If you want to get away from the tourist restaurants near the Bar Harbor marina and the hordes of cruise ship patrons, this is a great spot. It is a 10+ minute walk from the marina and down a less travelled side street. This is the epitome of non-touristy. In addition, the ambiance of the restaurant is hard to describe...

My husband and I visited Bar Harbor for our 3rd year in a row and we always stay and eat at the Black Frier. The location is great a quick 5 minute walk and you are in the busy downtown area. The breakfast is amazing better then any other B&B place we have ever stayed. We will continue to come...

Nice, clean room with free breakfast. Personable, friendly service. The breakfast was ordered off the menu, which is a nice feature. Quaint and clean. We really enjoyed our stay. Hosts are great. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms, but had plenty of room for two. The lighted stained glass on the wall is beautiful and you can turn...

We booked at this Inn because we had a hard time finding rooms here in the town. This was the last room for the 2 night stay. The room was the last room in a attic. Room was small, but we figured this. Bed was hard, which is not comfortable for me. I could live with this for 2 nights....

After circling around Bar Harbor looking for the Inn we finally happened upon it tucked down a woodsy path. The exterior charm of the place made us realize we had picked a unique place. The young lady who waited upon us was perfection in her job. Friendly and classy she saw to our needs promptly. The dining room with 5...

So let me say that the breakfast WAS delicious but that was the highpoint of our stay. We booked this based on the advertising and outstanding reviews for staff, food, etc. when we visited during the National Park Centennial Weekend in late August only to first see a man passed out on the back deck and then to find a...

Our stay was fantastic. We ate at several other restaurants in Bar Harbor before our stay at the Black Friar and nothing came close to the quality and flavor this place offers. The pub has a warm vibe, the people are friendly, the service is great but the food was just outstanding. We were sorry to leave and will definitely...

We booked 4 nights at Blackfriar after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor. All the good reviews are correct - perfect location, attention to detail, great price and fun place. We will definitely stay again when back in Bar Harbor. Friar Tom was so welcoming and we loved Brittany and Grace as servers and bartenders! This is the kind of...

I can't say enough good things about this place! I did a bit of research before picking this inn and I'm glad. I don't think we could have picked a better spot. This is a small inn (only (6) rooms) with a European vibe. The rooms are comfortable and the staff is awesome. These folks made us feel like we...

My wife and I found this quirky Inn while exploring Bar Harbor and are we glad we did. The owners/ staff make this place, the food is great the atmosphere is terrific and the decor is spot on, but the folks who run and work there are the best, they care and it shows. Do yourself a favor whilst visiting...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Black Friar Inn and Pub is a hidden gem; once you find it we guarantee you will be back! Our three story building is mostly constructed from materials salvaged from the mansions that burned in the great fire of 1947. All of the finishing work in the Blackfriar was once part of the time when the steamboats greeted our shores and Bar Harbor was called Eden. Although there doesn't seem to be any new ghost here, you will occasionally feel residual energy coming from all around you. Especially if it's nighttime. And you're here. By yourself. Don't be frightened off, when you walk in our friendly and super accommodating staff is there to greet you, get you settled in and feeling at home. Chef Don does a superb job in our cozy kitchen whether you feel like a burger or a fine bottle of wine with a perfectly cooked steak. Jenny, Michelle, Taylor and Brittany are very capable barmaids with dynamite personalities and lots of specialty drinks to try. Fryer Tom is the heart of the Friar, the owner and innkeeper, he is laid back and has a wonderful hands-on approach to ownership. We are happy family here at the Blackfriar so come by, take a tour, grab a beer and let us make you feel like part of it! ... more   less
