The unit is not managed by the resort, but by Maui Paradise Properties . It has a beautiful- spectacular- view , but the afternoon sun and it’s glare can make the lanai uncomfortable. There were no cutting boards in the kitchen, but three were delivered the next day, after a phone call. No response from the managers for a broken screen door , a broken toaster, or for a change of towels during a 12 day trip. No washer/dryer in unit . Coin-op at office. No dining table in unit, although one was shown in the promotional photos, which made the unit look nicer than it is. No lighting on the lanai . TINY pool . Very good supply of coffee filters . As always, our family had a wonderful time in Hawaii.
Positives: the view, the view, and the view. The sound of the ocean and location. Negatives: there are too many negatives in this unit to even leave a list. I don’t consider myself an expert, but we have rented many places inside the US as well as abroad. This is not someone’s beloved home that they are sharing with you. This is someone’s Cash cow—do as little as possible, just enough to rent it out. The kitchen is so poorly equipped, It is even difficult to put together a simple meal. It is a mishmash of pots and pans and utensils many of which are not even useful. Any improvements since it was built have been kept to a bare minimum. You pay a cleaning fee but it is not clean. There are nice units for rent in this complex, but this is not one of them. Keep looking.
We have stayed in Kulakane for many years and decided to return to Kulakane this year for 2 Weeks. It appears that this unit was sold and all the decorations were taken off the walls just leaving the hangers. This unit needs to be painted and needs some real TLC. While both bathrooms have been upgraded the mirrors in both bathrooms need to be removed and new ones put up. The kitchen is very small and really no room for food except a tiny pantry that has a bunch of junk in it. We have stayed in many other units at Kulakane and this one is a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!
This is my wife and I’s first time in Maui, and we are absolutely loving it. Our stay at Kulakane makes this even more spectacular. This condo is clean and comfortable, and having bbq our New Years dinner here left us with an experience we will cherish. While cooking we were greeted by so many “Happy New Years” and visited with some amazing people also staying here while cooking their own dinner. To top it off we have coffee and breakfast every morning in our balcony, and enjoyed watching whales swim by New Year’s Eve. After editing this pic a bit I sent it to some friends, and I enjoyed their banter about how I’m just back home in Canada sending google pics to convince them I’m here. I highly recommend this location as a great home base for your vacation. Aloha!
We liked everything! We were in 201, second floor corner, looking straight onto the ocean. Visited in October, a quiet month. The room facilities really suited us as we prefer self catering to expensive food. The apartment was clean and comfortable, not flashy and bright like a resort. Note this is not a resort which is one of the things that we liked. It has a small pool and some marine equipment available. There wasn’t any children while we were here, which we also considered to be a big plus and we didn’t hear other people much. I think owners still live here, & the target market may be seniors rather than families. We liked it’s older style of building. I don’t know about summer but this area seems like it’s not party central. There’s no shops onsite, which again is not a big deal because you drive everywhere in America. There is a little beach in the building next door that can be used to swim from. The other thing really like is the loud sound of the ocean breaking against the breakwall of the property. Debbie the site manager is great, check her hours as she’s not here permanently. It’s a short drive to the public beaches outside the Westin & other resorts, they & the boardwalk are lovely. The condo is the sort of place we would stay in for 2 weeks, sit on the balcony & read, self cater, & not leave much! Negatives: no aircon, which didn’t bother us as it wasn’t summer. Some noise from the building next door, but not late at night.…
