Highly recommend Katmai Lodge, our family enjoyed every minute spent there. The staff was extremely polite & helpful. Come check it out and find out for yourself. You will not regret it!! Our family will definitely come back!!
This was my third trip to Katmai and once again, it was an excellent experience. 2020 and COVID-19 made the airline travel a bit of a challenge, but once I arrived it was well worth it. Katmai provided great service, as they had on my first two trips. Considering the impact of COVID on almost every business and supplier, I was truly amazed at how Katmai still managed to provide top-notch customer service . Each time I've been to Katami I meet interesting people from all over who share their love of nature and fishing. The staff makes you feel at home and welcomed and that they're truly happy that you came to Katmai. The rooms are comfortable and the food is good. The guides are great -- experienced, professional and friendly. They work hard to get you to where the fish are and help you learn how to fish or to improve your technique, whether it's casting a fly rod or using a spinning rod. Next year I'm bringing a group of 10 friends. Three of us have been to Katmai before and after hearing our experiences and seeing our pictures, seven more signed up for 2021. If you love fishing, comfortable quarters, good food, and the outdoors, go to Katmai.…
OK, I might be the only person to ever admit this, but I never even touched a fishing rod during my time at Katmai Lodge, and yet I still had the most "off-the-page, bucket-list-worthy, trip of a lifetime!" I was a "plus-one," and came more to be the "writer in residence," using the incredible beauty and the solitude of Alagnak River to work on a manuscript while my boyfriend fished. Because of my extra time at camp, the staff became my family (but the kind of family you WISHED you had-- and not the crazy kooks you have the misfortune to be related to :-) Each and every one of them went above and beyond to make our time memorable, and I will be forever grateful to them for taking me under their wings to make sure I had all that I needed during my time of solitude. The lodging is rustic and quaint, and with breathtaking views. Don't miss Brook's Falls, another bucket-list must-see, where you get an up close view of the bears. I did have the pleasure of going out in the boat on two of the days, and I may not know much about fish or fishing, but it was sheer joy for me to experience, second-hand, the excitement of it all! If you are looking for a treasured experience, Katmai Lodge will not disappoint.…
Haven’t been fishing in Alaska for 30 years. Just got back from an amazing week at Katmai lodge. Lodge was 1/3 full because of Covid, you couldn’t tell by their amazing staff and cooks. Don’t bother bringing waders or fly rods. They have G Loomis fly tackle and top of the line Simms waders and boots. We bought some of our own equipment being avid fisherman. Their stuff was pretty much better than the high end gear we brought up. Brooks Falls is a must too fly out along with fly fishing The Moraine Creek for Rainbows and lots of bear watching. Guides are amazing, know matter how good of a fisherman your are. They will coach you along and having catch the fish of a lifetime on your 1st day on the water. There were 3 other people in our group and this was some of their 3rd trip to Katmai. Great place, you have to visit!…
I spent seven amazing days here. I have stayed at several 5 star hotels that. could learn from them, Every staff interaction was amazing.. No need to pack gear, their well stocked equipment room has everything you need for a week of amazing fishing. Located on the Alaskan peninsula near the Bering Sea, the fishing was nothing short of remarkable. 100 fish days are possible, and the fish of a lifetime is almost certain. The guides were knowledgeable and did everything in their power to check off your bucket list fish. Be sure to book a fly out trip to The Moraine Creek, where many outdoor fishing adventures were filmed. This was perhaps the best single day of fishing I have ever experienced. A daylong adventure were we caught 20" trout all day. An added bonus, all of the guides are accomplished photographers and give you a photo journal thumb drive of your week when you leave. Every staff member at every encounter made me feel like family. I am not a foodie, but the food was awesome, from a hearty breakfast, shore lunch, (including salmon you caught that morning) to a chef prepared gourmet dinner. Even the evening hors d'oeuvres were top notch. I also had the opportunity to see wildlife daily, including brown bears, elk, moose, beavers, river otters, eagles and other birds of prey. If you go, be prepared to leave some of the electronics at home. Your cell phone will not work. They have Internet, but it is unreliable and slow. No matter, you will not miss it after a few hours. …
