Enjoyed our 2BR ocean view. The lobby and valet/bell staff were fine but not overly friendly or welcoming especially upon our arrival. The condo was clean and functional with a nice kitchen and large balcony. I was expecting a more direct view of the ocean, but it was a little obstructed. The beach is rocky, though hard to tell from the shore. We ended up walking down the boardwalk for a bit and found a better, sandy beach for the rest of the week. Duke's is good but impossible to get a reso or a seat at the bar. Ordering take out to the room via QR code was easy, but pricey. The lobby coffee shop is great and had an excellent cold brew I had daily. The resort itself was crowded and full of kids (as expected), but not rowdy. I understand staffing shortages but would have liked housekeeping at least every other day if nothing more than to vacuum sand off the floors. But they were attentive whenever we asked for more towels or anything else. Overall a great stay.…
Honua Kia had very spacious and luxurious efficiency rooms for my family of five. This was our first on Maui, and the resort and it's staff did not disappoint. From our kind checkin coseirge to bellhops we're terrific. The only con I saw was the parking garage does fill up, but they had plenty of overflow parking ( lot on side of the entrance). The grounds were excellent landscaped, the pool and hot tubs were clean, and just steps from beach, and a beautiful sunset. Great place to renew vows or wed. Tiki torches at night shed a great ambiance. The suites were the cleanest and the layout was grand. We had 2 bathrooms and 3 rooms to sleep if count comfortable pullout sofa bed. It is convenient to all sites in Maui, since I felt the Island was not that huge to travel. I would not hesitate to stay in this slice of heaven on earth again. And I am a very tough customer. Thanks. And Enjoy, mahalo Honua Kai, We miss you.!…
We've stayed at the Honua Kai multiple times, and have never been disappointed. The grounds are lovely, the suites are spacious and very well appointed, and the resort has all the amenities of nearby hotels, with much nicer rooms. Duke's restaurant is on the property, which is convenient, the spa is lovely and the staff is friendly and accommodating. The only issue is parking, which is definitely a problem since they built the villas where the parking lot used to be. Garage parking fills up very early, which leaves only street parking, which can be difficult to find if you get back from dinner after 8:00 pm. The resort is located at the north end of Kaanapali Beach, so a walk to Whaler's Village is definitely a hike, but there is a shuttle which runs regularly.
Facilities vary by unit but generally very crowded. No parking spots available twice so we needed to valet park. No shuttle to Whaler’s Village or Lahaina. Beautiful spot but I prefer to stay at the Westin where the service levels are higher.
To preface this review, I’m currently an 18 year old going into college, so I may not seem to be the most qualified to write a review for a hotel of this caliber, especially considering my parents paid for the stay, although I will lend my insight regardless. To start off, the property itself is beautiful and there is nothing particularly wrong with the physical hotel, just some issues with the way it’s managed. The room was listed as having a partial ocean view - the room ended up being on the ground floor and the only way to see any of the ocean from the room was if you were Shaq height. When my parents contacted management, they were somewhat accommodating and ended up crediting us a small amount. Additionally, the ocean wasn’t visible from the lanai, although being able to walk out directly from the room to the pool area was a nice perk of being on the ground floor. The room was generally clean, although showing signs of wear. Nothing wrong with the room, management just shouldn’t falsely list it as a partial ocean view. The amenities themselves were excellent, although, following theme, the drawbacks come with management. The pools and hot tubs were overrun with children. Being 18 myself, I’m not deep into adulthood, but me and my younger brother nonetheless were a little annoyed at times. The hot tubs were basically kiddie pools. They did in fact enforce the quiet sanctity of the one “quiet pool” which was a refreshing escape from the herds of unsupervised children; it just would’ve been nice to have a quiet hot tub as well. I do recognize that the hot tubs are supposed to be ‘for quiet enjoyment’ according to the signs after 6pm, but they should really have something all day. The fitness center was fully stocked, and never too crowded, which was nice considering I’m a teenage guy who enjoys working out more than he should, but again, it fell short in terms of management and towels and water cups were frequently depleted and at times the fitness center could use some cleaning. I get that everyone’s a little short-staffed right now so that’s really no big deal though. The parking situation is occasionally annoying. Good luck trying to find a spot in the garage after 9pm. Turns out, management admits there isn’t enough spots in the garage, something they should really notify you about upon check in. Overall, do you get what you pay for? Eh, I don’t really know, I’m just happy my parents took me to Hawaii. But all things considered, for the price, it seems the general reaction from my family is that the hotel deserves 3 stars. Maybe 3.5 but dumb tripadvisor doesn’t let me do that. You’re welcome for the most useful review you’ll read…
After incredibly extensive research on all kaanapali resorts, and needing a 2 bedroom condo where I could have 2 separate beds in the 2nd bedroom because my kids will not sleep in the same bed, I found maui westside properties rental agency. They offer the ability to split the king in the 2nd bedroom to 2 twins. Their prices were well below others. I had unit hokulani bldg # 509 which is an incredible wrap-around corner unit balcony with amazing views. It's on the best side of the building to have a corner balcony . The resort is beautiful as many pools and I never had problems finding chairs to sit on. the beach is beautiful but there are alot of rocks to watch out for. Big waves at times and windy too. Best restaurants were Captain jacks and Paia fish market in downtown Lahaina. South of black rock beach is where the majority of hotels and people are. I highly recommend haleakala crater at sunset as opposed to sunrise. It's warmer, less people and extremely beautiful. The road to Hana is a little stressful right now because you have to make reservations in advance if you plan to stop at black rock beach. It's very difficult to time your day on the road to Hana to make a stop in the time frame. Always download an app either the gypsy guide or the shaka guide to help you with the road to Hana.. Much better than doing it yourself. Have fun. Honau kai is beautiful!!…
Honua Kai is a beautiful resort! The grounds are breathtaking. The pools are great! The beach is gorgeous- we renewed our vows on the beach 🥰 The 3 bedroom condo with a pull out couch was perfect for our family of 7 (our family of 4, and 3 grandparents). Each room had a bathroom and the kitchen was the perfect size. We loved our stay!
I am sad to say that I am a little disappointed in Honua Kai. This is a once-in-a-lifetime dream vacation for us. We knew we were traveling at the height of the season, but this place is PACKED! Tons of sandy kids jumping in all of the pools. My kids, ages 13 and 15, don't even want to swim with all of the craziness, and finding a chair at the pool is near impossible, let alone together. We'd consider the beach more if we had a few beach chairs or an umbrella in the room. We don't. Plus the beach is very shallow. We are also unable to get in at Duke's restaurant, as well as any other restaurant on the island. We paid extra for an additional room within the suite since we have two older kids. It would be nice if that den had two single beds instead of one queen bed. And a bureau to store clothes. My daughter is sleeping on an uncomfortable pull-out in the living room. With little drawer space in the bathroom or bedrooms, we're living out of our suitcases, even though there is plenty of room in our suite. Overall just a little disappointing given what we paid.…
We rented directly from the condo and not a VRBO. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and very helpful for all of our needs. There was plenty of parking in the garage below the building. The spots are tight, like most of the parking in Maui but we could park the minivan without problems. Our condo was clean, the beds were comfortable, and there was plenty of space for our family to spread out. The kitchen had just enough dishes to cook. We had 2 pans, a cookie sheet, a few mixing bowls, and a cutting board. The knives were very dull and almost unusable. However, we only cooked 3 meals and were able to make do. The appliances worked well but were loud. The refrigerator had an ice maker that made enough ice to fill our backpack cooler each day. The washing machine was very loud but it got the job done. Unlike other guests, we experienced no problems with the dryer. Our beach towels were dry after one cycle. The resort is beautifully landscaped and well maintained. The pools were clean and the hot tubs were wonderful. My teenage kids were disappointed the pools were only a maximum of 4 feet deep and the slide was best for little kids. The pools never felt crowded and we had plenty of space to throw a ball or sit on a ledge and relax. The beach is a typical Maui beach. It's rocky and there are quite a few sea urchins. If you swim out a few feet you can enjoy the water safely. Overall, we loved our visit. …
The view and balcony were awesome. room was nice but had cockroaches in the bathroom. contacted staff but nobody would respond. we had to do our own pest control. terrible for a high-end hotel. Duke's is great but was only onsite option for meals. all pools were overrun by kids. and what is the deal with blue towels for the privileged and white towels for the rest. segregation? really?!?!
