We (my husband & myself) spent the last 3 days of our 15 day honeymoon/trip to Big Island and Maui at this airbnb. We enjoyed the property itself including our outdoor terrace and firepit. We stayed in the Hoku Room which we enjoyed. The highlight for us was the beach chairs and umbrella which we utilized greatly. We also enjoyed the gas grill and cooked our own dinner two nights in a row. Things We thought could be improved on: We found charging $6 for one load of laundry was a bit cheeky considering we just came from another airbnb (across the island) that provided a free washer/dry and even laundry soap for us. There was also no shampoo or conditioner provided. We also had trouble using the hottub which with some help from the host got semi-hot after about 2 hours of going back and forth checking to make sure it was heating. We also asked at one point to use the oven and were told by the staff member yes and then by another no. Breakfast smoothies were good but you were only given one option. There was no hot food. Only breads, fruit, muffins, cookies, coffee, milk, juice. Lastly, some of the other guests didn't get the hint when we said we were on our honeymoon and sat with us almost every meal. Not the most romantic. I was also at one point mistaken for a staff member by another guest... lol The property owner was very nice but we won't be back as it wasn't as private as we hoped.

North Shore Lookout is truly a special bed and breakfast. The property is amazing with spacious, comfortable, and stylish rooms, a fantastic pool and garden area, and breath-taking views. Its location up in the mountains is a major draw. The views, especially sunsets, are unbelievable and it is particularly fun when you are in, or above, the clouds. We found the location, away from more major tourist areas, to be a huge benefit. It had a more authentic, relaxed feel. However, you are an easy 15-30 minute drive from many great restaurants, activities, and beaches (they even provide you with beach chairs, towels, and snorkeling gear!). Also, if you like hiking, there are some great areas very close to the B&B. Finally, a word has to be said about the lovely family who runs this special property. They are the definition of great hosts. Friendly and accommodating while understanding that no one wants to feel like people are "hovering" around them. The breakfasts were outstanding (great fruit selection, delicious coffee, and they very kindly made sure my wife, who is gluten free, always had some kind of bread or pastry). Be sure to ask to be introduced to the farm animals (horse, pig, chickens) who are sweet and hilarious. I cannot recommend North Shore Lookout enough. Do yourself a favor a stay here, not at some big resort.

I traveled with my family to Maui in November and we stayed 11 nights in a very nice home in Lahaina that we all liked very much. I wanted to stay a full two weeks so I could travel non-stop between Washington Dulles and Honolulu. I thought about taking a hop to the Island of Hawai'i or spending three nights at the Royal Hawaiian in Honolulu. Instead I decided to remain on Maui and look upcountry. I found "North Shore Lookout". I only wish I'd have stayed there longer. My room was the least expensive room and I was not disappointed. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. The room also had a love seat, coffee table, microwave, coffee pot, dishes, flatware, TV, and an alarm clock. The bathroom was lovely with a very nice walk-in shower with plenty of hot water. Everything was as lovely as the website photos. The setting was perfect and I spent many hours outside enjoying the beautiful views. There are many sites to see and experience within a short drive - Pia, Maui Wine, the botanical gardens, Surfing Goat Farm (great cheese and soaps). Many interesting and very good restaurants within a short drive. Shannan and Josh are kind and gracious hosts. I do plan to take another trip to Hawaii and will find a way to stay at North Shore Lookout again. My only regret was that I couldn't stay longer on this trip.

My husband and I spent 5 nights at the North Shore Lookout in October/November. Our stay was wonderful from beginning to end. Our room was great-spacious, well-appointed and super clean. There are 5 rooms to choose from and all offer privacy and quiet. Ours was considered the “small” room of the 5 and it was plenty big with room to spare. The views from everywhere on the property are amazing-you can see the ocean and mountains in the distance as well as the beautiful landscape of upcountry Maui. We would sit out in the evenings and watch the sunset with a glass of wine and marvel at the beauty and peace. The breakfasts were great and there were plenty of tables out on the patio area for anyone who wanted to have breakfast outside. The pool and hot tub were a great way to relax after a day of hiking, driving, snorkeling or ...Shannan and Josh are gracious hosts and are happy to share their knowledge of the area with their guests. If you are looking for a quiet, beautiful place to get away this is the place. It’s away from the touristy areas of Maui, which is what we prefer, but you can get anywhere in a car. There are great places to eat in Makawao and Paia if you want to stay nearby for dinner.

North Shore Lookout was perfect for our recent vacation to Maui! We stayed 8 nights in the Hoku suite and couldn’t have been more pleased. First, the location was spot on. Away from crowds, quiet, beautiful view, and beautiful grounds - it was exactly what we needed for our getaway. It’s also equal distance to most things on the island including Haleakalā and Lahaina, not to mention you’re basically staying at the start of the Road to Hana. Next, Shannon, Josh and Erin were so accommodating and helpful! They were available if we needed them but allowed us space if we wanted that, too. They were so gracious when we told them we broke their beach umbrella and told us not to worry about it (we replaced it anyway)! The breakfast was great each morning! There was a variety of pastries, fresh fruit, and protein (try the salmon - trust me!) and the smoothies were awesome each time! The room itself was so beautiful and clean with all the things we needed to make our stay comfortable including filtered water and a coffee pot (necessary for my husband and myself). We had the largest outdoor space with two patios and a hammock. We LOVED our outdoor space after a long day of activities throughout the island. Overall, this was an amazing place to just get away from the noise and crowdedness of the resort areas at the end of the day and we would highly recommend it to anyone who asks! Hopefully, we will be back again!
