The place and staff are incredible! The view from our lanai to kick off the day with a delicious breakfast and then to end the day with a glass of wine and glorious sunsets every night was amazing. The location also can't be beat with easy access in all directions. This was our 4th time staying here and we're already looking forward to the next trip. Oh, and the outdoor shower... soooo enjoyable!! I'm not looking forward to my boring shower at home.

Property's Favorite Review
Stayed 4 nights for our wedding anniversary, and having experienced another accommodation in Wailea at the same period, we can honestly say Ho'oilo House is the best accommodation in Maui. Everything from the point of booking felt easy and reassuring. Dan was extremely responsive to emails before checking in, and even provided detailed check-in instructions about a week before arrival. Our room, Kipuka, was perfect. Good size, private and well equipped. Breakfast was made easy by being able to order up to 10pm the night before, and eating either in the room or the communal area. The food quality was also top notch. Overall a delightful stay, at a house ideally located close to Lahaina and its great restaurants and shops. This is away from the big resorts of Wilea so if you value privacy and comfort, Ho'oilo House is the perfect choice. Also, beaches along Lahaina are easier to access as it is easily doable to swim all day long, unlike along the Wailea coast that gets very windy from midday restricting the ability to enjoy an afternoon swim. Final shout out to Nancy who keeps Ho'oilo House in top condition and is extremely nice and approachable.

Staying here was such an amazing experience. It was the perfect home base while exploring the island. Fresh breakfast on the lanai is delightful. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and the tropical pool setting is absolutely gorgeous. The hosts are very helpful and informative. 10/10, highly recommend.

This place is paradise in paradise. It's hands down the best place to stay in Maui. The house is AMAZING! The only thing better than the house is....Dan! He really made our stay very special. The breakfast was phenomenal. Everything was made in house by Dan himself. The bread..Dan made it from scratch..The muffins and scone..Dan made them from scratch!! If you stay here, you won't regret it!!

We spent our 7 days in Hawaii between Ho'oilo House and a fancy 5* resort and as soon as we checked in the 5* resort, we could only think about coming back here. What a truly amazing place. The view, the sound of the birds in the morning, the breakfast in the lanai, the shower outside and the bright skies in the night, full of stars, can't be described. Perfect to disconnect from everything. Dan, the owner, was very kind and very nice to talk with. We will keep this place very close to our hearts.

I live in Launiopoko, the same community as the Ho'olio House, our home is small and we have my mother and son-in-law come in for the Holiday, we could not fit my mother in the house so we put her in the Ho'oilo House for the week, its only about a 1/4 mile from my residence. The place was great, the owners are very friendly and the views are amazing. Nothing beats the sound of water running and the plumeria scent that is always permeating the air. I will be using these guys for all my family that comes to visit .

We stayed for our Honeymoon in July 2023, and it was a fabulous visit! The property is wonderful, peaceful and in a beautiful location, hidden away enough to feel secluded, but close enough to Lahaina to enjoy local activities such as surfing, shopping, lu'au's etc. There's enough parking for a car for each room, but it's also easy to get an Uber or Lyft if wanted. We had the Kohala room, which faced the ocean and every morning we'd have our breakfast outside our room and watch the ocean which was lovely. Although the room itself is small, the bed is SO comfortable!!!! It's high, so if you're not flexible at all, you'd struggle to get in and out, so that's just something to be aware of when booking this room. The bathroom was wonderful, outdoor shower, stone bathtub! Showering on Maui, outside, under the stars was fabulous! For breakfast, you complete a form before 10pm the night before and leave it out for Dan to collect, then you pick up your breakfast at your chosen time and take it to anywhere you'd like to eat in/around the house. It's a nice touch as it feels really homely. Although the selection isn't huge, it was lovely and we found there was more than enough to set us up for the day if you select a few different options such as toast, a muffin, fruit bowl and a yoghurt. The muffin changes every day which is nice, I believe they're home made (they are delicious!). The Wifi is good, we never had any issues, even when video calling back home on a laptop. There's a safe which we find important. The only two things that I think would elevate this property even more: 1. Some information on recommendations on local restaurants, activities, bars etc. 2. Some small recognition for honeymooners, I appreciate that perhaps most stays are for honeymoons, but a little note with a small bottle of wine, or a local favourite sweet treat, it would just make it feel that little bit more special. Overall, this property was our favourite from the four we stayed across all islands!

Magic on the hillside....outdoor showers with rainbows....serenity...calm...and soul replenishment ..this lovely inn is.operated with taste, attention to detail and consideration by owners Amy and Dan!...we relished every minute, the view offered much as did the beautifully landscaped grounds...the uniquely decorated rooms and the delicious breakfasts....topped off with homemade bread! The location is perfect, away from the busy streets of Lahaina, but close enough to get everywhere within minutes...watch the sunrise between the hills in the morning, sprinkled with a cloud of mist...and then embrace the sunset in the evening....all to capture a perfect stay in this beautiful place....not to be fogotten and to be an anticipated return ! Thank you Amy and Dan!

My husband and I were looking for a serene experience away from the large resorts and places with a ton of kids. Ho’oilo House was perfect in that way. The property is lovely and the views are breathtaking. While it is off the beaten path, we didn’t have trouble finding it. The owners made sure to give explicit instructions to not rely on GPS and how to find the place. They were also in contact with us prior to our stay to inquire about dietary restrictions and we have many. We’re both allergic to so many things, I honestly didn’t expect anyone to be so accommodating. We were taken aback with the whole ‘no locking doors’ thing. You can lock your room from the inside. But even the main doors are open all day until late. It takes some getting used to and honestly, by the end of our stay, I didn’t even think about it. We stayed in the Wailele Suite which has a queen bed. I LOVED the outdoor shower. The view of the mountains and palm trees overhead was amazing. I found myself staying out there a little longer than I actually needed. The property is so quiet. I often wondered if the other guests were around at all. To order breakfast, we filled out a form the night before. I was a little disappointed with the limited choices. I’d love to see a few more options for eggs (only offered hard boiled). We did wind up going to the food truck down the road most days (which I highly recommend). But having a scone and some tea next to the pool in the morning was a relaxing, peaceful way to start the day. There’s a general vibe from everyone there (guests and owners) that we respect your privacy if you don’t want to make chit chat, but if you reach out to Dan for anything, he has lots of suggestions. He really saved us by recommending we look at getting rash guards for snorkeling. Good call! So, you should know that I have a real difficult time with creepy crawly things. There are a lot of geckos on the property, but it honestly didn’t bother me even when one found its way into our bathroom. It seemed much more afraid of us. We had some sugar ants find their way in through the A/C unit. Dan promptly put some stuff down that kept them at bay. We get ants in Seattle every year, so I’m aware it’s something you just have to deal with. If this is a dealbreaker for you, you may consider staying at a large hotel. There are two minor things I would recommend Dan and Amy look into. The mattress in our room probably needs to be replaced or it was just too soft for me. Felt like we were sinking into the middle. The other is that water does tend to spill into the bathroom from the outdoor shower (under the glass doors). Not sure if there’s anything they can do about that. I didn’t ask while we were there, but I wonder if there’s any laundry service. We didn’t stay that long where I had to do laundry, but having the option would be nice. I would stay at Ho’oilo House again no question. No kids, quiet, peaceful, and gorgeous views. Exactly what we wanted. We even got massages while we were there on the private lanai. Thanks Dan & Amy. We felt very welcome.
