This was my first trip to Maui. I went to Oahu 10 years ago and wanted to experience another island. The Kaleialoha Condo was a perfect choice for me. It is a beautiful complex right next to the ocean. It was a treat going to sleep at night and waking up to the ocean waves slapping against the shore. My unit had a beautiful balcony facing the ocean. It also had a washer/dryer in the it. The kitchen was fully equipped. The bedroom was large with a comfortable bed. The distance to downtown Lahaina was convenient.

The view is absolutely perfect! The unit is quite spacious for a 1 bedroom. The master bed is VERY comfy and has the BEST pillows. The condos are perfectly located beachfront. You have your own private beach, perfect for snorkeling and watching the honu (sea turtles) swim back and forth. We will definitely stay here again! Lonelle is GREAT!

Having lived in San Francisco all my life and being an incurable romantic, I thought my city was the best place to spend a honeymoon, impress that special partner, or just get away from the mainland and maybe meet new friends or someone new. Trips to every major US city continued to prove me right, until I went to Maui and stayed at the Kaleialoha. I fell in love all over again with life, nature, and my wife. The building is small, only 26 condos, but that means the beach, which is just 40 feet behind the building, is never crowded and feels like its all yours most of the time. Everything is done with such good taste--tiki torches, BBQ's, little hidden garden tables, and a beutiful manicured lawn and beach for lounging, tanning, snorkeling, and fishing. The best thing about the Kaleialoha is that every unit is so close to the beach that you always hear the waves as they land (or crash, sometimes) onto the beach. Our unit had a bedroom in the back, but we immediately moved our couch up to the lanai and folded it out, so we could sleep with the waves. Also, each condo comes with everything you need--blenders, utensils, dishes, tools to deal with island fruit and nuts, microwave, fridge, disposal, dishwasher--everything. By now, I've stayed there 4 times, each time in a different unit, and they were all wonderful. And the price, as part of a travel agent's package, was really affordable--we weren't even sure how they could do it and keep everything so clean and in good order, but they do. The Kaleialoha condos are so nice (it has a pool too, but we never used it with the beach right there!--children seemed to enjoy it though) that you don't really need to ever leave. But its so close to Lahaina, corner stores, a farmer's market, and several fancy restaurants, that you have plenty of entertainment within walking distance. Lahaina is a little further--maybe 2 miles, but it makes a nice 30 minute walk down the beach, and it has all the cool tours, snorkeling tours, sightseeing tours, ev
uge fish and massive coral reefs up close. I've checked out most of the Maui resorts, and this one is my favorite because it is small, private, all furnished condos so it really feels like home, extensive cable TV for that movie and mai-tai night when its drizzling outside in February, and the agents at the front desk are so helpful with their advice and coupons for activities. Al in all, I love it and can't wait to go back for the fifth time!

Stayed here third week of June. Older building on the outside, owners of the condo/building maintenance have kept the suite in good ocndiiton. Great view overlooking the water, however windows to the courtyard are glass plates whic you turn to open/close. so you have a terrible leakage of sound from the outside, wouldn't want to stay here with a driving rain. Noticed that due to these type of windows which go from floor to ceiling, it would allow for bugs to get in easily, so signs say to throw out garbage ASAP, well it no wonder, I saw small ants crawling on the sofa, bathroom and kichen counter and even on the master bed. You have to hope the people who stayed before you didn't eat in bed, or on the couch, unles you liek sharing your bed. Its no wonder there was a can of Raid under the sink. I wouldn't stay here again.

Response from lonellejean, RENTAL MANAGER at Kaleialoha Condominiums
Responded Jun 13, 2007
The onsite vacation office at the Kaleialoha takes great pride in each of the 18 units we represent. There are other units here managed by either offsite companies or individuals which we have no control over. While I have occasionally seen the small "sugar ants" mentioned I have never found any evidence of them in the furnishings, beds etc. We are, after all, on a tropical island and do treat for these things on a regular basis. The overall ambiance, cleanliness, and beautiful views we have here more than compensate for the small, fellow creatures we share the earth with.

My husband and I stayed at Kaleialoha in November, 2004, for one week. We had chosen our unit after looking at the Kaleialoha website, which has pictures and video of each unit. We stayed on the top floor in a one bedroom oceanfront unit. The unit was spacious, nicely decorated and well-kept. It had a wall air conditioner in the living room, which normally we wouldn't have used, but they were having very hot weather that week (in the 90's) so we were happy to have it. The air conditioning did not reach the bedroom very well, but by evening there was a cooling breeze in the bedroom (we were on the end so we had lots of windows in the bedroom). We were lulled to sleep by the surf every night! The ocean view from the lanai was gorgeous, with both Molokai and Lanai visible on clear days. The grounds were also well-kept, with a place to barbecue and places to sit and enjoy your meal. There was no beach when we were there, but there was a small one at the complex next door, which some people were using. There was a lawn with lots of lounge chairs and tables.
The pool is not oceanfront; it is fenced in near the parking lot - I never saw anyone using it, but it looked to be a good size.
Kaleialoha is not a luxurious resort, but you are not paying resort prices! If you want golfing, tennis, and other resort amenities you need to stay somewhere else. However, it is a quick drive to Kaanapali Beach (where you can swim and walk along the beach walk) and several other beautiful swimming and snorkeling beaches, such as Kapalua and Napili. All in all, we found Kaleialoha to be a pleasant, quiet place to relax after a long day.

this will be our second time here. It is very quiet and oceanfront. If you love to wake up to the ocean this is the place to stay. Condos are clean and well kept even though it is an older building. There is not a good swimming beach & the pool is in the front of the building but other than that it is economical.

PROS:
1. You are only a few feet from the ocean--so when you first arrive & open the door you have this great view of the ocean thru the lanai.
2. Condo was well stocked with every utensil you would need to cook a meal. That is one of the main reasons one does get a condo--to save money by cooking meals.
3. This condo had beach chairs, beach towels, & also snorkel equipment.
4. Condo was recently updated--new granite countertops & remodeled bathroom.
5. Washer & dryer was in the condo.
6. Resturants & markets were nearby.
7. Kapalua & Napali beach are right up the road.
8. Price.
Cons
1. There is not a swimming sandy beach out front.
2. This is not a resort--if you want a ton of services, then you should stay at a resort.
3. There is a air conditioner in the living room, your bedroom is in the back. We found if we left the patio doors open during the day it did cool down the unit.
4. You had assigned parking space, but it was super tight between the parking spaces.
Overall
This is for people that like being right on the ocean & staying somewhere without spending a great amount of money. This unit had everything you needed to cook or go to the beach, but then who goes to Maui to spend all day at a condo.

It’s the last morning of our fourth stay at Kaleialoha Oceanfront Condos, and we’ve booked for next year through Lonnie, the property manager, who is easy to work with. Kaleialoha has a fabulous location and is a good value, especially during the Super Saver April 16 – Dec. 19 dates. (See the individual units at www.mauicondosoceanfront.com.)

We’ve stayed in three different units (which are individually owned), and they’ve all been nice, but we especially enjoy one of the corner units because there’s extra louvered windows along the living room and bedroom wall which let in lots of light, breezes, and views. The corner units generally don’t have AC, but we haven’t missed it. We appreciate having a washer/dryer in the unit and parking at no extra charge.

Kaleialoha was built in 1973, an advantage over newer buildings because it’s built closer to the ocean than codes allow now. The building and grounds are well maintained. Condos are at three price levels: Deluxe (clean and in good shape but not updated), Superior (some nice updating), and Ultra (high end updating). We’d suggest going at least to the Superior level.

Here’s the story of how we got started at Kaleialoha: Five years ago, we booked an “oceanfront one-bedroom” at a Honokowai condo hotel (that I decline to name) and when we checked in, they gave us a studio oceanfront. When we went back to the desk, the desk clerk said they considered studios and one-bedrooms the same (!) even though what we had paid for was clearly stated on the confirmation. She offered another unit that, yes, was one bedroom, but to see the ocean from this supposed “oceanfront” room, you had to look over the roofs of other buildings plus the furniture and décor looked like a Motel 6. We stayed in the studio because it was truly oceanfront with attractive décor, but I got on the computer, checked TripAdvisor for Specialty Lodging in the area and made a list. Then one afternoon, we started on the north end of the Honokowai/Kahana/Napili area and walked about 20 properties. We wanted a place that looked nice and was dead-on oceanfront with no second row of units, U-shaped complexes, etc. so there was no possibility of a bait-and-switch. There are many nice properties in the area, but we picked Kaleialoha because it ticked all the boxes, was rated highly on TripAdvisor, and fit our budget. It doesn’t have tennis courts or an Olympic-sized pool, but we’re not going to use amenities like that, so we don’t want to pay for them. What we wanted was a nice one-bedroom unit with fabulous oceanfront views, and that’s what Kaleialoha has given us. We are happy repeat guests.

The condo, overall, was very nice. The bed was super comfortable. There are nice TVs in both the bedroom and the living room, and the kitchen is stocked with every utensil you can think of. There are plenty of beach items, such as chairs, cooler, toys, etc. The only problem was that the microwave didn't work. It would turn on for 2-3 seconds then stop, no matter how you programmed it. Not a huge deal for us but worth a mention so that it can be replaced or fixed.

The air conditioner worked very well. It runs by remote control and gets very, very cold. However, there is only the one and you pretty much have to get the living room and kitchen to the freezing point in order to get the bedroom in the back of the condo cool enough. Fortunately, there is a ceiling fan in the bedroom.

Now, the reason we wouldn't stay there again? Misrepresentation of the location, bordering on false advertisement. The description says that it is mere feet from the ocean, which is true, and near a beach, which is NOT true. Unless you like to hike a mile loaded down with beach supplies, you have to drive to even a decent beach, and free parking is rare and paid parking is $6 per hour. It's exactly like the picture shows: the ocean is there, and there are lawn chairs, but after that, it's just rocks and ocean. There is a small sandy spot off to the left, but the tide typically come up to the wall, so if you would lie there, you'd be partially underwater most of the time.

If the condo truly WAS within walking distance of a beach, we would stay there again, but alas, it is not. Just a warning.

We stayed in Unit 403 which we booked on vrbo. Many good things about this unit/location:
1. sofabed for the boys
2. air conditioning + fans
3. refrigerator/full kitchen, also includes washer/dryer in unit!
4. hawaii feel decor
5. convenient elevator
6. nice grill by the ocean
7. reasonable pool
8. DVD library in the laundry room (kids movies too!)
9. Near to slappy cakes restaurant (we went twice)

Some not great things that didn't matter much to us:
1. beach is next door, no beach in front
2. parking is a little tight. (get a smaller car!)
3. the "farmers market" nearby is not anything like the farmers' market we have in california, it's just a grocery store called "farmers market".
4. a little bit far north for visiting some of the sights to the east and south
5. the portable fan we found was broken and one of the chairs had a loose leg

I stayed in 204 Thanksgiving week. There was a coffee maker we used. I don’t know about grinder as my cousin made the coffee. They have most everything you’ll need with toaster, all utensils, pans, etc. The beach gear is on the balcony with snorkels, fins, coolers, boogie boards, beach chairs, etc. They really do take care of you!

No there is not a beach. You can access the ocean by a small area but it's not sandy or considered a beach.
