I’ve visited Maui for about the 10th time, always staying with family, however with COVID-19 that wasn’t an option so my partner and I decided to stay at Nona Lani Cottages.

The funny thing is, it felt like I was staying with family by the end of it :)

Staying in Nona Lani Cottages was amazing! We stayed in Cottage #5, one of the garden view cottages and it had everything a couple needed for a week of relaxation and exploration. Full kitchen, mirrors, bed, massive shower and bathroom, the lana’i (porch) was awesome for breakfasts, and it’s proximity to the beach is unbeatable. It’s located in the quieter area of Kihei, so at night if you leave your windows open, you can hear the waves crashing on the sand.

I mentioned close proximity to the water, and I mean less than 30 seconds away. All we had to do was cross one street with our boogie boards and hit the waves just like that. And we even saw a turtle up close in the water, and whales off in the distance. And with the location being westward facing, the sunsets are remarkable! Also if you plan to snorkel - some of the best spots in Maui are literally 15 minutes away, which makes getting up in the morning to beat the crowds not too tough at all!

The property itself is not what you expect if you’ve ever stayed on Maui or in Kihei before. Each of the 8 cottages are a good distance from each other, and this privacy is worth every cent. We stayed in another location on this same trip and the noise of neighbors above and next to us was unbearable. The cottages truly give you a place to recharge, find yourself, and relax. There are lounging chairs available to sunbathe on, picnic tables and bbq’s if you’re thinking of cooking some fresh fish outdoors, and beautiful gardens to look at local and native plant life! Also, depending on the season, fresh fruit might be available - our cottage had a banana tree that probably was going to be ripe in 2 weeks. Some other plus sides are the on site laundry facilities, outdoor shower on our cottage was awesome to rinse off the sand from the beach, and parking was right on site.

I would equate staying here to staying at a home away from home. The people at Nona Lani Cottages treat you like family (and it’s family owned and operated for 50 years!), and so don’t hesitate to ask them any questions. I can’t imagine visiting Maui and staying anywhere but here when I’m not staying with my own family, because these people made us feel like family.

Mahalo to Elena, Val, and of course Nona for making us feel at home!

We stayed at Nonalani Cottages for our family staycation and it was truly one to be remembered. The cottages are beautifully updated. It was perfect for our family of 4, two children and 2 adults. It had AC in both the living room and bedroom along with ceiling fans to keep extra cool. The location is perfect! RIGHT ACROSS THE BEACH!!!! Literally a few steps away. We stayed up late at night to fish, watch our poles from our balcony, took the kids swimming during the day and walked back to the cottage for a nap. Sooo easy! Did I mention they also have an outdoor shower to rinse off at on the side of the cottage before you go inside, absolutely so convenient!! Especially with little children. There was also a BBQ grill right around the corner of our cottage, we got to cook some steaks and make s’mores with the kids while sitting under the stars enjoying the cool breeze. We could have not asked for a more better place to spend our getaway! The sunsets were out of this world beautiful and the evenings were just as gorgeous. We will definitely be spending more vacations here, it truly is an oasis for relaxing and enjoying family and the outdoors!

Waking every morning was like opening a present to a beautiful day! Though listed as a garden-view cottage, the ocean and its sunset was beautifully seen from the porch. Ocean waters lapped sand over footprints on the beach just across the street. On our last evening there, a humpback whale and her calf lazed off shore as the sun dipped behind clouds silhouetted on the horizon.
The kitchen met needs for easy meals. Dual heads in the shower was delightful!! The gardens were thoughtfully maintained. Soft, cool grass under bare feet is a thousand times better than a carpeted foyer!
Our cottage also treated us to two original paintings by Nona, the proprietor. The warmth of aloha flowed as effortlessly from these as her handshake and embrace.

I am going to write a really honest review because that is what I like to read. We stayed at these cottages (cottage #5) 11/10/2023 - 11/16/2023. I want to start by saying that Maui was extremely crowded and that is not on the cottages, I thought maybe because of the fire there would be less people but the west side was packed with people. When we arrived the staff was polite and told us about the cottages, when we opened the door I was a bit disappointed as it was not what the pictures appeared. We had a garden view which was quaint and pretty. The cottage was VERY clean and had all the ammentites fridge, stove, etc. However the coffee maker was very small and my husband and I are coffee drinkers, they probably should have a single cup maker in there then you make as much or as little as you like. We even thought of buying one and leaving it behind but I said not at almost $350 a night. There were towels, but I had to call for extra towels and dish towels, the shower is Huge that's a positive, but the toilet was very difficult to flush sometimes you had to flush it 3-5 times to get it to flush, not how I wanted to spend my vacation battling a toilet. The living room was not comfortable at all, there is a futon bed which was very difficult to get comfortable on and no end tables, so we wound up pulling the dinning chairs over as end tables for drinks, snacks, etc. also no lighting except for the overhead fan light. The TV was ok but you only get maybe 2 channels that were not public channels, be prepared to watch every episode of Friends and the news, we did get HGTV so as a Realtor that was nice. There is no TV in the bedroom, now I know you re in Hawaii and why would you want a TV in the bedroom, well my husband and I are older we don't drink and we like to watch the news before we go to sleep, this is a personal preference I know. We were told that there would houskeeping on our 3rd day there was never any housekeeping. The location is across the street from the beach, but is a major street in fact the main st thru Kihei so there is alot of traffic and noise and at night could be dangerous to cross.

All in all I would not stay at this facility again and would never stay in Hawaii without a pool again, but I knew there was no pool so that is on me. If you go into staying here expecting more of an Air BnB feel then you won't be too surprised, I didn't expect a luxurious resort but at that price I did expect the toilet to work and it be comfortable.

Relaxed, friendly, clean bungalows with porch/lanai across the street from busy road and beaches stretching for miles. A comfortable—and relatively affordable (for Maui)—base to start exploring the island. Beautiful, flower-filled grounds. It seems that many return here year after year. My only suggestions are: a better sign to see the driveway if arriving at night; blackout curtains in bedroom (the sun is strong early). Overall, not luxury, but very good Hawaiian-feel accommodation.

We stayed for a week in a suite at Nona Lani Cottages. Absolutely lovely place and staff. The room (and bath) was large and comfortable. The bathroom had been nicely updated and even had soft-close cabinets. The location of the cottages were centrally located on the west side of Maui and accessible to the beach. Highly recommend staying here.

We really enjoyed our stay at Nona Lani Cottages. It is located just north of the Kihei town center, right across the street from the ocean. The accommodations were very comfortable and clean. We stayed in one of the cottages at the front of the property, and had a small deck where we could sit and be serenaded by the ocean waves each evening. We are looking forward to staying there again next time we go to Maui!

We had such a great time at Nona Lani! The second half of our trip was at a resort so for the first portion, I wanted something that was cozy and gave a homey feel. Nona Lani delivered that and so much more! They are clean and comfortable, have beautiful grounds, and the customer service is top notch. I can’t wait to go back!

I love this place! Elena and Aisha were super helpful with making reservations and checking in. It’s run by a family , so a very different vibe than a resort. If you are all about resort , this might not be for you. It’s super chill and quaint with lots of personal touches. It was my birthday and I found a beautiful lei waiting for me in my room. We had a garden cottage - but every place there has an ocean view. The beach is just across the street. Wish we could have stayed longer, and will definitely stay here again when we return to Maui .

We just returned from Kihei, Hawaii and a stay at the Nona Lani Cottage (based on a Frommer's recommendation). Our stay at Nona Lani Cottage was quite disappointing. We did have a cottage right right on Kihei Road but we were told the A/C would block the noise. Not exactly, as the A/C was equally noisy. We shared the cottage with ants and gecko's. After notifying the owners a "fumigator" was sent to fix the ant problem; it was short lived as they were back the next day.
The water faucets were hard to use and it was generally a depressing place to stay. This was our 4th trip to Kihei and we always stayed in condo's before. Our experience was bad and we'd never return to this place.

Do rooms in the main house have private bathrooms?

Yes, each spacious studio has its own private bathroom with walk-in shower. There is also a mini-refrigerator and coffee maker in the room. Please do visit our web site to see some pictures and call our office if you have additional questions. Mahalo!

Thank you for your inquiry. The cottages are larger than the studio suites and could accommodate your children. Unfortunately, all of our cottages are only one bedroom units. Please let me know if we can assist you further. Aloha!

Aloha Shweta & Puneet, Thank you for your interest here at the Nona Lani Cottages. Our cottages can accommodate a family of 4 comfortably (2 adults and 2 children). The bedding in each cottage is a queen size bed, one single and a rollaway. I would recommend 2 or maybe even 3 cottages or 2 cottages and 2 studio suites. We cannot put 5 people in one cottages. I do have the units available for the dates inquiring about. Mahalo, Barbara Kong, Front Office Staff Nona Lani Cottages
