4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Stayed here on Friday - Sunday in August. Our room was clean and spacious. The Inn is very nice. The owner and two staff members were helpful and kind when we checked in. I loved the porch (inside and out) and appreciated all of the little touches including a handful of wonderful amenities on the indoor porch - shared refrigerator... More

We stayed at The Central House and were overjoyed with the entire experience. It is just off the main street in Bar Harbor and afforded us free parking so that we could enjoy Bar Harbor at our leisure by foot. The Bed & breakfast format afforded us a glimpse of what local cuisine was all about and I crave another... More

You know those museums that you go to and you get to look in the rooms of how people used to live in the 1800's, well this place is exactly just like that, except you have your own bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. We had a room on the 2nd floor facing the street. It was cool the weekend... More

Thanks so much for reviewing. It is true that not every place or every room is for everyone (we have many repeat guests for our front rooms.) Had we known there was bothersome street noise, we'd have been happy to turn on the central air. User-friendly heat pump minisplits, installed on the third floor for this season, are a hit;... More

My mother and I stayed at Central House for one night on a quick trip to Bar Harbor. The innkeeper couldn't have been more welcoming! She gave us an excellent recommendation for dinner and a binder in the room offered suggestions for breakfast. The inn is in the heart of Bar Harbor, close to the water, the shops and the... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay at The Central House. The building is darling, with a wide front porch for sitting in the ocean breeze. The location is perfect, we parked our car on Friday and didn't move it again until we left on Sunday. Walking distance to dozens of restaurants, shops, the waterfront and the park, where you can... Thank you so much for your review! (Replacement carpet's already been on order -- a matter of installer's schedule syncing with ours. We're also screening off the hearth -- stains are from soot, tracked in on kids' shoes, and can't shampoo out.) More

This place looked ok online, but once I arrived I was hugely disappointed! The home had good structure and bones but is in desperate need of a deep clean and upgrading. The carpets are dirty, the linens need to be replaced. If you are wanting a motel/holiday inn experience then this is for you.

Completely as advertised. Staff was friendly, the Inn has great character, and could not be in a better location. We were in town for only one night, but we will definitely stay here again. Plenty of available parking.

We were not sure about this place when we were booking, it looked interesting on photos but you never know. When we arrived we were amazed: this place definitely has a spirit. Especially the common area looks as if the old Victorian hosts were still living there. Decoration and furnishing with the highest attention to details. Located conveniently within a... More

Centrally located in downtown Bar Harbor, hence the name. Loved being able to walk to so many places. Across the street from a great cafe. Room were decorated with some interesting antiques. They were so helpful to me when I screwed up my reservation on the wrong date.

Many thanks for your review and for staying with us (and there are no guest "screw-ups", those are just situations that we are more than happy to accommodate whenever we can). More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Central House was built as a guest house in 1887. Tourism was just getting started in Bar Harbor. Much has changed since then and The Central House is now right down the street from many Bar Harbor shops, tours, restaurants, and the Island Explorer shuttle bus to Acadia National Park and Sand Beach. We offer Maine-roasted coffee and a selection of teas at 8 o'clock every morning. While we do not serve food, we provide a $10.00 gift card per room per day to lunch and dinner favorite Geddy's Restaurant facing the harbor. Our living room, front porch, and coffee area provide comfortable places to sit and enjoy your own food and drink and wireless internet is complementary throughout the house. Our rooms are simple and cozy with A/C, cable TV, and private bathrooms. Each room is uniquely furnished and decorated and many returning guests reserve their favorite rooms year after year. Rooms have a queen-sized bed, except Room 206 with a king-sized bed, and Room 204 has an extra twin-sized bed in addition to the four-posted queen to comfortably sleep three. We have been told by many guests that they find The Central House is a great value for the charm and ideal location. We hope to hear from you this season! ... more   less
