If you to party at your accommodation or want all the modern luxuries then this place is not for you. However, if you want a quaint and quirky place to.stay right on the water and just chill out, and you're not worried about having the latest of everything then this might just be the place. I don't mind a party... More

Aloha and Mahalo for your review, I am happy that you found the Makai Inn to be quiet and quaint. I did want to address your comment on the rise in rates. The Makai Inn has not seen a rate increase in many years, nor has it had any updating or serious maintenance of the property. We are in the... More

If I could give this hotel negative stars I would. Me and two friends booked this hotel because we just graduated high school and we were on a budget, but use your money somewhere else. I would've rather paid more instead of staying at this place. First off we had 3 people and the limits to the rooms are 2...when... More

Aloha, I am sorry you had a bad experience with the previous owner. In July, we acquired the property and are making major improvements to the hotel. While we are still not a "Party" hotel, I do encourage my guests to enjoy themselves and only ask that they are quiet after 10pm, a reasonable hour, considering most guests are up... More

Read the amenities list carefully for what they don't say... There are no tv's ,no swiming pool, a timer on the water heater (shut off between 10pm-6:30am), no ac( though the breeze and fans were adequate for us it may be a point of concern for others),jalousie windows (to let in every noise) and sporadic at best internet connection. The... More

We had arrived to check in & or rooms weren't ready yet, the owner said she'd clean it & it'd be ready for us when we got back .. i don't know what she did while she was "cleaning" there was old rotting food in the fridge, i opened the draws and there was rubbish from previous guests, the floors... Aloha, Mahalo for taking the time to review the Makai Inn. We have recently undergone an ownership/management change and are doing many upgrades and improvements to the property. I have hired an excellent housekeeping manager and maintenance man and we are working together to make the Makai an amazing property that guests feel comfortable and do not want to leave.... More

This is a very charming little place in a great location, but the other reviews are right about the lack of cleaning. The fridge was really gross and I wondered when the last time the bathroom had been cleaned- and I hoped the sheets were clean! If you are a stickler for cleanliness, don't stay here. if you do stay... More

The rooms are very dirty ,you can't use the toaster nor the coffee maker, and the frige is filty inside and outside . There is a finger of grease on all appliances. towels looks and smell like rags, floors are dirty... More

I did enjoy the patio by the sea wall and being out of the awful unit. Unit #6 was extremely dirty. The floor had been swept and kitchen counter wiped (not sure if they even used a cleaning solution) but that was all. Coffee pot looked like it has never been rinsed out. Bathroom has dirt on the counter, facet,... More

It's a no frills kind of place, where you can relax to the crashing waves and soft music playing in the garden. It's a little dated but the fantastic location right on the sea wall will make me want to come back.

Sprinted away for a relaxing week in lahaina and opted to stay 9 ft from ocean at Makai Inn. It's older but very clean: beds are comfortable and the waves slapping the seawall lull you to sleep easily. There's no air conditioning, however the two large ceiling fans pull the strong ocean breeze directly into the room so it remains... More

We have relaxed at the Makai Inn for at least 2 weeks every February for about 8 years. If possible, we prefer one of the oceanfront units (Plumeria in particular), but have stayed in several of the other units. We have read some of the reviews that voice complaints. Yes, once in a while, there is a little dirt here... More
