Where do I even begin. After 25 + years as a travel agent, never have I been more disappointed with a "resort" as I have with this one. Let me just start with day 1. Day 1 - I called to see if I could extend my reservation by one day, and was told "sure...but it will be $900 for that night" instead of the $540 I confirmed 4 months ago. Fair enough..I said "No Thank you." When I arrived at my scheduled arrival date, I was put into a "aina" room. OK...I was explained that is is a mountain view. I got into our room and our view was a rooftop and a/c unit. I of course went downstairs and complained, but I was told "sorry...this is what you booked". I explained that I don't even have the mountain view...I'm looking at a a/c unit. For $540/nt...that should not be what I"m looking at. She explained to me that that is all they could do, unless I paid an extra $450 to "upgrade" to a room with a view. I explained that I don't mind the "Aina" room, as long as that what i'm looking at and not an A/C unit. No Luck. Our room is so horrible, we can't even open our 2 suitcases. There is not even room with the 2 beds, and 2 suitcases to walk around. Just horrible!!! Fast forward to day 2 and 3....no housekeeping. I even went out in the hall on our first morning when I heard them cleaning the room next door, and told her we would be gone in 1 hour for them to come clean. I was actually surprised that we were getting housekeeping because so many hotels didnt offer that because of COVID. I said all we really needed was clean towels and the trash emptied. Nothing else. But when we came in from the beach, our room had not been clean. Fast forward to our last night, and we still have not had housekeeping service. I went down to the front desk and asked for trash bags so we could at least get our trash out of the room, and we got laundry bags. It's just been one disappointment after another. I asked for a late check out, since we have a 9pm flight, and thinking with all the complaints they would accommodate..nope. After being a loyal Marriott Bonvoy member, I really expected more. I can honestly say that I will steer all my clients and friends away from this property and I will re-think my loyalty to this brand. What I think the staff doesn't realize and understand, these little things they could have easily fixed could have made the trip wonderful for us. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because the pool staff and restaurant staff were wonderful. So incredibly nice and helpful.

Hotel was fine and has been recently remodeled. Decent views (thought our first "ocean view room" had a great view of the parking lot). We had the extended lanai room which is nice, but the price charged for this is crazy. Rooms and property are clean and in good standing. The Hokupa'a tower rooms are small and the promised Hokupa'a tower experience is severely lacking for the premium charged. There is no "expereince" just paying a lot of extra money for the same poor service and experience that everyone else will receive. By 7am there are no pool chairs to be found anywhere, if you have young children you won't be able to watch them swim. Lines and waits for everything are long. Staff is hit and miss for friendliness and helpfulness. Service in the pool area is severely lacking. Plan on waiting a LONG time for a drink or not at all to get one. For what you pay there is zero value for the money. You will leave disappointed and wishing you had read and listened to the reviews staying elsewhere.

Located in a gorgeous area, beautifully maintained, clean and just fabulous. Unfortunately it all ended there as far as our experience went. Service was extremely mediocre without any personal touches or any attempt by the staff to make any extra effort. Check in was very routine almost robotic, poolside staff came by very infrequently and when they did it was no smiles, unfriendly and quite mundane. Rooms are VERY small but clean and well kept. We ended up checking out 4 days early and went to the Kea Lani. If the hotels management is reading this, you need to remind your staff on a daily basis that they are in the hospitality business and that their job requires them to be hospitable and friendly with the hotel guests and make them feel they’re at their home away from home.

So glad we only booked this hotel for 2 nights and then over to Wailea Beach Marriott which has always exceeded our expectations. I will preface this that I am an Ambassador Elite member, which nobody at this property even cares about. My problems are with the pool staff and lack of communication they have with the rest of the hotel. When I checked in, was given towel cards which the front desk worker took back and put a VIP sticker on my room key, which she said is easier than using the towel cards. Next day, went to get a towel and was told I needed to go back to reception to get towel cards. Explained that room key was supposed to work for that. Eventually got towels but was scolded in front of everyone in line that I need towels cards from this point forward. Also got a nice eye roll by the rude girl working at the towel place. So nice being Ambassador Elite. The resort fee is a disgrace at $40/day, gets you a reusable shopping bag that you pick up at the concierge. It’s a gimmick because they try to sell you tours when you pick the bag up. Dented reusable water bottles in your room that you can refill, also 2 drinks (we don’t drink), free internet ( we already get this), a shuttle to some areas (only real perk), and no beach chairs!! 2 beach chairs and umbrella are $70/day! Wailea Beach Marriott includes this with their resort fee. Wailea also gives you bike rentals. At the Westin, activities are also included like arts/crafts and cultural activities. About 50% are not happening due to covid of course. So…they are ripping you off with their resort fee. I could see them reducing the fee, that would be fair, but no. Heard two other couples talking about this rip off. Also on checkin, don’t expect an upgrade. They have this new tower that is apparently amazing and you’d think they’d let bonvoy members try it out. Nope, we got an 80’s room with broken toilet seat and hair all over our bed. Gross! I opted to pay to upgrade to new tower, nope, sold out but the entire tower was only lit up about 25% at night. It definitely wasn’t sold out, its lazy staff not willing to upgrade you and not enough cleaning staff. This property is a huge failure and a disgrace to the Marriott brand and its loyal members. I repeat, stay at the Wailea Beach Marriott!!! This place is terrible and I have already filed a complaint with the Ambassador team. Loyalty should mean something and it usually does but not at the subpar property!
