The Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa stands out for its prime location and range of amenities, including pools and beach access, that guests find enjoyable. While many appreciate the modern, spacious rooms with ocean views, some areas are criticized for feeling outdated.
Reviewers often praise the hotel's cleanliness and professional service, although there are occasional mentions of housekeeping inconsistencies and slow assistance. However, some travelers advise that the value may not match the high prices, and recommend preparing for potential construction noise.

From the time you enter the atrium lobby that is spectacular to opening the door of a wonderful renovated room, the experience at the Hyatt Regency Maui is truly special. It is worth spending a few extra dollars because the property is situated right on the water, the staff/service is fantastic and the dining experience at Japengo is amazing. My wife and I cannot wait to go back with the rest of our family. Thank you to the entire Hyatt staff!

I am kind of torn here. On one hand, this hotel has a very nice territory and we all enjoyed the pool, the beach, the boardwalk, the penguins.
We got a resort view room on the second floor but we could actually see the ocean from our lanai - it was a much better view than expected although a little noisy. Our room has been renovated I guess - did not notice anything broken there except the balcony door that used to get stuck but that was promptly fixed.
The only great restaurant at the hotel is Japengo, others are mostly okay. They are all pretty expensive but it is kind of true of Maui overall. There are a lot of restaurants a short walk away on the boardwalk in Whaler's village.
On the other hand, we had major issues with housekeeping. Essentially what happens is that if you have the "do not disturb" sign at your room at any time during the day, your room is not going to get cleaned. Our room also never got cleaned in the morning, only in the afternoon which is not ideal. I understand that we stayed there in the very peak time but as many reviewers here mentioned, it did not look like hotel management cared about this issue a lot.

Our stay at the Hyatt was amazing from the start! We were greeted with leis...shells for my gentlemen and plumeria for myself. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and the hotel not only gave us a bottle of champagne but our room greeted us with a special anniversary welcome too (see pics)!
The grounds were immaculate and included swans, flamingos, and penguins. Make sure you set time aside to use the swimming pools, especially if you have children. The beach from the Hyatt all the way up to Black Rock is spectacular! The closer you get to Black Rock, via the beach or boardwalk, the busier it seems to get. Therefore, the Hyatt's beach area was fairly quiet. 🥰 It is about a 10 minute walk to Whaler's Village which is less than half way to Black Rock.
We stayed in a standard room with one queen and one double bed. The bathroom area was spacious. I loved that the toilet and shower were a separate room and the sink countertop was large. There was also an island countertop which was perfect for setting out breakfast, snacks, and room service pizza. The room service pizza was just ok and expensive. My only other objection was the difficulty in adding a day to our reservation. We decided to fly a day earlier and our room was available for that date, but if I would have modified our existing reservation, it would have changed the price for each of the nights we were already booked. This meant we would have had to pay more than double for each of the nights we already booked. If I would have booked the extra night individually, it would have cost almost the same amount in the end. The Hyatt ended up loosing our business for a night because of this. I purposely booked early to get a good rate and didn't want to loose that. This situation almost cost them their 5 star rating from me. I would stay here in the future; however, I would book extra nights from the start and cancel any nights I didn't need at a later date.

well aperanetly there is a large construction project that was kicking off the day of our check in;main entrance and drive are shut down. all guests were being diverted to far side valet desk for check in. this is where we eventually met rude valet that sent us on a wild goose chase of a self park lot that didnt exist. We called front desk twice from our car, after an hour calling and driving around we ended back at valet trying to check in and park-- Forced valet is the only check in available $32 per day- outrageous. agrevated guests all over(us included) we were also ensured no construsction in our room location. guess what ; LOUD construction in the room next to ours and all over our floor of rooms. we were awoke to loud tile saws and grinders, drills etc... called front desk with NO response and a hangup... we were Not informed of construction at booking or even once before check in. recommend to AVOID this place until they are back to normal at least.

My family returned to this hotel after a 15 year hiatus. We elected to stay here based on our previous enjoyable stay and the good facilities at the gym. (Thanks for those Peloton bikes, however rusty).
Our rooms were motel-quality with door frames with peeling veneers, popcorn ceilings, and dated furnishings. Equally bad was the "club" option, which was a food and beverage service on the first floor. Morning dishes were made from powdered eggs-no kidding-even the scrambled eggs. There was some mystery white meat on the bar with some cheeses and fresh fruit. The expresso machine worked sporadically. The club room was crowded with lots of traffic.
Besides our motel room, the lobby space with the beautiful view has become a shopping mall that includes a Macy's, a jewelry store, and other tourist shops with loud piped in music. The deli doesn't take room charges.
The pool area was the biggest disappointment. A second pool has become a pond for domesticated birds, leaving only a main pool with a kiddie pool, a water slide, and an adults only pool. The pool chairs were tightly spaced, just inches separating one chair from another. The pool deck was dirty with orange and lemon wedges and other detritus from cocktails littering the deck. Gross.
The adult pool had Hawaiian music playing all day and the best chairs reserved for Hyatt Residence guests.
One pool guest at the crowded main pool brought his own boom box, and despite requests from guests and staff, continued to play it audibly all afternoon. I hope Security got him to turn it off, though I had left in disgust. Getting towels with a required card and having to return the towels myself played to the overall motel v, limited services vibe of the place.
The beach and the views from our high level floor were gorgeous.

This was the best vacation I have ever experienced! Beautiful island, wonderful people, amazing resort!! Our family traveled to Maui for our 25th wedding anniversary in November. The concierge helped me set up dining and excursions before we arrived.
Our room had a wonderful view of the Pacific and we went to sleep and awoke to the sounds of the surf. The beds were very comfortable and the room was spacious. It boasted a refrigerator and a microwave was delivered upon request. Housekeeping staff was so gracious and kind, accommodating us with extra towels and toiletries as needed. Another amenity was the filtered water water available near the ice machines. The hotel provided refillable water bottles to take to the pool, beach, and on the town.
The pool was warm, wonderful, and even had a swim up bar and slide. What’s more, you could order lunch at the poolside restaurant or have it delivered to your lounge chair! The shaved ice stand was a must do every day for my kids!
The resort decor was tropical, with lovely flowers, foliage, swans and ducks, and even penguins living in the foyer! The resort was convenient to town, restaurants, Whalers Wharf, and beautiful landscapes! In addition, there were shops, quick pick food and grocery stores, and even a Macy’s! The restaurants were amazing- food, ambiance, and, in particular, the service.
The people we met in our travels, both visitors and locals, were enthusiastic, laid back, and fun. My daughter rented a paddle board at the resort, which also had snorkel gear and other seaside garb available. There were shops, restaurants, and conference space (college basketball tournament promo and teams using when we were there) as well as a full service spa on site. The outdoor luau with dinner was a fun Hawaiian experience housed at the resort as well.
Overall, I would give this resort as many stars as possible (5+++)! I can’t wait to return! Mahalo Hyatt Regency Maui for an unforgettable stay!

Wow! My husband and I were not ready to leave the Hyatt after our 6-night stay for our postponed honeymoon! We were originally supposed to visit in May 2020, but delayed to February 2021 due to the pandemic and got some well-deserved perks — including the fact the hotel was less than 50% full (less crowds at the pool and restaurants) and we got placed in one of the renovated rooms (which would’ve been under construction if we came on our original date). The resort is one of the largest on Kaanapali Beach and has a beautiful view of Lanai. We could NOT get over how beautiful the mountains looked when just the right sunlight hit it!
Upon arrival, we were given a bottle of celebratory champagne and that set the tone for the rest of our trip. We loved the view from our balcony in the Lahaina Tower overlooking the gardens with waterfalls, swans, flamingos, ducks and baby chicks. We prepaid for our breakfast, so we enjoyed the buffet every morning before starting our day. The staff was always incredibly friendly and accommodating.
The pool was beautifully maintained and my husband (a kid at heart) enjoyed going down the slide every chance he could. Unfortunately the swim-up bar in the cave (one of the main features that attracted us to the resort) was closed due to COVID, but we were able to enjoy poolside drinks from the wait staff.
On our final night, we dined at Japengo which had THE freshest sushi we’ve ever tasted, for a pretty affordable price (for Hawaii standards).
We are already planning our next trip back to Maui and hope we can splurge for the Hyatt like we did for our honeymoon!

The property is nice and the people/staff are very friendly. The grounds are very well maintained and beautiful, the pool area is great for families and accommodates a lot of people. It is very pleasant and often doesn't feel like a hotel when walking the grounds of the Hyatt
My wife and I stayed here in February for our anniversary. We used Hyatt reward points to book our stay, which resulted in having to switch rooms midway through our stay. The only problem was, we got a queen size bed in our first room, but at 6'4" 260lbs, I don't exactly fit...lol. we tried to get a room with a king, they even told us to have our bags ready by the door and they would move us while we were on an excursion. We did this, packed our stuff and left it by the door, but never got moved. Asked if we were still going to get it, they said they had to clean it. So we went up to take a nap and wait for the room. When we woke up 90 min later and called, they said they gave the room away because we only had 10 minutes to claim it once ready (this was not explained to us. Ever). So, after being pissed off for about 30 min, we realized we were in Maui and went for a Mai Tai.
I would still recommend this place, just know that if you ask for a king bed or a different room for any reason, stand by the front desk until it's ready or you might not get it

Hotel rooms were average. The main complaint I have with the rooms is the tiny bathroom. The sink area and bathtub are separated so there's no place to change. The lobby is filled with birds, which is fine considering the lobby is technically outdoors. However, there's not much in the lobby. It's outdated and it's not a relaxing atmosphere. Location is good since it's located on the beach, but I would stay at the Westin Hotel next time since I visited a friend there and was impressed by how much more modern the Westin hotel was. Furthermore, the Hyatt restaurant, which was called the Swan Court was not good. We had the buffet, which was expensive and there were flocks of birds trying to eat the food on the table every minute. Buffet was not impressive, it's mostly things you would find at a Continental breakfast at a 3 star hotel. The penguins were cool and the location was decent. Hotel staff were also friendly and accommodating. Overall, it's not a bad choice, but it definitely has issues and renovations are needed to compete with the other hotels on the block.

Hotel was beautiful, rooms were very comfortable, staff all nice. However, parking was terrible (Valet only, self-park unavailable), took a long time to get the car back and cost extra money for tips. Food options were completely booked without a reservation (Japengo and Steakhouse) and overpriced. Lack of healthy options at the poolside place. Poolside chairs often all occupied by unoccupied towels. No beach chairs. Poolside cabanas only available for rent (none free), and only available to rent all day for $100 (an hourly rental option would make more sense, who wants to stay poolside 24 hours?). We also traveled a lot outside of the resort (Mt. Haleakala, Road to Hana, Kanapali coastal trail, Wailea beach), so didn't maximize the value of sitting at a resort. Still, little extra costs for everything (pool equipment, beach equipment, parking) not included in the extra resort fee of $32/day and lack of beach umbrella seating would make me look elsewhere even for the resort experience.
