The Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa garners praise for its cleanliness and comprehensive amenities, such as family-friendly pools, diverse dining, and wildlife experiences. Wonderful property right on the ocean! Outstanding service throughout. Staff went out of thier way to make sure we enjoyed our time on Maui even though the area is still reeling from the Lahinha fires of this past August.

Hotel's Favorite
Booked a package through Costco… great price and value for an ocean front room with airfare, rental car, free breakfast buffet for 2 per day and a $250 dining credit included. Our family of 4 loved our week long stay at the Hyatt! I spent months researching resort reviews before selecting the Hyatt which seemed to have the most consistent positive reviews and most of our “must have” features when selecting a hotel. Here are some things we loved about this resort: 1. Two Queen beds. Most other hotels had doubles. 2. Fantastic storage space for 2 adults and two teenage girls. There was plenty of closet space as well as lots of drawers for us to completely unpack all of our luggage and hide the suitcases under the beds. This is unique feature for most standard rooms. It really helped us feel completely settled in and was so nice not to be tripping over 4 pieces of luggage in our rooms. 3. Great bathroom with lots of shelf’s to put away 3 girls makeup bags and toiletries. Lots of counter space and more storage under the sinks too. Mirror was well lit and we enjoyed that the shower and toilet were in a separate room so hubby could shower and not steam up our mirror! 4. The hotel grounds are beautiful and the pool is open 24hours and heated! Not super warm but nice enough that it was still refreshing in the heat and no goose bumps! Many other hotels do not heat their pools. The pool slide was fun. Pool service was always friendly. Sometimes we had a longer wait than ideal because they were busy but our servers were always friendly and pleasant. We rented a cabana one day and a day bed another day so we had zero pressure of coming down early to find chairs. The cabana day was awesome. Beautiful and relaxing view of the ocean. We even left a few times for a beach walk and a Lei making class. It was nice to come and go and have a home base to order food and drinks and nap in the shade. They do provide 4 extra lounge chairs you can pull around the side of the cabana if you want to get some sun as well. A couple other days we would come out early and grab a couple chairs without issue. If you came out later in the morning it would definitely be more challenging to find chairs but even on the days we came out in the afternoon, we always found something, even if it was further away from the pool. 5. We loved that you could walk to whalers village. About 15 min from Hyatt. We got sick of sweating so a couple times we just Uber’d over and that was quick and easy. My girls loved shopping there. We really enjoyed eating at Monkeypod and Hula grill. We also did the Sea Maui dinner cruise which takes off from there, so this was a very convenient location. 6. We enjoyed the convenience of the pool towel kiosks around our hotel. This was a super easy way to grab and dispose of our daily towels. Very efficient system! We also liked that they give you a wristband you wear that serve as a waterproof room key. 7. The staff were helpful and friendly and the hotel grounds were gorgeous. We would let our teens walk around on the resort together and always felt safe. We loved the birds and penguins and the girls loved having the shaved ice on site as well as the convenient gift shop for quick snacks. We loved the coffee place too. Sometimes there were long lines but they moved quickly. We often enjoyed some delicious pastries and specialty coffee on our room balcony in the morning. 8. Location is great. We could walk if we wanted to whalers village but on a couple days we took our rental car to Lahaina, to the Surfing Goat Farm in Upcountry, to the Costco food trucks, and Fleming Beach. 9. Great staff. Our bellman gave us a full tour of the property after we checked in. We loved getting the fresh Leis to wear. We were pleasantly surprised that they had left fresh flowers and a card on our beds to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Such a nice gesture many hotels don’t offer anymore. Other observations : 1. Yes the beach area is pretty narrow right in front of the hotel. A fact many other reviewers have already mentioned. But honestly, you can just walk 5-10 minutes to your right and find great beach spots very near our hotel. The beach front issue was not a dealbreaker for us, especially with all the other outstanding features the Hyatt offered. 2. We loved our ocean front room. The views were spectacular. We were on floor 15, which is actually the second floor of the hotel. We were in the center tower in the middle of the resort, directly over the pool and special event lawn area. Some have complained about the noise level from weddings, etc. We stayed 6 nights (Tuesday through Monday) and encountered this issue one night only. There was a corporate sales award event that was extremely loud … they had loud drums with dancers and lots of very loud speeches over the microphone. Even with our sliding door closed and the tv full volume we could hear it all like it was inside our room. It was actually pretty comical since the speeches we were listening too were almost cult level crazy but that’s besides the point! This would have been very annoying if it has gone on all night but fortunately they wrapped up around 10 pm which we thought was completely reasonable. The other wedding that happened our week was in the day time so other than seeing their beautiful set up below us, we weren’t affected at all. I would advise if you are super sensitive to noise and like to go to sleep early, ask for a room further away from all the action. For us it was a non issue. 3. Some have complained about the Buffet. The Costco package we got came with two breakfast buffet a day and if you didn’t use them, you lost them for the day. So our fam of 4 would rotate daily with 2 of us ordering off the menu instead. The buffet was fine. Nothing over the top great but not bad either. Kids liked the options. And yes, overpriced but welcome to everything in Maui. . But let me tell you, the items we got off the menu were fantastic. The eggs Benedict was great and the Kahulua pork hash was so delicious we ordered 3 times while we were there! Ranking of area places we ate from most loved to least : 1. Monkeypod 2 Hula grill 3. Down the Hatch 4. Umalu at hotel (loved the poke nachos and hurricane fries). Pasta and pizza were tasty too. 5. Japengo. (Just okay, not worth the money spent…. We’d go to monkey pod again instead) Sorry for the long review, but I appreciated and relied on other review for months while we were planning, I thought I should return the favor for anyone who likes details like I do, especially when it comes to the rooms! This was by far the most expensive family vacation we’ve ever taken. Costco was an excellent value and we compared the cost of buying each part separately and Costco will save hundreds if not thousands when you bundle airfare and rental car. Maui is outrageously expensive but we knew that when we were saving up for this experience. Whatever you think your “spending budget” is for food, drinks and activities, just double it! Lol. Having said all that, we had such a fun vacation and loved this resort. We would absolutely Recommend to families looking at staying at a resort.

We liked that the hotel was down a ways from Whalers Village - quieter & less crowded but made for a nice walking distance to go there. The beach isn’t as nice directly in front of this hotel but only a short walk to the wider nicer beach area. Our room was very clean & comfortable with great bathroom set up. The housekeeping & all staff were very nice. If we return to West Maui will probably stay here again!

This Hyatt Resort on the southernmost point of Kaanapali, HI is a must stay. Rooms are premium with great views, amenities are varied and plentiful, and Food and drinks were excellent. The only downside is the timing of the shops that are open in the mall are shorter than at Whaler's Village. There needs to be more shopping variety and longer late night hours.

If you want to enjoy the beauty and aloha spirit of Maui, come stay at The Hyatt Regency Maui. You'll have the option of a beautiful ocean-front room, great service, comfortable and partially covered pool area, restaurants with different specialties, the convenience of a short 15 minute walk to Whaler's Village for shopping and dining, and a staff that is friendly and hospitable. I've been staying there for so many years, and I've always had a wonderful time!

I booked this reservation well in advance and used extra points for club lounge. When we got to the resort staffing was sparse, areas were closed down and the club lounge was being used by Red Cross so that was closed. The grotto of the pool was closed which is a main attraction, there was lots of construction. We tried signing up the kids for ukulele, the person teaching those was gone. We tried to get kids a haircut, they didn’t have anyone on site for the week for that. The mermaid that’s there on Tuesdays was off site, and another star gazing tour was cancelled. The elevators were incredibly slow, we had numerous key issues and we booked two rooms on one account and they had us on completely separate floors. I emailed the resort asking for the incremental amount of points I used for the club lounge to be refunded And they emailed me back saying they gave us free breakfast so they wouldn’t do anything. Free breakfast is just a portion of the club benefits and given all of the lack of staffing mentioned above I felt like it should have been an easy give on their end.

During our visit, there was some pool construction underway. However, we loved the 24 hour access to the pools and towel service. It made it much easier to enjoy our time and relax. The pool looked out on the ocean and had a beautiful view of Molokai. The penguins and swans were great to watch as well. Beautiful resort and very relaxing.

Have been coming here for years. Always a fabulous experience. Remodeled rooms are very nice. But the best part of the Hyatt experience is the excellent staff at the hotel. From the bartenders at U'Malu, to the pool staff, to the people in housekeeping and the front desk, everyone is incredibly warm, friendly and extremely hard working. They will always try to accommodate any reasonable request. (FYI, they can't control the weather).

Upon our arrival and subsequent check-in, we were greeted by an exceptionally cordial staff member at the front desk, which left a positive impression on me. Unfortunately, our experience took a downturn on the evening of February 10th. My family and I were subjected to secondhand smoke in our room for an extended period, lasting at least two hours. Upon contacting the front desk, I was assured that security would investigate the matter for any potential risks. After a considerable wait of at least 30 minutes, I was informed that the source of the smoke was an individual smoking in the lobby beneath our room. As a breastfeeding mother of a 4-month-old and a 21-month-old, I am vehemently opposed to exposing my children to secondhand smoke—a stance reinforced by my academic background in Medical School and a Master’s in Toxicology, where my research focused on the health impacts of secondhand smoke, including its potential to cause high blood pressure in children and contribute to diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's due to lead exposure. I found the front desk staff's lack of empathy and inadequate response to our exposure deeply troubling and unsatisfactory. Despite being upgraded to a suite after escalating the issue through the Globalist line, communication mishaps persisted. For instance, after the upgrade, we were inexplicably barred from accessing the Regency Club with our door pass, a privilege we had enjoyed prior to the move. We were redirected to have our complimentary breakfast at the Swan Court for the remainder of our stay. However, upon checkout, we were unexpectedly charged for the breakfasts that we had been told were complimentary. Additionally, there were discrepancies in the charges for items purchased at the Pool Desk on February 10th. I was overcharged for three swim rings and sun cream, amounting to a total of $97 instead of the expected $59, disregarding any potential discounts and the fact that the same swim rings were available for a significantly lower price at a nearby store. Lastly, we encountered unprofessional behavior from the valet parking staff, as evidenced by a photograph we took. This series of unfortunate events marred our stay, highlighting a need for improved communication, customer service, and sensitivity to health concerns, particularly regarding secondhand smoke exposure.
