I visited Bar Harbor with my significant other (30s) for a weekend in August. We had a wonderful stay at the Harborside hotel. Although the hotel was on the more expensive end for our taste, we were celebrating a special vacation. Prior to arrival, the hotel emailed and provided information for things to do and asked for any specific requests for our upcoming stay. On arrival, the front desk team alerted us that we had been given a random upgrade to one of their suites. This included private parking, semi-private jacuzzi, and a 2 BR unit. The room was beautiful. The front desk was extremely patient with our questions and provided terrific recommendations for places to eat and things to do (must try Beal's Lobster House!). All in all, we had a wonderful stay and were pleasantly surprised with the hospitality offered by the hotel. We look forward to staying there again on our next visit the Maine!

When we went in the bathroom in our room we were shocked to discover that there wasn't a light over the sink. Nothing. Unbelievable because it was really dark! At $500 a night that is totally unacceptable.

We had a great stay. Perfect location. Room was large and very comfortable. Pool location(s)/views rival the best in New England (Chatham Bars Inn, Wequasset, etc). Hotel was busy but didn’t feel crowded. We can’t wait to go back. As for other reviews, just have a little common sense when booking. For instance, an island view obviously isn’t a view of a specific island. It’s a view back towards the the actual island you’re staying on. Which is a wonderful place to be. Overall, have been very impressed with the Opal Collection experiences we have had so far.

Upon arrival my husband and I were very excited to to be in Bar Harbor and start our adventures to Acadia. When we got to the hotel we were upfront generally impressed with the look of the property, but that changed when we walked into our room. We had reserved a Deluxe King and were surprised to walk into a dark cave like room which essentially just had a bed a a tiny balcony. The room by no means commanded the rate asked for by the property. Upon talking to the front desk about potentially switching to a bigger room we were simply told they were sold out. Like other reviews have mentioned the hotel is on a great spot but but by no means is worth the money asked. The front desk personnel were less than helpful when asked and was confirmed when I asked about a cup of coffee just before the restaurant opened...the front desk lady said very snottily that the restaurant opened at 0630, not behavior I would expect at a place charging the rates it does. From cleanliness to customer service this was really no better than a two to three star property; not worth the money.

My Husband and I stayed at Harborside Hotel, Spa & Marina for our Honeymoon this past late July. I wish I could give this hotel a great review but seeing as this happened we cannot. We are very disappointed and what should have been a special unforgettable trip feels tarnished. When we were checking in, the front desk lady who helped us charged my card. We waited for a few minutes because she was seeming to have an issue that she was fixing. She said, “something went wrong can I see the card again.” Immediately I said, “will this card get charged twice?” She replied, “no.” Well I wish I didn’t trust her. Our stay was around 2,000. To be exact they were going to charge us for 1,000 upon check in and then the remaining 1,023.71 checking out. The day after we checked in I noticed an extra charge of 1,175.24 in addition to the 1,000. When I confronted the front desk, the man told me that he had heard of our reservation and the issue and that that money would be refunded to my account in 7-10 days. I tried to pry more because I didn’t understand what had happened in the first place. I showed him my statement of the additional random charge and he said, “yes exactly that will be reimbursed to you in 7-10 days.” When we checked out the day after I noticed an ADDITIONAL 755.64 charged to my card along with the amount that was correct. They had overcharged my account again, the additional charges totaling to about 2,000. I called the front desk and asked to speak with billing. I was put on hold for 30 minutes. I called the front desk again for billing, 45 minute wait this time. No answer. I had an appointment I had to go to so that call had to be postponed on my end. The next day I called the front desk, they transferred me to the front desk 3 times all a different person when I asked to speak to their billing department. Finally I hung up and called to speak with a manager. They were quick to respond when the front desk called for them. The manager pulled up my reservation and saw the correct charges to my account and no additional charges. She refused to believe that I had been overcharged from the hotel 2,000. She kept insisting, “we did not charge you for those amounts you are saying I do not see it here we cannot do anything about that.” When I told her about our predicament and what her staff had said she had nothing to say but, “I would get in touch with your bank.” That’s when I immediately called my bank and they filed an error report. The bank still hasn’t heard from the hotel and this has been processed for a week now. We are a newly married couple. Money is tight seeing as we just had our wedding in late July. We were very disappointed in not only this happening and 2,000 being taken out of our checking account, but how the staff handled the situation. This was very unprofessional and I will surely never be staying at this hotel ever again due to this issue. I would check your statements and be very careful staying here. When I asked the front desk why this had happened he had replied with, “this happens more that you’d think.”

Dear Kistnick, Want to note that the card initially used was declined after three attempts, you then used a debit card which did put a hold onto your funds, covering your stay and incidentals. The desk agents were being polite with their response so as to not embarrass that CC was declined.
