It was a horrendous hotel experience. We ran into numerous issues, please read ahead and book at your own risk: 1. The day we checked in, we experienced loss of power and their backup generator also “conveniently” not working. It was apparently due to a nearby accident but all surrounding hotels were bright with no issues. 2. Our room keys could not be generated due to the power loss, so we had to be escorted to our room by the staff. The staff took us to TWO occupied rooms with guests inside. These were incredibly rude and awkward moments. We then had to go all the way back to the reception desk with our luggages to get the correct room number. The staff promised that the keys would be sent to our room once the power is back up, that didn't happen. We collected it ourselves on the second day. 3. The AC did not work automatically, we woke up every hour in sweats to manually turn it on. No one came to fix it even after we told the hotel staff. 4. The fan made noisy sounds throughout the night. 5. Early loud hotel construction (5am-7am). Imagine a nonstop squeaky sound of teeth cleanings at a Dental Office. 6. The room smelled moldy and moist. Dirty and stained pillow cases. Once we checked in, my skin started having rashes and itchy sensation. I read other reviewers also experienced this issue with their body. 7. No elevator or beach towels (in a "beach hotel"). 8. Bad soundproof between rooms. We could clearly hear people walking/talking from upstairs and room next door. 9. The clock in our room was 3 hours ahead, room service didn’t bother to correct it. 10. Noisy pipes in the bathroom. Sounded like there was an animal stuck inside :( 11. We didn’t get the room I requested, the staff (named Lisa) said it was an upgrade. She sounded very condescending as if I didn't know the difference between an ocean view and a partial ocean view. I told them I didn't want the upgrade but they insisted it's an upgrade and hung up on me. 12. We later understood that the difference between standard and premium rooms means old and newly renovated. The photos are outrageously and GROSSLY misleading and not clearly stated in the description. *****Be extra aware and avoid the standard rooms.***** I can't comment on the premium rooms and I want to be be fair about this review. Needless to say, it was vacation went wrong. We loved Maui but couldn't wait to leave due to this experience. This hotel is lacked of management, customer service, backup plans, hotel etiquette/manner, etc. If you only care about location, this hotel is conveniently located near the Whaler Village. Premium rooms might be newly renovated, but I’d still highly advise you to stay away from the hotel.

I wanted to just share my experience and a few photos to help anyone else who will be traveling soon. I had so much anxiety before our trip because of other posts about construction and noise. I am happy to tell you the construction seems to be 95 percent finished. I have not been bothered by any noise at all.the grounds are beautiful and it looks like the new grass planted near the remodeled rooms is growing in nicely. We are staying in an older room with a partial ocean view on the first floor. I knew I was booking an older room so I am fine with it. I enjoy the older traditional decor. It is little worn but clean and honestly we just sleep here. The bed is comfortable. I enjoy the convenience of the first floor and would recommend it if possible. The restaurant is sapose to open June 30 and itvlooks great. I saw staff training for the new menu. Make a reservation because it will be a popular spot with such a great view. All the staff we have encountered has been super friendly and welcoming. The beach is so wonderful. Stop worrying and enjoy one of the best locations you could find. Thank you Kaanapali Beach Hotel, we are having a great vacation.

I absolutely loved my stay here. The hotel was a simple, clean, well organized, non glam place. There seem to be fewer rooms which leads to no crowded areas. The pool was wide open and help at the various desks easy to get to. The staff are extremely nice! You step right off the property and straight into the beach. You can walk five minutes one way to get to Whalers Village or five minutes the other way to Black Rock. The beach right outside is not crowded at all and you can rent any equipment you need for the beach. The property is well landscaped with many shaded areas if wanted to take pool lounge chairs to. I strongly recommend staying here.

The room: Super misleading listing on Expedia, the rooms looked nothing like what we booked. 70s-era room complete with carpet stains, dirty bathroom tiles, and no working WiFi. Trash bags piled outside the room. 3rd floor walk-up with no elevator. The property: Old/outdated. No food/drink service at the pool (walk-up bar served me their last 2 warm beers). Asked everywhere for a beach towel and eventually they directed me to the bowels of the building to visit housekeeping myself. Tiny pool with a few beat-up lounge chairs that looked about 20 years past their prime. In summary: we left after about an hour. The location is great but the room was really far from expectations, the property was a mess, amenities were a total joke, and the service was amateur hour.

We booked this hotel through a travel agent for our first trip to Maui for six nights. This is an older hotel - the first resort in the area - and it shows. They have a good location and the staff is friendly. The rooms are good size and we had a direct ocean view, which we appreciated. AC was good as was the water pressure, hot water, and in-room fridge. They are building a new restaurant in the middle of the courtyard, so from 9 AM to about 6 PM we had construction noises. We were not notified ahead of time, which would have been nice. Also, their parking garage is TIGHT, and with the top floor blocked off and the bottom floor dedicated to the construction, finding a parking space was often a challenge - and fitting our Nissan Rogue SUV into it was even more difficult! The service was good, but we did have a challenge with the restaurant. We wanted to have dinner but they said they had no room. I could see, with no exaggeration, 10 tables that were empty. When I asked, they said some of them were reserved for the next half-hour - but not all. At the dinner hour the restaurant was routinely about 65% full but would not seat us. So we found other places to eat. If you are new to Maui keep in mind that the island is BIG. The Ka'anapali area is 45 minutes minimum from the airport, so if you want to go anywhere other than your resort or the nearby town of Lahaina (both nice), expect a drive. All told, if I visit Maui again, I likely won't stay here just because of the location. But if someone told me I HAD to stay here to go to Maui I'd still jump at the chance.
