Nestled in a prime spot, Aston Kaanapali Shores garners acclaim for its convenient access to beaches, shops, and local attractions. Guests are charmed by the hotel's atmosphere, complete with live music, despite some remarks about the need for a decor refresh. The capacious rooms are a hit for their views, yet there are occasional gripes about the dated amenities and upkeep.
Cleanliness is a strong suit, often highlighted in reviews, while thoughts on value and cost diverge among visitors. Amenities like on-site dining and beach access are well-regarded, although suggestions for modernization surface. Service is largely commended for its friendliness, though not without a few hiccups in efficiency.

Two bedrooms with two baths and oceanfront premium view. This room was extremely nice! Wraparound windows directly on the beige sandy beach front. We were there in February and literally every day watched multiple, multiple whales all morning long and turtles as well from our big balcony. So nice! Huge windows, opening up to a balcony with great ocean views from living room and from master bedroom, and then big window mountain views from the other bedroom. Full kitchen, granite countertops, full fridge, table, sofa and chairs, just really nice. Basic, no frills, oceanfront pool and hot tub, but still nice. AC. Multiple local food trucks in a lot just off the property on the main road. Our stay was really, really great!

We booked back in Feb, 2 bed/garden view condo (#337), 7 nights/8 days; stayed mid August. We were given chance to upgrade to ocean view ($50 per night more) but didn’t want the extra cost. Front desk person was very nice and friendly, and we were the only ones there at the time (around 5pm).
Having the Times market across the street was convenient but would recommend Safeway in Lahaina (much nicer, better stock, better selection, more variety). We also did go to the food trucks the night we got there … be patient as well t took over an hour to get food.
Unit was very clean and not too dated. Kitchen supplies were minimal but you can always request. We didn’t have a nonstick pan and was able to easily request. Kitchen was great as we cooked every day. Detergent for both sink washing and dishwasher was provided, as well as a sponge. Due to COVID-19, no daily housekeeping, but we were able to change out towels whenever we wanted. Since we were there for 4+ nights were did get one housekeeping cleaning/visit which was nice.
Extra bedding and linens were available for the pullout couch- we used that so we can be more comfortable watching dvds at night. Beach/pool towels provided were thick and clean, with easy way of swapping out as often as you’d like. Larger pool was more geared for families (max depth was 3.5ft?); smaller rectangular pool by beach was as deep as possibly 7ft, and definitely more inviting for adults (older kids).
Master bed was king sized and comfortable; 2nd bedroom had a double. Suite was comfortable for our party of 4. We also took advantage of the small stacked washer/dryer (1 box of detergent provided; I always bring a bag of pods). We were “gifted” with a boogie board from a previous guest (looked like it was barely used, found by trash area…). We also left that so another guest/family could use.
Maui is very crowded with tons of tourists… please be respectful of those who are providing you any type of service; please pick up after yourselves; slow down/be patient if you need to wait for anything/congestion.

I chose this resort because they were offering a discounted rate and it was reasonably priced (for the area) for a two bedroom suite with laundry. The space was awesome for our family of four and I was upgraded from ocean view to ocean front on check in. We loved the wrap around ocean front balcony. Rooms are a bit dated but I liked the "Island decor" and just wished there were things like a toilet that flushed better, nicer mattresses, a fitted sheet so I wouldn't have to tuck the flat sheet under the mattress every night, etc. I feel like my complaints are fairly nitpicky. We were happy in the suite and it was a good value for West Maui. Full kitchen with pots pans coffee maker cutlery glasses etc. Staff are all friendly and helpful. Beach is nice and there are two pools for relaxing. My 11yo loved the garden pool. The Beach Club food and drinks are fine and priced right for the area. You will get tired of eating there other restaurants are close by within walking distance. Two shops on site for stuff you forgot, drinks snacks or souvenirs. We used the equipment rental to get snorkeling stuff and the staff texted a list of snorkeling spots with google maps links. Would not bother renting an umbrella as they are useless in the wind and it's generally windy. This location did seem to be slightly windier than other spots even a few miles to the south. Trade winds increase in the afternoon. This resort never felt crowded, which was probably my favorite thing about it. Easy drive to check out other beaches. We walked to Airport Beach for great snorkeling. Drove to Lahaina, Black Rock and Kapalua. Overall really enjoyed and would definitely stay again.

Stayed here one week on family vacation - 3 adults, 2 teens and 1 preteen in a one Br suite and a two BR suite, both with kitchens. Beautiful building and grounds all well maintained. Costco had made reservation with our two rooms in opposite ends of the building but Reception was very accommodating and after our first night they moved my husband and I over to a nicer, higher category room to be close to our son and grandkids for no extra charge. Full size kitchens with frig, stove and dishwasher plus washer/dryer too. Everyone super nice from parking lot attendant to front desk to bartenders. Even though the beach isn’t much, the pools and everything else made up for it. Highly recommend staying here.

Our group of 9, 8 adults and 1 child, took a family vacation this year in January. We booked 2, 2 bedroom units. They were able to get our rooms right next to each other which was great. The in room washer and dryer is a nice bonus. The location of the property is fine. Just a few minutes drive from Lahaina Town, which is a lot of fun. Also a few minutes from Kapalua which has some nice beaches. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were always met with friendly aloha smiles and greetings. The reason for a 3 rating is the Aston Kaanapali Shores is a dated property. The carpets in our bedrooms were very stained and needed to be replaced. The units needed paint, new trim and caulking. The grounds are well kept but older. Pools are ok but small for a place of this size. The lawn area is a waste. It would be good to expand the main pool and eliminate the grass area. The restaurant staff was very nice but the food not so much. There are no servers that make their way around the pool area to help you as in other higher end resorts. The shops are ok but an ABC store is right outside the gate and much cheaper. Food trucks next door were fun. There is no beach, it's rocks, but you can walk a few yards and get a small strip of sand. Better to drive to one of the other beaches nearby. Bottom line is the team does their very best to make your stay pleasant at a property that needs to be upgraded. You will want to sleep here but spend most of your time at other places and restaurants which kind of defeats the purpose for a resort experience.

We had a great stay at this resort! Beautiful, well kept and very clean grounds. We booked a 2 bedroom 2 bath oceanfront suite and upon arrival were upgraded for free to the 2 bedroom 2 bath Aloha suite. There are no words to describe the beautiful views from pretty much the entire suite! We loved the upgraded kitchen with all the appliances and utensils you could need to prepare a full meal. Breakfast in the huge lanai daily with the most amazing views. The dishwasher, washer and dryer all worked great and appeared updated. The bedrooms were big and we never felt crowded (myself, husband, 3 kids-ages 10 to 18). Our kids loved the pools and we ate at the Beach Club restaurant several times and it was great. We had no problems swimming at the beach, great spot a few feet to the left once you walk down to the sand and snorkeling is decent. The location of this resort is excellent (unless you want to be amongst crowds) and the ABC store a short walk from the hotel is a big plus! The only reason this is not a 5 star review is due to the carpet in the room, which is extremely worn out, stained and coming apart in some areas. I do hope the hotel updates these small issues because we’re definitely planning on coming back! And Mahalo to ALL staff we encountered for sharing their beautiful island and Aloha vibes, they truly made us feel welcomed!

We stayed here due to the price and it met our needs. Room truthfully had more than we needed in terms of amenities (full fridge, oven, range, microwave, dishwasher, laundry!) and although all the appliances were older and we really didn't spend enough time in the room to use them much, it's still cool that they were there. Along the same lines, this was the first hotel we stayed at that offered free DVD rentals (played on a PS3 which was less than intuitive but still a nice thought). The hotel in general needs a lot of updating in terms of finishes and appliances. There were 2 nice pool areas that again we didn't really use and the hotel is right on the beach(!) which was beautiful. It is walking distance or even easier driving distance to great snorkeling by the black rock formation. The coffee shop was closed due to COVID and restaurant was decent for breakfast (we didn't go for any other meals). They do not clean your room during your stay (not sure if this is a change due to COVID) but do offer fresh towels etc on request. If you want fancy/trendy/modern, this isn't it but if you're traveling on a budget and still want to stay in a great area with lots of amenities, try here!

We felt lucky to find this two-bedroom, two-bathroom suite with a living room, kitchen with full-sized appliances, a big dinette, and our own stacked washer/dryer. The price was a bargain, even compared to the price of just two rooms at other resorts. And the wraparound lanai gave us stunning views of the property and both islands of Molokai and Lanai. Snorkeling right in front of the hotel was as good as other companies' paid excursions.

I’ll get the bad out of the way first: I want to give this resort 5 stars but have to take one off due to the overall old quality of the bedrooms bathrooms and halls spaces. They are in desperate need of an update. The lights and ceiling panels are creepy and there’s an overall aged and run down feel to the rooms. The carpet was also so dirty but I can see that that’s hard to keep up with on a ground level room. The kitchen had been updated nicely. We were in room 137.
BUT I would stay here again in a heartbeat because of the beautiful grounds, pools and overall location. The tennis courts were very nice. This resort has the most lovely tropical gardens around the pools and the grounds are maintained so nicely. There are little paths through the garden near the pool and ponds. The pools are so nice and clean and spacious with fun shallow portions and fountains. There are very, very, very loud birds at sunrise and sunset. I’m not really sure why they are so loud and why there are so many but we didn’t mind. There’s a path along the front of the hotel with perfect ocean views and we saw hundreds of whales without even looking for them daily. There really is not a beach this time of year because of the tides and it looked as though it would be too rocky even if tides were low. There were a few smallish sections of sand we still enjoyed as we whale watched and viewed the sunset. Location is great with 10 minute drives to excellent beaches in either direction (Ka’anapali, Napili and Kapalua to name a few). There was a grocery store and some other restaurants across the street which were convenient.
We also really enjoyed the craft fair on Thursdays and the other great shops on the property.
Overall- almost perfect, just needs some updating to feel truly clean and resort like.

We really enjoyed our time at the Aston kaanapali shores. The kaanapali area of Maui is our favorite and you really can go wrong on any of the resorts there. This is our first time at the Aston. The location is great because you are right on the beach, you have a great view of both Lanai and Molokai, there were even whales that we can see from our Lanai. Right across the street is the times market which is great because there is a kitchen in the hotel room with a full refrigerator and freezer. Oh yeah there are pots and pans and cutlery with a dishwasher! We really took advantage of the in unit washer and dryer which made it nice when we came home and didn't have a whole lot of laundry to do. The food trucks are also close by. The Beach area is narrow but opens up at the resorts right next to the Aston. My recommendation for anybody that stays near kaanapali Beach is to bring water shoes because the shore is kind of Rocky. The great thing is that the snorkeling is excellent and during whale season you can hear the whales singing to each other underwater.

It's usually ok to swim between the Aston Kaanapali Shores and the pink hotel (now Hilton Vacation Club). However, don't go too far out, especially with the kids and do check for rocks in the water. Just go slow ...
They don't have charging stations at this time for EV's. I do know that they have them at Whaler's Village just a few miles away and also next to Fairway Shops which are also a bit closer.
I think the other responder covered much of differences. Not sure if the rental shack has any rules about what kind of guest you are but the cabana a few weeks ago was fairly pricey- like $85 per day. No option for partial day. But they had these package deals for 2 or 4 days to rent like beach stuff- umbrella, cooler etc for like $100 or so. Probably best to call and talk to the shack. The only thing we did that was resort specific I think was shuffleboard and pickleball. Everything else we did - as other person said I think would be open- like swimming, restaurant, entertainment around the pool. Sorry not much else I can offer
