Location was the best thing about the cottages. The unit I stayed in was old and could definitely use some updates especially in the kitchen. The unit the others in our party stayed in had issues with the AC. We paid for parking but it was doubtful others did. If you can back later in the evening there was no guarantee you had a spot even though you are given a specific spot.

My husband and I came and rented a place for 7 days staying at Cottage 5. My sisters rented Cottage 3 for the same time. The beach and location cannot be beat. Waimanolo is a great alternative to Waikiki and its close enough to Lanikai to enjoy that beach and Kailua also. The cottage layout is great during Covid times as you have your own entry and don’t have to get in an elevator, etc. But- you get what you pay for. The units are pretty old. It’s mostly aesthetics- but things from old drawers, old towel racks, to chips in the appliances- all add up. When we arrived- our unit was locked (unlike the checkin instructions) and we had to text for Tommy to let us in. Our unit must have not had a prior tenant because everything was boarded up and warm. We bought some groceries and noticed that the fridge wasn’t cool until the next day- likely from it being turned off before we arrived. One set of windows in our living room didn’t open and one set in our bedroom didn’t open. Our ceiling fan didn’t work and took 3-4 days before getting a new one installed. Testing out remotes, waiting for electrician, install, etc. We paid for parking and somebody took our spot one night. We communicated with the owners and parked in another slot- but then got yelled at by the maintenance person because he said we parked in an emergency zone- not marked at all- and we had permission to park there. Our toilet made noises and ran the whole time we were there. My side of the bed didn’t have a nightstand. Maybe nitpicking- but I had to set my glasses, water and phone on the ground. We didn’t have very good airflow in our unit- so we needed to have the AC running in order to feel cool. My sisters unit 3 had a nice cross breeze but they ran their AC and ceiling fans quite a bit also. In their unit- they only had two operating stove burners and their appliances were much older and chips in the appliances made it look like the surfaces were dirty. Maybe it was the slew of bad luck or maybe we are more resort people. Tommy and Carolyn were nice and responsive when needed- but the older units and amenities are something to consider when booking. We probably won’t book here again- but the beach is lovely here. I would just say look at the pics of the units and decide if you are ok with the amenities. Everybody has difference accommodation needs. We had a nice trip overall- but will probably try our luck at a hotel next time.

I used to live on Oahu and have visited multiple times since moving. Waimanalo Beach Cottages are always my go to! Tommy and Carolyn's Cottages are by far my favorite place to stay! Waimanalo Beach is one of the best on the island and is decently private. The cottages are just a short, barefoot walk from the beach. There are food/coffee places nearby and just a short drive from Honolulu. The cottages are perfectly equipped with everything you need, are very clean and quaint, and the property is very well maintained. We brought our baby the second time and felt perfectly safe staying here. If you're looking to experience the real island and not Waikiki, this is the place to do it!!

The owner was around which was nice. He greeted us and gave us helpful information about parking. The beds and pillows were in good shape. The walk to the beach was so easy. The kitchen had everything we needed.

Perfect location! We stayed five nights in cottage number five. The exterior of the cottages and parking lot are nicely manicured. Although the cottages are set very close together we felt it was very private and quiet. The jaunt to the beach is short and can be done with no shoes. We were delighted to see that there are two cats that man the front gate. They are not bothersome they stay to themselves yet if you want to pet them they love that too. I also must mention that there are pigeons. They are not bothersome at all! But they are always there, either on the roof of one of the cottages or in the center of the cottages milling around in the grass. There was never pigeon poop within the gates of the cottages, even in the grass! We also opted to rent one of the parking spots, which was well worth it, now here’s where the pigeon poop comes in. Our rental car had daily pigeon droppings on the hood. The cottage, our bed was beyond comfortable and the pillows were fantastic. The cottage is definitely dated including all of the utensils, toaster, coffee pot, knives and cutting board but everything worked. The couch was comfortable, and could accommodate three adults. The TV was large and updated although we didn’t use it much, it was nice for settling down at night. If you are looking for a safe secure cottage right on the beach, one that you don’t have to fret over if you bring in a little sand, and gracious caretakers that want your stay to be wonderful, then this is your place.
