The Pioneer Inn is a perfect find in Lahaina. We had been going for breakfast for many years and decided to experience the hotel. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by the exceptional front desk clerk, we knew we made a great choice.
The Inn has the perfect location on Front St. Our room (#49) was on the second floor with a very large wrap around balcony, 2 rocking chairs and was the perfect spot to people watch. We got take out and ate several meals on the balcony enjoying the activity on the street below.
The room was a decent size (the Inn is the oldest in Hawaii), the bathroom was well appointed, air conditioning worked properly and the bed was comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We always loved the Pioneer Grill in past years but we must say, the new restaurant (first floor facing the harbor) is AMAZING! We enjoyed two breakfasts and lunch there. The new chef has raised the bar exceptionally high, and the staff is top notch. The fruit plate is a work of art. The Ocean Breakfast Bowl and the Crispy Noodle Bowl were favorites!
If you are considering time in Lahaina, enjoy a stay at this quaint, historical, and professionally run Inn! Hats off to the staff!!

Thank you for choosing us on your most recent stay and we agree that our new restaurant Papa’aina is an improvement. Our chef sourced fresh local ingredients whenever possible.

This hotel is such a part of the history of the town that staying here is a must. The whole place just oozes charm and history. It is central to everything and a great place to stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Arrived an hour early and expected a bit of a wait, but on finding out our room had just been cleaned, we were checked in straight away.
The pool/courtyard rooms would be quieter. Yes there is noise from the bars (and the rooster !), but you would be missing out on the views of the mountains. the banyan tree and the harbor. We booked room 36 and It is worth that little bit extra. You can tell it is this room, it is the only room that is described as having 2 lanai balconies. It is on the corner of Front Street and Hotel Street. It is a larger room and has a king sized bed and a wet bar ( a sink next to the coffee/tea and an extra fridge). The two balconies have separate doors to the room, but have no barrier between them. This gives you an extra large outside space. Great for the views and to sit and people watch. It is also at the end of the internal corridor to the rooms, so no noise from people passing by.

We chose the Pioneer Inn for the beginning of our holiday in Maui. It’s an ideal location to catch the ferry to Lanai and boat trips around the islands.
The staff are very welcoming and the reception a font of local knowledge and advice.
Everything is walkable nearby and so we took an Uber from Maui Airport rather than have a hire car. However if you drive they do have parking available.
The hotel has both a colonial history and look and our courtyard room overlooked the pool.
The nearby beach was good and also safe (and relatively shallow) with many learning to body board on the gentle waves slightly further out.
Hot breakfast at the hotel is served from 8am, though the menu might not suit all (it’s more an upmarket brunch offering). There are coffee and items to 'grab and go’ available earlier, especially useful if you are off exploring by ferry.
The rooms were comfortable with ceiling fans and noisy old air-conditioners. They have Coffee making machines and fridges in the rooms along with hair dryer and ironing boards, but no room safes.
However The Pioneer does have character (and a parrot called Alex in the courtyard) and it is an ideal place to base yourself in Lahaina.

We stayed 4 nights at the Pioneer Inn & loved our stay! It is a quaint little hotel in the heart of downtown Lahaina. The staff was very friendly & helpful. The rooms are average with no special amenities. They are set up w/ a small fridge, coffee maker, bath tub/shower, queen size bed & a 32in TV. If you get real hot @ night like me, there is a ceiling fan & a box a/c unit that worked really well. We really enjoyed the balcony/patio set up. There isn't any privacy between you & your neighbor on the patio. But it made for some great socializing w/ folks you wouldn't normally meet, which was fun! We stayed on the Banyon Tree side & highly recommend it. It seems more peaceful than the Front Street side but more exciting than the pool side. We could hear the bands playing music at night, yet far enough away the street noise didn't disturb us at all. The view was beautiful in the morning with the sun on the mountains to your left & the waves crashing on the shore to your right. The staff was great! Just FYI, you need to request room service if you need it, preferably the day before & def before noon that day. The parking lot is about a block away & can be crowded in the middle of the day as it is shared w/ paid parking. The area is great though! There are shops, stores, restaurants & bars all within a few min walk from your room. There's also a restaurant attached to the hotel w/ a full bar as well. The food & the drinks were great (highly recommend the marlin ceviche & coco-chai cooler)! Also, if you want to go whale watching or take the ferry to Lanai, it is literally right out in front of the hotel too. Overall, it is great hotel for the price & located in a wonderful spot in Lahaina to enjoy the town's amenities. Highly recommend this place, especially if you're traveling on a budget!

This hotel has so much character and history, and it’s right on the wharf. It’s close to so many shops, galleries and restaurants, you never run out of choice, and, of course, you get to see spectacular sunsets every
The people running it are lovely, the rooms are kept immaculately clean by housekeeping, and there’s the added bonus of the hotel mascot, Alex, a very chatty and cheeky parrot we would speak to every morning and evening.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend it.

We had breakfast twice at the restaurant in Pioneer Inn. Great food, great value, and great service. Highly recommend!!! Instead of overpriced breakfast at one of the nearby resorts, travel 10-15 minutes for a much better experience.

Just returned from seven days in Maui and am missing every bit of it. As a solo traveler, I found the Pioneer Inn to be perfect for my needs. The ability to walk to stores and restaurants was a plus. I ate at a different place every night! I rented a car for four days and there is convenient parking across the street from the hotel that is free. The ferry to Lanai is right in front of the hotel along with multiple boats departing on excursions. Baby beach is about a 15 minute walk and Kaanapili beach is a about a 10-15 minute Lyft ride. The staff was super friendly and always helpful! I would say the only drawback is the rooms are a little outdated and small but if you aren't spending time in the room then that shouldn't matter. Note, that if you are light sleeper, the ac units in the room are on the loud side. The toiletries are scant so be advised you will have to hit up the Safeway or Food Lion for shampoo, conditioner, etc. With all that said, I would stay at the Best Western again. Hoping to get back to Maui sooner rather than later.

This cute historic hotel is in wonderful shape considering it’s over 100 years old. Be sure to ask about the history of the hotel and look at all the history Lahaina has to offer.
The rooms are fairly compact being a historic hotel but the spacious individual lanais with rocking chairs overlooking the courtyard make a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the old Hawaiian charm, and are nearly the size of a room!
Beds are very comfortable and definitely great for a good nights sleep. My room on the courtyard side was very quiet.
Just outside the hotel within a block or two is everything you could need, so this hotel is a great location. Numerous shops, eateries and a few parks share the same beautiful historic street as the hotel. You can walk everywhere. There’s also a harbor with lots of excursion options adjacent to the hotel.
The staff here is wonderful and the service feels very personal. They checked in with me every time I saw them, wanting to be sure everything with my stay was great. Proactively made suggestions to enhance my stay!

The Inn is historic (old), but is kept very nicely. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. The restaurant is good. Using the 15% discount at the restaurant requires you to use a ticket BEFORE the bill comes. Hostess was put out that her manager has to key in the discount. You'll need to get another discount card after each meal. The food is decent. The rooms along the streets are noisy. You will hear bars and music until 2 am. Then there is the pedestrian, vehicle, delivery truck, leaf blowers, and banyon tree bird noise. It isn't real bad, but it is there. No elevators so plan on stairs. It isn't a deal breaker, but don't be shocked.

This hotel is at the waterfront and across from the Banyan Park. Perfect location if you are staying in Lahaina and doing things here. The hotel was the first one built here and there is a restaurant attached downstairs. Rooms are large and there is a balcony you can sit on although there is no separation from your neighbors but that is ok. The hotel gives you a card to get 15% off in the dining room for food.
The cons are there is no parking at the hotel but you have to park in public parking that you get with the hotel. It doesn't cost you but you need to hang the tag on the mirror or get a ticket. It is a block away so not bad but you may end up at busy times not finding a spot. They have another spot you can park a little further away.
Unlading and loading luggage at the hotel can be a chore since the ferry from Lanai comes in and taxis and pick ups take the area for a little while.
The service at the front desk was top notch but hte room cleaning was lacking. The room was not cleaned up a couple of times while we were there adn once the maid came after I told her we weren't ready yet. It wast while my wife was still in the bathroom, she made the bed gave me the towels and left. Trash not dumped or coffee replace.
The have a 40 year old parrot there that talks and whistles. My wife talked to him every day and got him whistling a couple of times. It was funny to watch.
The hotel is a little pricy but with this location it probably isn't out of line.

Yes, this hotel is very accommodating.
There's not really a "beach" like you picture when you imagine a Hawaiian Beach. There's a couple small beaches sprinkled around but no longer than a football field, if that. That said, Kaanapali is a 15min drive from hotel & they have all you come to expect from Hawaii. But it's way more expensive to stay there. We enjoyed the excitement, the shops & the nightlife in the area of hotel. And then just Uber'd to Kaanapali to relax on the beach. Heads up, reserve an Uber because not once was ever one available but always showed up if we reserved a time. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay there!
There is no continental breakfast or included food with the room. There is a bar/restaurant attached that has good food & drinks. They serve breakfast and lunch options and are open till 2pm I believe.
