I rented through VRBO and had a 6th floor villa, oceanfront view (Beach Tower). The villa was near Aulani Disney Resort but we were not bothered by any noise from there whatsoever. Villa had 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a full kitchen with a Subzero...More
Know what you want...if you want to be in the hustle and bustle...stay in Honolulu/Waikiki. This place is quieter. Relaxing. And it's not a Turtle Bay type of hotel setting with on-site restaurants.

We used Homeaway and found this amazing condo outside of Honolulu. It was stocked with everything we needed including beach chairs and snorkeling gear. The property was amazing with 2 pools and beach access plus a poolside bar. Highly recommend staying here.
While debating the merits of a Dinsey Aulani trip, we stumbled upon this apartment complex that is one lagoon over from the one shared by Four Season and Disney. The apartment was beautifully appointed, and had everything we needed for great days down at the...More

I haven't snorkeled there in a couple of years but my neighbor goes to Lagoon 2 in front of building almost every day to swim and snorkel and he says Lagoon 2 is the best place. Apparently there is a turtle that visits the that lagoon on a fairly regular basis.

I don’t have advice on cab as we always rent car because we tend to take a day or two to drive around island however as for the beach umbrellas, if you are staying at KoOlina Beach Villas, they had palapa style umbrellas (first come first served). I don’t believe you are allowed to put up an umbrella at the beach lagoons. That said, we usually set down our towels and chairs on the grassy lawn as there is lots of shade and less messy than sand (grassy area is not far to water just a few more yards)
