The Black Friar Inn is an amazing place to stay in Bar Harbor. Close to local attractions and right near the water, this quaint little place includes a built-in restaurant and bar, making it extremely easy and convenient for those nights after nature hikes in Acadia. The owner, Tom, is very friendly, along with the staff: a talented and sassy...

In town for a conference. Stayed 3 nights in the conference hotel and wanted to try something else. Friar Tom's inn fit the ordre. Just a block off Market St, easy walking to everything. I didn't know it was also a B&B until we had checked in. Breakfast is great. Only two things I didn't like, the shower was a...

Tom was surely friendly and the breakfasts were good, but we've learned to expect some level of room cleaning, bed making, towel replacement, etc. at a B&B. We didn't get any of that here.

Management response:

when these guest check-in, i notified them that the extra key to the room had departed with the previous guest that morning and that if they would like their room tended to that i would need them to relinquish their key during the time the house keeper prepares the rooms. they responded to me that the room would not need...

My father and I were looking for somewhere interesting to stay on our visit to Bar Harbor last week, and we found the perfect place. Tom, the owner couldn't have been more helpful. The rooms were clean, with darling decor. They were quiet , well appointed, and a very reasonable price. The food in the pub was fantastic. Be sure...

We read several Trip Advisor reviews & decided on the Black Friar. The ownwer Tom, treated us like family & his tasty free large breakfasts were a great way to start the day. Everything was so relaxed & informal which makes this B&B's so enjoyable. When you come back in at nite the tavern's English pub is a great way...

My wife and I spent five nights with Friar Tom and his wonderful staff at the Black Friar Inn, from Sept 30 to Oct 5, 2010. We had an excellent time in a great inn, reminded the whole time of our experiences in English B&B's. We stayed in Room #1, with its king bed, copious space, fireplace, and porch (see...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Black Friar Inn and Pub is a hidden gem; once you find it we guarantee you will be back! Our three story building is mostly constructed from materials salvaged from the mansions that burned in the great fire of 1947. All of the finishing work in the Blackfriar was once part of the time when the steamboats greeted our shores and Bar Harbor was called Eden. Although there doesn't seem to be any new ghost here, you will occasionally feel residual energy coming from all around you. Especially if it's nighttime. And you're here. By yourself. Don't be frightened off, when you walk in our friendly and super accommodating staff is there to greet you, get you settled in and feeling at home. Chef Don does a superb job in our cozy kitchen whether you feel like a burger or a fine bottle of wine with a perfectly cooked steak. Jenny, Michelle, Taylor and Brittany are very capable barmaids with dynamite personalities and lots of specialty drinks to try. Fryer Tom is the heart of the Friar, the owner and innkeeper, he is laid back and has a wonderful hands-on approach to ownership. We are happy family here at the Blackfriar so come by, take a tour, grab a beer and let us make you feel like part of it! ... more   less
