle is not enough to forget the very bad location.
The city has really a big issue to solve. I was believing putting my life in danger if I was coming after sunset.

Staying at the Cova for the four nights was an eye opening experience : first the negative: the area is an eye opener due to the vast homeless people in and around the streets : turn the wrong way out of the hotel then you will see the homeless tented areas on the streets , really sad in this day . Now The Positives : lovely hotel clean comfortable, friendly helpful front desk staff , free shuttle bus ( need to book in advance ) lovely continental breakfast and the free wine of an evening was a great addition . The hotel is in a great location for visiting San Francisco, we walked most places even to fisherman’s wharf ( it’s a long walk but to see the views it well worth it ) would I stay again : of course I would .

We stayed here for one night. Room was just average. Bed was comfortable. No free parking on site. Bathroom was good size. No heater and A/C controlled by an on/off switch and fan was very loud. As with most other reviews the location could be better. Lots of homeless people every where. A little intimidating as the tend to be grouped together. Didn't go out at night because of this. Hotel offers free wine during happy hour which was very nice but don't expect any expensive wine (screw top). There so called bar was empty after the free drinls were up. Breakfast buffet was just average with mainly a continental feel. No hot food like eggs, bacon, and such. Wouldn't recommend this hotel just because of the area that it is in.

The rooms were ok, especially the bed was very ok. Room was very cold and it took couple of days for me to understand to leave the electronic heeter on for the day so that the room was warm in the evening. I couldnt leave the heeter on for the night because it was very nousy ! The other problem for me was that I coudnt buy coffee and the pop-up Bar was open only 3 hours. And every time the glasses run out in the Bar. Torally different issue was that the neigbourhood is the most dangerous in SFO ; streets full of drug addicts and homeless. Fortunately I was a part of big group and had company when I went outside the hotel walking. I absolutely don’t recommend this hotel if one is alone and used to go everywhere by himself.

Just got back from a great stay at the Cova hotel!! Staff were brillant throughout the hotel! Special mention to the Breakfast hosts that were very warm & Welcoming. Complimentary wine on the 8th floor was of a good standard! Rooms were clean and very spacious. Yes the Neighbourhood isn’t for the faint hearted but to be honest I didn’t have any problems walking down to Union Square/Market street from the hotel. Even at night it’s not as bad as some people have made out. Would definitely return to the Cova in the future!

This is a nice hotel but I didn’t feel
Safe around it. There are drugs exchanging and alcoholics in plain sight day or night and it’s a shame there has to be such a wealth gap between two blocks away where it’s like a different neighbourhood. Staff friendly and informative. Room ok. Breakfast minimal but ok.

Call the front desk, the staff is knowledgeable and extremely helpful. 415-771-3000
We had a decadent meal at Rusty's Southern, delicious and great service (just down the street from the hotel). We unfortunately didn't have time for Brenda's French Soul Food, but all the locals highly recommend it.
To walk would take about 45 minutes per Google maps. However keep in mind that SF is hilly when figuring your time. We chose to access cable cars and the buses to get around SF. Both of these options were very convenient around the tourist destinations. I am not sure about any hotel shuttle service bc we never used those for transportation.
