Stayed in the recently renovated Master Suite: a large, comfortable sleeping room with a luxuriously furnished sitting area that can be closed off from the bedroom. The sitting room is a solarium with views of Bar Island and Frenchman Bay. The large bath has a big soaking tub and a separate shower.
Our welcoming and knowledgeable hosts were at our service with lots of local information on the National Park, eating spots, and recreational activities. Their breakfasts are delicious and filling, providing plenty of fuel for our hiking and kayaking.

This wonderful B&B is in an ideal location - with a stunning view out back of the lake and yet well within walking distance of the waterfront and village green. Kristi's ricotta french toast was a delicious treat and the rooms were welcoming and cozy with fireplaces, views and neat spacious bathrooms. Thank you so much!!

Saltair Inn Waterfront B&B

My wife and I just returned from a marvelous stay at the Saltair Inn in Bar Harbor. We cannot compliment our wonderful hosts enough for a memorable stay. They were the essence of what is means to be great inn keepers. They are wonderful people who have finished successful careers and turned to inn keeping and made this inn the great experience it was.

Our room was the suite on the first floor. It had a large main room and a front room facing Frenchman's Bay with views of the water and its moods throughout the day.

The room has been modernized impressively. From the heated bathroom floors!!! to the dual shower (rainbird and conventional shower heads), lots of hot water, huge soaking tub/jacuzzi, and great lighting, to the ample electric outlets, two propane brings fireplaces, good wifi, a small fridge stocked with soft drinks, and coffee available throughout the day. Everything has been mentioned in other reviews here.

We give this inn 5 stars and hope to return one day. Plaudits to Kristin and Matt for showing a great work ethic.

SaltAir innkeepers Kristi & Matt gave us a wonderful stay at this beautiful bed and breakfast. My husband and I are big breakfast meal lovers, and they made absolutely delicious French toast lightly stuffed with wild local Maine blueberries one day, and equally delicious fluffy and perfectly naturally sweet blueberry pancakes with crispy bacon and fruit smoothie the next day! The inn was warm with friendly service and super helpful information about local things to do, places to eat, beautiful hikes (the innkeepers are outdoor people just like us) and other tidbits with a table in the dining room just for maps, routes, hiking trail books, etc...Our room and private bathroom was squeaky clean and the views from the backyard/porch were amazing! The bed and breakfast sits on the seaside facing Bar Island and on low tide, you can walk from the backyard, down the steps to the shore and stroll down the sandbar to the island, explore around and hike to the summit! (You might even spot some deer). When we come back to hike more of Acadia National Park, we will definitely come back to SaltAir Inn and recommend to our family and friends as well!

I have never left an online review for anything before but cannot wait to leave an overwhelmingly positive review for our recent stay at the Saltair Inn in Bar Harbor Maine. This was actually our second stay with them and we are looking forward to another visit. It was an absolutely wonderful experience and hope this helps you in deciding to stay with them in the future.

In August of last year my wife and I decided to visit Bar Harbor Maine and Acadia National Park for the first time. We are used to staying at hotels and began the usual search. We talked about trying a bed-and-breakfast for the first time. I was apprehensive at first but am very glad we did and certainly glad we chose the Saltair Inn. It was far better than anything I had imagined. We first looked at the map of Bar Harbor and wanted to find something close to the downtown area. It is extremely convenient and located within walking distance of the downtown shops and restaurants.

In addition, our two big criteria were that it was a waterfront location and the rooms had to have private bathrooms. The Saltair Inn met both.

The views of the water were spectacular from both our room and the deck where we ate breakfast each morning. The views of not only the water but of the infamous Bar Island where we could see the high and low tide change allowing people to walk across to the island at low tide couldn’t be better. Each room is beautifully unique with a very spacious private bathroom. Matt and Kristi have done a wonderful job in the design and layout of each room complimenting the age and character of the Inn. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious.

We felt very welcomed from first moment we arrived. Both Matt and Kristi were laid-back and accommodating and truly care about you and your stay. They were extremely helpful with any questions we might have had about the town, restaurant suggestions, the National Park or anything that would help make our stay the best it could be.

While the stay was wonderful, Kristi’s breakfasts were incredible. It was great waking up to the smell of breakfast being made each morning. Every day she had something new and exciting on the menu but was eager and willing to customize something special if you liked. I can’t wait for the recipes in her first edition of the Saltair Inn cookbook!

We just completed our second stay this October to see the fall colors. This time for 5 days. It was incredible and the experience this time at the Saltair Inn better than the first. We will definitely be back.

If you have a Bar Harbor stay on your list of things to do make sure you give Matt and Kristi a call. If you’ve never experienced a bed and breakfast stay you will be very glad you did. If you are looking for a quality bed and breakfast experience be sure to give the Salt Air Inn a try!

Ever since the first time my husband told me about this inn I have wanted to stay here. We made reservations for September 2020 as part of our 25th wedding anniversary trip. Then the pandemic messed up our plans. Innkeepers/owners Matt & Kristi could not have been more gracious & accommodating assisting us with changing our reservations to October. This is a historic house with plenty of charm, character and architectural features still intact. Everything was super clean and updated. I even saw when they were changing linens between guests, that the linens including the comforters/bedspreads came sealing in bags. We stayed in the Cadillac Suite for the beautiful water view. It was a pleasure to wake to it every morning. Our suite was decorated in ocean blue with 2 rooms (bedroom & sitting area) as well as a spacious bathroom. Definitely worth the price. Skylights in the bedroom ceiling allowed for watching star filled sky some nights as we drifted off the sleep. I kept the windows open at time to let the fresh sea air in. The Cadillac is on the 3rd floor (as is the Beehive Suite) & has to be accessed by narrow tiny stairs, possible once the servants quarters. Those stairs were not always fun to climb after a strenuous day of hiking. We had a small coffee lounge on our floor with a small refrigerator, convenient for keeping drinks & leftovers from meals out. We even ate pizza & salad there one evening. There are also complimentary drinks available in a area of the breakfast room along with beer for purchase. I did peek in other rooms when they were unoccupied & every room is amazing. The best room is the luxurious Master Suite in the 1st floor, but the Acadia & Harbor Suites on the 2nd floor are super nice too with access to a balcony at the back overlooking the water. Every breakfast is cooked fresh daily by Kristi & are creative and delicious. I picked up a few new ideas from her. Many mornings we were down early enough to sit at one of the tables by the window to watch people trekking across the sand bar to Bar Island. One day after we had hiked to the island, I sat outside on the porch gently rocking and enjoying the fresh air and beautiful peaceful view. I was so content, I called the feeling "Saltair Happy". Hosts Matt & Kristi are good folks, friendly & fun to talk to & helpful with tips about visiting as they have lived in Bar Harbor many years & are a key part of the community. We liked being further down West Street away from the main often crowded center of town, yet close enough to walk to almost everything in town. There are so many nice things that make staying here a joy. Book a stay and you'll be glad you did.

Just returned from seven nights at the Saltair Inn. What a lovely B&B right on the water, with terrific hosts. Kristi has some serious skills in the kitchen and made us 7 different fantastic breakfasts. I miss them already. Matt was always available during breakfast to see how we were doing and give us solid hiking and Bar Harbor area information. Someone was around most of the time for anything we needed.

The inn is a lovely old mansion, but it is the hosts and their seaside location and back yard/deck that set it apart from many other in town lodgings. Lovely view of the ocean and a sand bar you can walk across at low tide to reach Bar Island for a short hike with a view of Bar Harbor.

Matt and Kristi are taking the covid situation seriously and provide excellent social distancing and cleaning practices. They opened up their dining rooms and deck for take out dining any time of day.

All rooms appear to be very comfortable, but I highly recommend the Master Suite if it's available and in your price range. It's like having your own apartment with a luxurious new bathroom, 2 gas fireplaces and a sitting room with floor to ceiling windows to view the bay.

This was our first time staying at the Saltair Inn and we were not disappointed! We were greeted by the weekend manager Leigh who gave us a tour of the inn and its amenities as well as all of the info we needed to enjoy our stay. She recommended some activities and restaurants that were spot on for us. She could not have been nicer or more accommodating. We stayed in the Acadia Suite which has a shared balcony. The room is very spacious and has a two sided gas fireplace shared by the main bedroom and sitting room. The bathroom is very spacious and has a beautiful shower, a soaking tub and even it's own gas fireplace! The location of the inn is only a six minute walk from downtown Bar Harbor via sidewalks. The view from the rear of the inn is excellent as it has a long, well groomed lawn that extends to the bay and at low tide you take a three minute walk from the end of the lawn directly to the exposed bar that leads to Bar Island! Leigh's husband Matt was the chef when we were there and he made excellent breakfasts. He makes one specialty dish, banana bread stuffed French toast with local sausage our first morning and an Italian omelette with local bacon the second morning, both to die for! He will also make you any style eggs, local meat and toast if you prefer. They start you off with a fresh fruit cup and orange or cranberry juice before your meal. Fresh baked cookies are available as well as a selection of teas and fresh coffee each morning. You will find less expensive places to stay in Bar Harbor but you will not find one that is more friendly or accommodating than the Saltair Inn!

First of all, Matt and Kristi were awesome! Kristi is a great cook and in addition to delicious breakfasts, she baked yummy snacks for us in the afternoon's. Matt was full of information to help our stay in Bar Harbor a fun and memorable one. We stayed in the Beehive Suite which had views looking directly out to the water. The room also had a huge sitting and TV area if you are inclined to use a sitting area. There is so much to do in Bar Harbor that we had little time or desire to sit but the area was nice that we could store our suit cases etc away from the main bedroom. The Inn and our room was immaculately clean and we felt very comfortable to stay during these times of COVID 19. The Inn is large and very capable of providing distance between guests and Matt and Kristi have adhered to strict policies that adhere to CDC guidelines. I highly recommend this B&B!

This waterfront inn had an ideal location, we were able to walk to all the downtown restaurants and attractions. It was a last minutes trips, so we felt lucky to find this little slice of heaven. The inn is very quiet and that took a day or so to get use to..but the accommodations were very good. We were on the top floor in the Bee Hive, it was 32 stairs and up three floors. The upside is that the top floor is like an apartment, with a very comfortable bed, amazing AC, a sofa (old) area with a T.V. with modern cable. It was a newer updated room with an amazing view of the water. Before we arrived we informed the Inn of a gluten allergy, so it was disappointing when they did not have gf toast until the last day. Traveling with a gf allergy is always very difficult and having gf bread available would have been ideal. ***** This is a 5 Star all the way and we appreciated the amazing stay.
