Detailed Reviews
I was back at the Bass Cottage Inn after a 4 year hiatus. During that time, much has happened. First, there are new owners and, second, we have the COVID thing going on. This review is an update to my prior reviews.
I am happy to report that the Inn remains beautiful -- as beautiful as I remember from the past. The rooms are exquisite. The bedding exceedingly comfortable and the bathrooms large and well provided... all just like before (refer to my prior reviews). The new owner is very friendly as are his team maintaining the Inn and providing for the wonderful breakfast options.
Now, in this COVID world, there are some points to be made. The Inn does a great job maintaining as safe and secure and environment as possible. For the protection of the guests, the new default (here and elsewhere) is to stay out of your room unless you request inside service. Linens, towels and consumable are left outside the room daily and these are promptly replaced for the guests to bring into the room. There are a couple of cherished features which are on pause for now... the afternoon wine and cheese along with the afternoon/evening snacks and kitchen access. Once the crisis passes, I hope these traditions will return but their absence now is perfectly understandable and acceptable.
So, all in all, if you can get up to Bass Cottage this summer, DO IT! You will be rewarded with restaurants that are less crowded and compliant. Acadia is fully open and not as many tourists. It is perfect. I know the restaurants and merchants mourn the absence of cruise ships but, for those of us driving in, Bar Harbor is a wonderful haven for a few days or a week. Just DO IT!

You will not be disappointed staying with Eddy & Jill at the Ullikana Inn. Spectacular stay overall - we had such lovely conversations with the staff and they gave SUCH good advice on where to eat, etc! They provided genuine, old school hospitality and really looked after us to make sure we were comfortable for the duration of our stay.
You will feel like you are staying at a mini-mansion, the b&b is absolutely gorgeous and impeccably decorated, take note of the gorgeous framed glass barrier which is at the check in desk! Rooms are beautiful, we stayed in Room 7 which had a nice patio and beautiful bathroom! Everything was sanitized and clean (even the remotes were sanitized for us and kept in a bag!). We could tell they were going the extra mile to make sure they were doing everything they can to make guests feel comfortable staying there given the current circumstances. Also to be mentioned - the incredibly comfortable beds, you might have a hard time getting up in the morning!
The breakfasts were absolutely delicious (they are adaptable to any dietary needs you may have) and the location is unbeatable. They even have a complimentary wine & cheese hour in the evening (!!!!) It's a quiet area and we enjoyed strolling along the path nearby on the shorefront. Would not hesitate to stay here again when I return to Bar Harbor!

We just returned from our 3rd visit to the Ullikana and it did not disappoint. Our host, Eddie, was more than accommodating and sincerely went the extra mile to ensure our safety & comfort. Venturing out during this new time we live in, we were a bit reluctant but were confident with our surroundings the minute we arrived and were greeted by Eddie wearing his mask as we were wearing ours. This immediately put us at ease and we could then truly enjoy our stay. Our room, Jack Palmer, was impeccably clean and along with notifications of sanitizing efforts throughout our room. Even our evening "meet & greet" was socially acceptable with personal wine & cheese plates and ample spaced seating.
Visiting shops and restaurants in Bar Harbor also impressed us with the conscious efforts of other visitors and staff alike for healthy practices to keep all safe but still enjoy the area at large.
We wish we could have stayed longer & we will return again not only to spend some more time with our friend, Eddie, but to enjoy the luxury and comfort of the Ullikana and Bar Harbor. Our tanks are full again. Thank you Eddie and all your staff that made us feel so at home and welcome.

The Ullikana is a charming Inn with a very fine view of the harbor. The Inn is located just off the downtown center. It is situated in such a manner that very little noise carries over to the grounds. Driving to the Inn is a tad tricky. If you follow the Inn's directions you'll have no problem finding the lane that leads to the Inn. There is free parking adjacent to the Inn. The best part is the Ullikana is within walking distance of all that Bar Harbor has to offer.
The owner and staff of the Ullikana are courteous, helpful, and very pleasant. They are well versed in their duties and willing to share their experiences with the venues throughout Bar Harbor. Their assistance always proved helpful.
The rooms in the Inn are decorated to display a floral touch. Each guest room is named after a flower and the comfortable rooms are decorated to remind guests of the floral namesakes. We were fortunate to be able to reserve Room 1 (yes, they have numbers and names too). Our Room was named Molly and had a large bath, a good sized bedroom, and a nicely outfitted room for relaxing. Molly had a quite nice view of the harbor.
The Ullikana Inn is paired with the Bass Cottage. Breakfast is served at the Bass Cottage. The Chef constructed tasty options for breakfast each day. The head of the waitstaff trained her staff to be amiable and attentive at all times. On one occasion an appliance ceased working and the owner of the Inn rolled up has sleeves and kept the operation move along seamlessly.
There's a 5:00 p.m. social hour each evening with complementary wine and crudities served at the Bass Cottage. There is a baby grand piano available for any guest musicians to entertain the attendees.
All in all, The Ullikana Inn was a very welcome refuge from the varied activity beyond the Imm's landscaping.

The Ullikana was absolutely exceptional! We had never been to Bar Harbor before and we were extremely fortunate to find this location. We were a half block from Main Street and extremely close to the water. We were able to walk to everything in the main part of town!
We had 2 rooms in our reservation (Buttercup and Forget Me Not). Both rooms were extremely nice, well maintained, on the 2nd floor, and had water views/access to a balcony. Each night there was a wine/cheese hour, and each morning, breakfast was provided. Hannah and Barbara were extremely pleasant and provided excellent service, both during our stay, and in helping to plan before we arrived.
Everyone we came in contact with was exceptionally kind and strived to make our stay the best. Parking was right there in the front/side of the building and the location was very safe/secure. Without a doubt, we would absolutely recommend the Ullikana and would stay here again if we make another trip to this area!

The inn is a gem. Meticulously maintained and run by a kind gentleman and his staff. They were able to maintain COVID compliant safety standards with unflinching attention to detail and excellent guest services. The property is tucked away but right in town and had a view of the water. The rooms were spotless and well-appointed. The bathroom was spacious with windows, soft towels and Molton Brown bath products. The bed was crazy comfortable with fine linens and pillows. There was great AC for the hot daytime and the breeze from the ocean kept me comfortable on the quiet evenings. The common areas were clean and welcoming. Breakfast was included with my reservation and was delicious -- freshly baked pastries and friendly service. They really made every effort to make me feel comfortable and welcome. Truly a great American b&b experience.

We felt completely welcomed, even though we arrived late. Eddie was terrific, as was Jill, who served us breakfast, and still found time to give us a tour of their sister inn next door! The breakfast was also top-notch. The owners and staff observed necessary measures for cleanliness and safety, without making us feel "distanced". We will definitely be back, and recommend Bass Cottage to everyone.

What a beautiful, clean, comfortable place to stay! We stayed for 6 nights in The Library room. The Inn is owned and run by Eddie who is so friendly and accommodating. From booking to checkout..we felt well taken care of.
The location is perfect to be able to walk the shore path, walk in to town and drive a short distance to Acadia National Park.
The breakfasts were amazing, something different each morning and accommodating to any allergies or sensitivities.
We ate at Geddys,Salt and Steel and Havana and loved them all.
Just out of town is a roadside Lobster joint called Travelin Lobster that was really good for lobster rolls and whole lobster if you desire.
Lots of coffee shops and bakery items in town and The Deli has great sandwiches for a picnic lunch in Agamont Park overlooking the water right in town!!
Fresh homemade cookies await you every afternoon at the Inn and a lovely glass of wine and some cheese awaits your return from a busy day.
No complaints!! Hated to go!! See you next time!!

We stayed in the Salt and Pepper room for 7 nights following our engagement and it was absolutely perfect. I have never stayed in better accommodations: from the big, comfortable bed to the whirlpool tub, each amenity was excellent. It's clear that the staff and owner take great care and pay close attention to detail. The fresh-baked pastries and gourmet breakfasts every morning were utterly fantastic.
Bass Cottage Inn manages to be a quiet retreat amidst the bustle of Bar Harbor, just steps away from the shops and restaurants while simultaneously being intimate and cozy. The worst part of staying here was having to leave at the end of the trip!

One of the highlights of the season this year was spending time with you and your new fiancée. Being part of such a special moment in your life is an experience we won't soon forget. To know we met every expectation you had means a great deal to us, and we are eager to see you again - and to hear all about the wedding!

This is an upscale B&B, just off the main drag, but very quiet.
It is light and airy, with comfortable common areas, inside and out, a short walk to the waterfront, easy parking. Common fridge for guests to keep their stuff. Wine and cheese next door at the Bass Cottage Inn every early evening is very nice, and breakfast is good.
We were in the Sunflower Room, a “cozy” queen, with a dresser, closet and two chairs. Comfortable bed. A wide bay window makes the room very bright. The bathroom is tiny, but who cares. Lots of little amenities, high shelf for surface space, magnifying mirror, great shower. Fast wifi; a fair number of outlets. The clock said the wrong time; we couldn’t figure out how to set it right, so we unplugged it.
This brings me to the only fault I find with this lovely accommodation: staff – friendly though they may be – are not well trained. Housekeeping staff need a checklist: check under the bed (it really was unpleasant for us to find a sock of the prior guest – who knows how long it had been there – under the bed when we checked for our own loose things before we left); pick up the towels and trash we were instructed to leave outside the door (which stayed there for two days); make sure the clock is set to the right time. Same issue with breakfast service; the servers took orders and served seemingly at random. (The first morning we were among the first there at 8:00, but our order wasn’t taken until 8:30, by which time, people who’d arrived after us had already eaten and left.) This was stressful as we were concerned about getting parking at our preferred spot at Acadia, and 8:00 – the opening of breakfast is already late for hikers.
Still, the place looks very clean and seems to somehow run efficiently and pleasantly by the very congenial owner and by the manager, both of whom demonstrate their interest in know that guests are enjoying their stay.
Do you like good food? Though we’ve tried many places in Bar Harbor, sorry, we haven’t been very satisfied. We ate all three nights at Ciao, a walk-in small plates Italian place with simply exquisite food, great ambience and service. A one mile walk. (Do not trust Google maps on this.)
