Racism with video proof. DARK SKINNED CHILDREN NOT ALLOWED. For the first 6 days of our visit my children who are mixed race and of dark completion were treated like criminals while trying to enjoy time in the pool. Daily my kids come to me and my sister in law telling us about being harrassed while using the pool. The kids told staff and security they were staying at the resort giving the last name and room number. This would only suffice for a few hours or at most one day before the harassment would start again. While I was at the pool Sunday March 12th 2023 they were approach twice by a confrontational security guard acting on information given to him by Comstock the grill cook that my children were there illegally. Witnessing this first hand I had enough. No other kids were bothered but to be fair, lol, they were not dark skinned like my kids. I approached the guard and told him to not speak to my children again. I approached Comstock the cook with my phone video recording. He refused to give me his name but did admit that my kids looked like locals becase of there skin color. I then went to the executive office to speak to the general manager who was out but spoke to his fill in Fred. about the issue. He said he would speak to the cook and security guard and have them apologize. This didn't happen. He also wanted to fix the 6 days of race fueled harassment with some free umbrellas. This place is not family friendly unless your white.…
We have been coming to this property for over 40 years and have considered it the perfect spot. But the last two times, 2021 and now (2023) there has been construction noise as a unit is remodeled. The noise is deafening throughout because the building is concrete and it rattles Excessively. Management should make guests aware the construction will be happening during your stay. Never coming back, Marriott next door much better solution.
We loved this hotel, especially the room we stayed in- room 335 Oceanfront. The 3D tour is completely accurate and the views were amazing. We loved not being very high up, so we could easily access the staircase next to the room and go right down to the beach and pool super easily with our 4YO vs. having to walk down to the elevators, go around, etc. There was a sand shower basically at the base of the stairs too, so it was so convenient. Access to the parking garage was also super easy from this room/location, so we could easily load our car for longer trips. I spent the morning going on long walks easily accessible from the walking path in front of the room, and it was fun to people-watch the same path. The room makes it feel like you're part of the action while also being a bit removed and having access to your own kitchen and drinks. The views and sunsets were amazing. The two bedrooms were so large that we were able to put an air mattress on the floor of the king room for our child while grandparents slept in the second bedroom. Our daughter loved the kiddie pool and we were situated right between two kid friendly hotels with pools (the Westin properties). Being walking distance to Whaler Village was also a real perk. We didn't mind that there is no restaurant on the property, as it's nice to be able to bring whatever you want to the pool area and save money that way, which you can't do at the hotels with restaurants. There is water and coffee down by the pool, as well as a cute lounge area. Was so nice to be able to fill our water bottles here. I know these condos are owned by people and rented out but I do wish the condo owners of 335/hotel would allow people who bring things to leave them in the units more so that it's less wasteful. I.E., we went to Walmart when we flew in to buy an air mattress, sand toys, and we rented boogie boards, a cooler, beach chairs, etc. There is more than enough storage in this unit to allow people to leave these things so that other families could use them (obviously with limits), as we heard that some other condo units provide more of these types of items for families. These units are expensive but definitely worth it. The only gripe is with the pool and beach chair people. They are pretty rude and it's pretty disgusting to charge people $50+ to sit in a chair on the beach in front of the hotel when you're paying the price you are for these condos. So, definitely rent those chairs for $50 for the whole week, and don't support this practice. This is also probably why they don't leave amenities like this in the condo, which is super unfortunate and would have made the trip SOOO much easier to plan, cheaper, and less wasteful if the condo came with things to make the beach vacation easier (really just basics, beach chairs, sand toys, cooler, etc.) - it really makes no sense not to provide things everyone coming through the apartment will want access to. 4 stars because of this.…
The complex needs an update. Front desk has little information. Would have been nice to know before we rented that they would be Pest Spraying all units. Would have been nice to know before we rented that the beach in front of this resort was wiped out 3 months before? No hot water on one day because their chiller failed. The two pools are relatively small and one is basically dedicated to children. This is a resort for families and does not have a special feel. Regarding the units - ours looked like a throwback to the 80s and did not have a clean and fresh feel. Sofa was repaired with large pieces of tape to hold the arms together. The second bedroom is not what I would call a bedroom. It is small, no closet, and no window, When you close the levered door to the living room, you can hear everything being said in the living room and the main bedroom. Again, the unit would be okay for parents and 2 kids. It is not good for 2 couples! Unit above us is undergoing a makeover so we had construction banging that started every morning at 9am. If you want a special Hawaii feel, don’t stay here and don’t stay in condo 4103.…
Be very wary anonymous staying here. There are basically zero amenities, check in is horrible and beyond slow, and don’t even try to do yoga bc you’ll be watched on camera and then asked to put shoes on. They don’t allow over ear headphones in the gym, limit the towels you can use at the pool, overall a horrible ‘resort’ experience. Oh, and they have a zero cancellation policy (which I knew about) so if you want to leave after being treated horribly you are out of luck.
Right in the middle of Kanapalli beach, this is a great choice. More room to spread out in condo then typical resort hotel room. Each place is individually owned so some variation in furnishings can occur but our unit was decent. Full kitchen saved some food costs and washer and dryer in unit helped with traveling light. Self parking in small garage was convenient and quick (less time then waiting for valet). Pool chairs were padded and many had sun hood for personal shade. Best pool towels!!! Grill area has personal chefs which was convenient for an economical night out. Covered pool cabana area provided an area to hang out in shade and catch up with the latest sporting event. Provided beach chair service was also complimentary and convenient. Yes the beach walk area has been impacted here by erosion but access was available for residents (guests of resort on either side are forced to street or beach). The biggest downside is adult hot tub pool jets did not work the entire week there and there is no onsite food or drink but plenty of places within walking distance for that and you can bring your own which was extremely economical.…
Wonderful location, best unit, fully stocked, clean, and quiet. I would rebook again. Our unit was garden facing but we were still able to see the ocean. Fully stocked kitchen, beds were comfortable, had beach chairs for us to use. The beach was accessible even though there was some minor repair’s happening. Pool was small but nice.
This was the perfect place for a family vacation. My multigenerational family of 10 rented 3 units. All had ocean views in buildings 3 and 4. One was on the 2nd floor, one on the 5th and one on the 6th. All had beautiful views and nice large balconies. The condos are well equipped with everything you need for basic cooking and personal care. You never know what you are going to get with a condo rental, but we were all very pleasantly surprised. The bathrooms had plenty of soap, shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper and tissues. The kitchen had plenty of dish soap, paper towels, dishwasher soap, etc. The laundry room even had detergent. The condos are run more like a hotel with bell service and room cleaning every 3 days. They will even carry your groceries up for you. There are chefs on site to BBQ whatever you want with their special seasoning. There were plenty of pool chairs and beach chairs available, even during the busy Thanksgiving break. The location is great. The beach erosion was not nearly as bad as we had heard. There is great snorkeling if you swim out a bit. You can walk to Whaler’s Village in a matter of minutes. Ka’anapali Ali’i was far more comfortable than a hotel. I would highly recommend it for a great family vacation.…
Our family rented 7 units. The decor in all of them varied but everyone was happy with their units. Some were more updated than others. All were spacious and everyone had good beds. The front desk was frustrating. Everyone checked in at different times and everyone had their confirmation number. The gal checking me in would not take my confirmation number and kept calling me by another name on our reservation. The pool is great. It's not super huge but we never had an issue getting chairs. We used the grills and it worked out well. The beach has sustained damage but you can easily get to the beach and enjoy the ocean. I think we would stay here again.
Spent Thanksgiving week at the Kaanapali Alii with our extended family (12 adults and grandchildren). We had three condos in the same building (2nd, 6th and 10th floors). Fabulous ocean and mountain views. Easy access to Whalers Village and Lahaina. While the pools ay some of the nearby hotels are much bigger, the Alii pools were just perfect for our family . . . and we could always find lounge chairs without having to come down to the pool at 7 am. Further, the size of the condos are outstanding for families (1500 sq. ft. in the one bedroom and 1900 sq. ft. in the two bedroom). Even used the grills one night for a family dinner (as did many other guests during our stay). And don't let the news of the September storm/swell scare you away. Yes, it took out part of the walkway in front of the Alii, but the beach is fully back and you can still easily access the walkway to Black Rock at one end and beyond the Hyatt at the other. Would definitely return to the Kaanapali Alii.…
