This was an absolutely, perfectly chill, experience. If you want a vacation where you have the option to relax in a cozy home away from home environment, exploring surroundings at your leisure, this is the sort of place you want.

You feel secluded, but also one of the family.

got the small 'sea breeze' cabin on a wooded hillside overlooking the cove, a bit rustic but clean and comfortable. well appointed with all needed amenities, run by a great family for decades. very reasonable rates for a high tourist area. this cabin has a very nice deck that was like a little piece of the park right outside the living room.

There are dozens of cramped cottages & cabins on the outskirts of Bar Harbor. Many of them are ok if you are under 4 feet tall & under 100 lbs. Emery, Bay Meadow, etc. Great for circus midgets.

Woodland Park is the real deal, 1 & 2 real bedroom cottages for adults & families. Real living rooms, real bedrooms & kitchens.

Beyond the decent size cottages, the property grounds are perfection. Heavily wooded, the cottages could be in a private part of Acadia. On a beautiful cove, you can walk onto the pier/float on clear nights & see the Milky Way, Big & Little Dippers. No need to join 1,000 tourists on Cadillac Mt.

Any trouble in paradise? Some cottages have been renovated, some not. Even the lovely Parrot doesn't have very good "fit & finish." Stairs to the 2nd floor seem home-made w/unfinished space btwn the floorboards and walls. Unrenovated Bay View has a bathroom sink tiiner than any airplane bathroom sink and an awkwardly high claw-foot bathtub surrounded by 2 shower curtains held together w/clothespins. And...kayak access to the cove is awkward.

None of these limits matter. Fabulous real woodlands. Good bbq grills at every cottage. Cordial owners.Fair prices. No reason to stay anywhere else.

One day into this wonderful place and we knew we had to get reservations for next year....we're back home in Pa. now and can't wait until next year, trying to figure a way to get back there again this summer! My husband and I have been going to Bar Harbor for years and love the whole Acadia/Mt.Desert Island/harbor towns atmosphere. We've always stayed at the same little motel, the usual, bedroom and bathroom in town. This year we just happened to stop in Woodland Park Cottages to see prices for next year, before we knew it, we were checking out of the place we've stayed for years and absolutely fell in love with this place! To go from a bedroom with bathroom typical motel, to a fully equipped cabin on the water with bedroom, bathroom, living room and kitchen with EVERYTHING you could possibly need AND a fabulous deck with chairs and picnic table overlooking the cove......it doesn't get any better than that! I told my husband I didn't want to write how great this place is due to being selfish and not wanting others to discover it....but hey, I GOT my reservations in already for the next trip! We were just blown away with this place, so quaint, quiet, charming, rustic and the peace and serenity that comes over you is undescribable sitting on the deck in the morning with your coffee or the evening with a glass of wine. The motels in town are great, but you wake up in the morning and need to vacate for the day because who wants to sit around a motel room? At the cabins, you have a hard time leaving to see the rest of the island because it's SO beautiful RIGHT THERE! And the fact that you can get kayaks and row boats, can fish off the private dock there, I could go on and on. One of the most special things I found though, was how special the owners are and how long they have been there. Great people, great history behind the place. We can't stop telling people about the place, it's exactly what we've always dreamed of and are so glad we stopped in that day, which turned into almost a week....we didn't want to leave. Their website doesn't do it justice (no offense), it is such a fabulous place and we feel fortunate to have found it. Very family friendly, nature freak fulfilling. Hope it never changes.....

This was the third annual trip that my wife and I have made to Woodland Park Cottages and we absolutely love the experience. Staying at Woodland Park is truly an experience - the cabins are rustic and cozy, you are right on the water with access to kayaks and fishing and wildlife, and you are minutes from beautiful Acadia and downtown Bar Harbor.

Wonderful place to stay. Cabins are well kept, clean, and comfortable. Owners are very friendly and helpful. Perfect location for access to Acadia, Mount Desert Island, and Bar Harbor. Quiet setting, cabins are spaced out nicely, all the guests staying there were friendly decent people. Great place for a vacation.

I can never say enough good things about Woodland Park.
Just got back from another great trip to Mt. Desert and as always stayed here.
Paul and Julie (the owners) are great people. And love the rustic cabins...that even though they are close to Bar Harbor and Acadia...let you feel a little seclusion.
They are on a nice cove. The kids always run right down to collect shells and rocks (just like I did as a kid) on the rocky beach.
The have a dock and you can rent kayaks to use in the cove. Paddle down to see the eagle nest (had babies this year). One night of our stay this year a large school of Mackerel came in (and we caught some right off the dock) and as we did the eagle came to catch the mackerel too! So, we got to watch it fish right there, as the sun was setting...can't get any better than that.
They have internet and TVs now too...happy about the internet (didn't need the TV...having too much fun).

Room Tip: Parrot is the least rustic (looks more like a house inside). Puka is best for a couple or person...

We stayed in one of the smallest and remote units the offered and still thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The owners are most gracious and friendly folks that make you feel welcome and comfortable immediately. The grounds are fun to explore. The dock and free row boats are great and the minor cost for renting a kayak to explore the bay and coast are a welcome departure from being gouged for extras at other places. The comically small TV and small kitchen appliances confirmed that this was not luxury cottage camping, but it offered everything we needed.

This is our sixth year staying at Woodland Park Cottages with our three children, so clearly we're big fans of this spot in Bar Harbor. The biggest draw is the beautiful cove with large dock and full access to row boats and kayaks. Paddling through the cove at low tide reveals a host of sea life, from star fish to sea urchins. The cove is also home to a family of bald eagles and is occasionally visited by harbor seals and loons. The Aloha cabin where we usually stay has a screen porch overlooking the cove, a large loft with 3 beds for the kids and two bedrooms for adults or older teens. The kitchen and bathroom are basic but stocked with all the necessities. The owners are very friendly and low key. They're always ready with good tips-- such as watching the 4th of july fireworks from the sand bar of bar harbor, favorite restaurants, hikes, etc. Just be sure to book early.

We stayed at the Seabreeze cottage for a week while visiting Acadia National Park. This was a great little cabin! Very basic accommodations and small bathroom, but very cozy and great views from the back deck. The cottages include a small kitchen with dishes, pots, pans, etc. There are some charcoal grills for guests to use. The owners are very friendly and helpful with recommendations on local attractions. The biggest pluses for these cottages is that they're set back a bit from the road, they're surrounded by trees and face the ocean so they feel secluded and private. Great place!
