The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Ka'anapali delights guests with its variety of amenities, like the much-enjoyed pools and convenient location next to Whaler's Village, perfect for both family fun and business needs. Travelers commend the hotel's overall cleanliness, though there are occasional mentions of housekeeping oversights.
The service receives a mix of feedback, with accolades for staff friendliness contrasting with concerns over room issues. Visitors often enjoy the lively atmosphere, underscored by live music and themed pools, but some feel the hotel's value is lessened by high costs and underwhelming room views.

Detailed Reviews
My family and I stayed at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa over the Christmas holiday this past year (2020). When we walked into the lobby to check in, we were amazed by how beautiful the resort is from the beautiful waterfalls, flamingos and koi ponds, modern decor, and friendly/helpful staff. The Lanai lobby was top notch with unique amenities and great food. The guest rooms were just renovated and are very well done, with ample outdoor space for guests to take advantage of the perfect location and gorgeous views. I am life time titanium elite so I have stayed at many Bon Voy properties over the years and can say this one is one of the nicest I have visited. However, because I have kids (6 & 10) I would not return to this resort for one reason - the pools are freezing cold. Unlike most resorts on Maui, this one does not heat their pools. They have 2 water slides and a pool dedicated to the little ones, but almost no one was in the pools despite the temperatures in the high 80’s each day. The pools were just too cold, in fact the ocean was warmer and we found more guests at the beach than at the pool. If the resort decides to heat the pools, we will be back in a heartbeat but unless that happens the cold pools are a deal breaker so we will find another resort on Ka’anapali beach.

On our stay at the Westin Maui, we enjoyed a day renting a beach cabana and were so pleasantly surprised by the awesome service we received from Tara! All day long she ensured we had fresh, cold water, clean towels, and even brought us fresh pineapple to snack on. She even was able to offer suggestions for great places nearby to snorkel. We felt it was very much worth the investment to have a spot for shade and the services offered! In addition to Tara, we had a dedicated server who would check in to offer food or drink service from the pool bar. Both ladies were very attentive and so friendly! Will definitely rent a cabana again!

We rented 3 rooms in the Hokupa tower for a week’s vacation with our family. 2rooms were Queen & 1 King- all ocean view ( not ocean front). The rooms were spacious (420 sq. Ft) There was a couch in each room in addition to desk & chair.
These rooms are expensive but that is true of any upscale resort in Maui. The Lanai was a definite benefit. Breakfast in the morning, soft drinks & juice all day, a bar to order drinks & just a beautiful place to enjoy the view & relax. A shout out to Todd, who was so nice to our whole family & always eager to please.
The property is beautiful & the location couldn’t be better. You can walk 30 yards from the pool to the beach. Yes, pool chairs are reserved by 6 am but if you read any resort review that is a common complaint. Staff were leaving notes on unoccupied chairs with a 2 hour warning- not back & they would remove your things & keep them @ the towel hut. The connecting pools were wonderful and Although it was very crowded around the pool , the actual pool was never crowded.
I think it is unfair to expect any special treatment for being an elite Marriott member. I am a Titanium Elite lifetime member & know that any hotel / resort that is @ capacity can’t be expected to give an upgrade or special treatment. My family found that the staff were all very friendly & helpful.
Here are a few tips we found helpful. The pool card allows you to only get 1 towel but you can request extra cards at the desk. Once you get towels just exchange them for fresh towels & keep them in your room for the next day. Hence no waiting in line.
Rent beach chairs or other equipment from a local. We got 4 beach chairs for the week for $25. I also saw some people rented umbrellas & chairs online from Tommy Bahama. Much cheaper.
Buy blow up floats or inner tubes from a local ABC store. The towel hut has a compressor to blow them up. We gave our inner tubes to another family when we left.
We hope to return with our family next year.

Every staff member we encountered was incredibly gracious and hard working. The employees seem to work long hours and be stretched thin. Despite obviously being over-worked and exhausted, the staff were by far the best part of our stay.
The rest of the experience was not very relaxing. The room and grounds are dirty and poorly maintained. When we arrived, our bed sheets had fresh brown spots, the headboard had crusted spots, the walls and mirrors were not clean, the pillows sticking out from the case were dirty, the mattress was exposed and dirty, and there were crumbs on the floor. Pool chairs are all claimed by 6am and there is very little shade around the pool. Beach chairs are for rent only, as are shaded pool chairs and cabanas, you'll need to reserve these a number of days in advance. You are strictly allotted a maximum of four pool towels, per room, per stay. We were careful to keep our towels overnight to exchange for fresh ones the next morning, but while waiting in line we would see others be turned away for not having a coupon or towel to exchange. The food was mostly boxed or frozen, even the Waicoco restaurant
used the same reconstituted egg mix as the canteen. The restaurants and bars cannot accommodate the number of guests, leading to long waits and a tense environment. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and we will not be staying in a Westin hotel again.

This place I am sure will be okay once construction is complete. Our room hadnt been renovated and it was so old and outdated. The toilet when you flush made this extremely loud screeching noise for 30 seconds every time. The bathrobe had stains on it. The carpet was fraying and lumpy and stained. The bed was very hard and both our backs hurt. The restaurants are closed and the menu options limited where the food at the pool bar and restaurant are the same food. Only option for breakfast was a $70 per couple buffet. We ate offsite every night. There was no wifi service in the adult pool area. The gym was ridiculously small and tiny and full whenever we tried to use it. The parking was $30 a day, resort fee $30 a day for an additional $300 on your bill. We never once got room service and we didnt hang the do not disturb on the door
I had to call down and ask for them to bring us fresh items. I got approved for a credit card while on a timeshare presentation and it gave me a card number and printout and said I could use it without the physical card at the hotel. I tried to use it to pay for our charges for the marriott points and they wouldnt let me use it so I just closed the card. When we checked in there were only 2 people checking people in and it was a really long wait. I called downs few times for service since we didnt get room service and noone would answer the phone. Terrible, we would never stay here again.

This is not what I would of expected out of a Westin property. This was our 3rd stop and final leg of our trip so we have already experienced some of the hospitality of other hotels in Hawaii.
To start off, at check in the woman at the front desk didn’t know any answers to our questions, did not know anything about the hotel amenities or even our room amenities (we booked in the Hokupa’a Tower). We were told about special lounge access by our travel agent, when we asked the front desk she said “I don’t know. I’m not sure. Maybe it’s the lounge. You can try your key to get in.” Then I asked where that lounge was she told me she “didn’t know” and gave us a non-working QRS code. Lastly the woman at the front desk didn’t even go as far to say happy honeymoon or congratulations, even after I said it was our honeymoon. The Hyatt hotels we stayed in on the other islands gave us leis, a bottle of champagne and even a handwritten note!
Once we got to our room it didn’t get better. The room was a handicap room (which we had no warning of), being we aren’t handicap this was not very suitable for us. The room had no draws, the cabinet with the fridge was broken off, and to top it all off the pieces of the wall that covered the electric were literally off! We called to switch out our room.
After finally getting settled in our new room we went down to the pool. They have very strict towel rules where they only allow you 1 towel per person and you must have a towel card that you keep all throughout your stay. If you lose your towel card or towel they automatically charge you a $25 fee. Next my wife asked a question about the wrist bands by the towel station, the response she got from the towel station attendant was “we are out of them, don’t worry about it.” Not a response we expected to hear, even just a simple explanation then saying they were out would of been fine but a snooty don’t worry about it was not a good response. Finally the pool area is crowded with not nearly enough
umbrellas for the hot Hawaii sun. Maybe 1 umbrella for every 3 couples.
The beach is nice and right there but if you plan on sitting there bring your own chair. The cost to “rent” an umbrella and 2 chairs for the day is $70. You can walk down the beach 2 resorts and pay half the price.
Also they had no Valet parking and to self park was $30 a day plus tax. The Hyatt had valet and free parking for hotel guests.
The only good service I can say was in the Laini lounge. This is a lounge only for guest in the Hokupa tower. Ashely who worked at the front desk is phenomenal! She always greeted us nicely, remembered our names by the end and helped with anything we ever needed (including reservations for the Luau). The bar tenders were great also, always coming up with fun drinks and a pleasure to talk to!
In all I would definitely NOT suggest this spot to any other honeymooners. Nothing at this place really fit that honeymoon feeling. I would suggest to other honeymooners in this area to stay either at the Hyatt or Sheraton.

This was our 2nd visit here. We stayed previously before their renovation and liked it enough to come back, this time with our kids. The kids loved the hotel. They really liked the lobby area with flamingos and waterfalls and were fans of the pool. It was also great to be so close to the beach. The renovation makes the hotel feel more "hip" and modern. It is in a great location and located by so much, but also makes it a very crowded area as well.
They now offer the "Lanai" which is a VIP experience for those in the higher end rooms which we were. This was outstanding for two main reasons - breakfast was free every day which saves a family of 5 about $85 easily per day. and, they offered apps at dinner time which was nice to get a treat prior to going out to dinner and you saved on an appetizer. We also enjoyed the private bar at night where you can easily get a seat.
My only real issues included:
1. Service is just good; nothing stands out. It was hard to find the concierge at times, the lines for checking in were always long and they didn't do anything special for checking in as a platinum elite. Once again, we didn't get any kind of upgrade which just leads to #2
2. It felt very crowded. Felt like a Vegas type hotel in Hawaii which may not be for everyone who may want relax & quiet.
3. They had a horrible set up for the pool. Basically, they let everyone rush down and put towels on the few poolside chairs/beds at 6am. Then, people didn't show up until times like 10am or so, thus chairs sat empty for hours at a time. In some cases, we would see older couples doing laps around the pool trying to find a seat while the chairs next to us sat unused for 85% of the day. They said that they would put stickers on any that weren't used for an hour, but that never happened while we were there.
Finally, the biggest miss was no place for a good dinner - you had to leave. We used to like their dinner restaurant, but now it is Waicoco and no one uses it and it closes at 4pm.
Overall, we loved the stay and would come back again. It isn't perfect, but it is really nice and a great place.

My husband and I were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary at this property and have been terrible disappointed. First, check in took almost an hour, no information provided about property, such as where fitness center, spa are located, nothing about what $40 resort fee includes, supposedly some sort of complementary class and photo session but if you wanted info just wait in line again for an hour. When we did find fitness center key card would not work. Had to wait again for new one with zero apology for inconvenience. Room was not refreshed on 2nd day. For $600+ a night asking for fresh towels, coffee and tea refills was like an act of Congress, had to call 2 time and ask front desk when we left for dinner to please give us fresh towels. The absolute worst part was the pool. As beautiful as they are good luck getting a lounge chair. People leave there towels, books etc. on chairs starting early morning. By the time you wait in line to get a towel there is not a lounge chair to be had. When we finally got one we found ourselves sitting next to a family that was not even staying at the resort, they were staying in another property and came to use the pool. When we mentioned this to Nate at the front desk he accused us of lying, said they have security that watches for this. We said we were sitting right next to them and Nate asked if we informed security and we advised that is not our responsibility. So angry at the way he treated us, not once apologizing. If you want a drink by the pool be ready to wait hours and if you order a Mai Tai you can expect a cup with 90% crushed ice. Whatever you do don’t ask room service if you could get a glass wine glass so you can toast your anniversary, they will give you a plastic cup and that’s it. I don’t think it’s wrong to expect better when you pay $600+ a night in addition to $40 daily resort fees to expect your money’s worth.

My wife and I just returned from our first trip to Hawaii. I booked the Westin mostly on points which saved me a lot of money as the hotel is pricey for a room, but I guess it is average for Maui prices.
The hotel is very nice, the grounds and pools are amazing, and it is in a great location on the beach with Whalers village right next door, so it is very easy to go out for dinner and do some shopping. The pools are outstanding, with many of them around the resort, as well as waterfall etc, they even have a pool that has a temperature around 90 (between the hot tub and regular pool temp wise) and it has a sand bottom in it.
The beach is very nice, the water is clear and not too rough, and you can walk up the beach a good distance. The water does get deep pretty quickly when you go in.
We just booked a standard room, there was nothing wrong with the room, it was big enough, and clean, just not overly special when you think of a room that costs $700+ per night. Aside from the cost I have no complaints about the room.
I found the staff at the hotel all friendly, we switched rooms a couple of times as we had screaming kids and babies next to us, they made that very easy to do and were friendly.
We rented a car and found it very easy to drive around the area, I would recommend that you rent a car.
Overall a very nice place that I would recommend to any of my friends and family and if I were to go back to Maui I would stay at this resort again.

From the time we checked in, to the time we checked out, we had a wonderful time at the Westin Maui Resort and Spa! Our initial contact, Miss Megumi, was such a joy. She upgraded us from the Ocean Tower to the Hokupa'a Tower as a complimentary gift because we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary, and also provided us with Kukui nut leis and some beverage tickets.
The room was nice, clean, and spacious and the view was spectacular. Prior to visiting, I read many reviews and some complaints included thin walls and loud hallways. I didn't find that to be the case at all. We did not hear our neighbors and we were often the only people in the corridors and elevators in our tower.
We rented two beach facing pool cabanas one of the days we were there and my only complaint about those is that I wish that the cabana tents were adjustable or that the cabanas could rotate to account for the sun. I also wouldn't mind the hours being extended either an hour earlier or later to the regular 9-5 hours. We were waiting on hourly by a sweet woman who refreshed our waters and brought us ice buckets and towels. We also had great waiter service for lunch and drinks from the nearby Hale Moʻolelo. The pool area was clean and had ample seating, however, the pool water was freezing! My daughters preferred to spend their time in the ocean, where the water was warmer.
Speaking of ocean, the beach in front of the resort was fantastic. It wasn't very busy, the sand was so soft and fine, and the water was mostly calm or safe. We were able to rent beach chairs for the day there one day but try to get there earlier - you have them for the day and when we were there, the umbrellas had already sold out.
The dining options were plentiful and the only line I had to wait in was the Starbucks line for the people like me who hadn't adjusted to the time change yet and needed a coffee fix early.
The hula show on Saturday morning was great, the grounds were well kept and beautiful, and everyone we met was helpful and kind.
The proximity to Whaler's Village was great, too. There we dined at some of the more popular restaurants, picked up some souvenirs, and grabbed some late night gelato. We traveled with our twin 16 year old daughters and we felt safe to let them roam around the area on their own, to shop and grab a snack.
We really enjoyed our time at The Westin Maui and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Perhaps a call to inquire of the front desk staff.
I am sorry, I do not know the answer.
Yes, but unless you want an absolutely horrible experience, do not accept a room in the Ocean Tower. It is dated and filthy.
