The Urban is an SRO hotel and is located in Union Square, a neighborhood in San Francisco, and is in a shopping district. Given the close proximity of popular landmarks, such as China Town Gate directly in front of the hotel and steps from the financial district. Mascone Center is a 10-minute walk, about 15-20 minutes NorthBeach, Pier 39 (1.3 mi) and Fisherman's Wharf (1.4 mi). Also nearby, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Warfield Theater are cultural highlights, and travelers looking to shop may want to visit Embarcadero Center. The Beat Museum and Children's Creativity Museum are also worth visiting. Guests love the hotel's central location.

Stayed for one night - a good central location. The room was very clean as was the shared bathroom facilities. The communal area is a nice touch with coffee/tea and seating and the team were very friendly. The fridge in the room was a bit noisy otherwise a great well run budget hotel. Also thanks to Tony (front desk) for going out of his way to show me the way to the subway - very helpful.

This a basic Hotel with very small rooms and not much in the way of amenities. The staff are friendly and there is a small tea/coffee area. However, it is a great location in town. Can walk to ballpark, Fisherman's Wharf and to city shops.

I just spent 5 nights at the Urban and loved my stay I spend a few months researching hotels as I had to keep the costs down and there seems to be allot of very cheap but dodgy hotels in SFO I came across the Urban hotel and ended up taking a punt on it, and glad I did! The rooms are very basic but along with the bathrooms are absolutely spotless and well maintained. The street noise can be loud so bring some ear plugs if that is going to bother you. The hotel has a brilliant location an easy walk to Market Street ( the main hub of the CBD ) Union Square and even Fisherman's Wharf is achievable. The Staff are wonderful, Very friendly and happy to answer questions. A great bonus is that they will store your bags if you have a late flight out. If your going to be out and about all day and just somewhere clean and basic to base yourself this hotel is perfect!

I stayed at Urban hotel for 11 days and couldn't have picked a better hotel for my first visit to San Francisco. The hotel is located next to the Chinatown gate and it is very easy to walk through Chinatown to Pier 39 and continue all the way along the beach to the Golden Gate etc. The shopping street Market street is just couple of blocks away, so are all the high end boutiques. Plenty of restaurants, coffee shops and bars to choose from. Also the tour bus company is just few blocks away if one is interested in taking a day trip to Carmel and Monterey. The hotel staff was friendly and welcoming. The hotel is very clean and there is fresh scent. The room attendants do amazing job. The shower and restroom are on the hall but there was never queue. They were also impeccable. I stayed in one person's room and it was spacious enough. The bed was comfortable. Even though the hotel is very centrally located it was quiet at least on the 3rd floor where I stayed. I liked the fact that there is refrigerator in the room so one could bring own sandwiches and beverages etc. to the room and watch tv while eating. They also have complimentary coffee, orange juice and popcorn at the common kitchen area in lobby.

I spent five nights at The Urban whilst attending a conference at the Moscone Center. The price was the main selling point as it was affordable and within walking distance of the conference center, downtown and the Ferry Building. The area felt reasonably safe for a woman travelling alone and there were a lot of really good restaurants nearby. The hotel itself was incredibly basic. The room was very small, and a full size fridge/freezer took up a large amount of room, as well as making quite a lot of noise. The WiFi was great however, the bathrooms were always clean, and I never had to queue to use the showers. Would stay again for convenience but wouldn't recommend spending a lot of time here!

Good location, near China town. Very clean shared bathrooms. No air conditioning although they had fans. Couldn’t sleep due to the heat. The reception staff looked bored and were unfriendly. Free tea, coffee, juice and popcorn

I stayed in The Urban for 2 weeks and it was a good choice. positive: The Urban is located perfectly in the city center next to the dragons gate. So the access to public transportation is very good: just a few meters down the hill is the market street, the artery of the city. The price was ok compared with other accomodations in SF. The Hotel is clean and in good condition. A plus is also the free and tasty coffee, water and popcorn. For self-supply you have a fridge in the room but there are also quite nice and affordable restaurants in Chinatown next to the hotel (not in the famous touristic street but some streets further.) Most of the stuff is friendly and helpful (especially Xiao from the front desk was extraordinary friendly and tried to help with whatever problem). negative: The rooms facing the streets are quite noisy from the traffic, the rooms facing the yard are noisy if you have a bathroom next to your room. You hear the airconditioning from the bath and the slamming doors until late in the night and very early in the morning. In general the walls are paper-thin. The rooms facing the yard are also heating up during the day and there is not much possibility to get some fresh air into the room neither. Good to know: There are only shared bathrooms. The rooms are quite small and dark. (That didn't bother me but might bother others.) There is free WLAN, which is not the fastest. But one floor down is a Starbucks. ;-) I personally liked to stay there despite the negative sites but I guess for people that are looking for some relaxing time it's not the right place.

The Urban is a neat little place, set above Starbucks. It's walkable from Powell Street BART station, although uphill. Please do not walk up via Stockton, as it's a huge upwalk as well as about 30 steps upwards when you come to the overpass at Bush - not desirable when pulling luggage. Much better to walk up via Grant Avenue and turn around at the corner. Overall Urban was clean with modern furniture and, with clean(ish) bathrooms and toilets. The room, though small, was comfortable with a bed, writing desk and a huge refrigerator. Coffee and tea is available in the pantry / seating area. There's a Starbucks directly downstairs, food in close proximity, and a Target 500 metres away on Bush and Sansome. Urban was quiet in itself, but since my room faced a street with the Triton Hotel restaurant (?) opposite that closed at 0100 hours. You can hear loud conversation as well as rubbish trucks in the early hours.

I had an opportunity to spend 3 nights in San Francisco on a budget. Trip advisor listed the Urban, so I thought I would try it. Very clean, 3 toilets and showers, one bath, down the hall on floors 2 and 3. Single twin with desk and chair, wardrobe and sink. Heat high or off. Window opened to street noise. Lobby has lounge with hot water, coffee, juice, vending machine. Mini market nearby. The lobby is one floor up from street, some rooms on that floor, two more Excellent location, across from dragon gate. Wi find worked fine. Staff friendly and helpful.
